OS LTIMOS
LUGARES
Nesses momentos, quebro regras aventureira! , deixo-me ir, e fotografo. Estes so os ltimos
Lugares.

SPLENDOR IN THE
GRASS: ODE
Goodbye.
Bud: Goodbye.
When he returns to the house, Angelina
senses that Deanie was once Bud's closest
love in his life. As the three girlfriends drive
off, Deanie is asked about the love of her
life:
Hazel: Deanie, honey, do you think
you still love him?
She removes her white hat and looks ahead
to her new future with a wise, unspoken
understanding and acceptance. She has
calmed inner conflicts, disappointments,
and struggles and put herself back together
after the painful shattering of her intense,
first youthful love.
With new awareness, she realizes she has
outgrown the very different, still goodnatured Bud that she once loved and
worshipped. Deanie has put aside youthful
*A Boltzmann brain is a
hypothesized self-aware entity, which
arises due to random fluctuations
out of a state of chaos. The idea is
named for thermodynamicist
Ludwig Boltzmann (1844-1906), who
advanced that the known universe
arose as a random fluctuation,
similar to a process through which
Boltzmann brains might arise and
are often referred to in the context of
the "Boltzmann brain paradox" or
"problem".
The concept arises from the need to
explain why we observe such a large
degree of organization in the
universe.
This leads to the Boltzmann brain
concept: If our current level of
organization, having many selfaware entities, is a result of a
random fluctuation, it is much less
likely than a level of organization
which is only just able to create a
single self-aware entity.2

GATO, O NOVO
FLNEUR
Desenho do Conceito
O fascnio pela observao das mutaes que
ocorrem nos ambientes urbanos e a necessidade
de os registar conduziu-nos, em termos de
pesquisa, obra o pintor da vida moderna, de
Charles Baudelaire.
Na referida obra, deparmo-nos com a
apresentao da figura do flneur. Trata-se dum
burgus, do sculo XIX, que vive momentos de
puro prazer com as observaes do constante
desenhar da cidade moderna. A sua natureza e
esprito curioso transportam-nos para o universo
de novas experincias atravs da sua capacidade
de apreender o mundo. Ele vive do deleite das
imagens efmeras captadas no ambiente
citadino, que focam principalmente os
movimentos sinuosos da multido, onde gosta de
se imiscuir.
Um dos aspectos pertinentes deste personagem
prende-se com uma no procura de explicao
da realidade observada. A sua inteno visa
mostrar a sua viso particular do mundo e a base
da sua captura a experimentao do momento
individual no meio da multido. Desta forma, ele
regista as tenses prprias da ambincia bem
como o caos gerado pela velocidade das
mutaes.
Com base na explorao introdutria da obra
nasce a figura central do projecto a desenvolver,
trata-se da personagem do gato. Cada fruidor da
obra assumir o ngulo de viso do gato.
Gato, o novo flneur a designao do
projecto de vdeo-arte apresentado na instalao.

his daughter, Miranda, and Ferdinand): It is represented as a felix culpa, a fortunate fall, in
which court intrigue becomes reinscribed in the
terms of romance via a shift from the language
of courtiership to that of courtship, to a rhetoric
of love and charity. (p. 60, [2]). Prosperos
mystifying story enables him to see justified his
attitudes towards Miranda. His daughter became
the perfect means to achieve power - she will
marry the son of his enemy - the discourse of
sexuality can be seen in Prosperos capacity of
controlling his territory - Mirandas sexuality.
Both Caliban and Miranda grew on the island,
and to both were given different types of
education. Prospero explains the reason for that,
when he accuses Caliban of trying to rape
Miranda. Sexual division is very common in
colonial discourse. In one hand, Miranda is the
virgin who must be protected from the evil and
rapist native - the attitude of power of the
colonizer is vindicated, and the relationship of
Prospero and Caliban is developed into hatred,
torture and enslavement. On the other hand, the
patriarch Prospero will legitimate is power by
marring his daughter, Miranda, with Ferdinand.
However, Prosperos continuous warnings on the
lovers, accentuate the necessity of controlling
Mirandas sexuality (1):
take my daughter; but
If thou dost break her virgin-knot before
All sanctimonious ceremonies may
With full and holy rite be ministered,
No sweet aspersion shall the heavens let
fall
To make this contract grow;
(IV.i.115)
Ania Loomba says: we must read Calibans
rapacity as set against Sycoraxs licentious black
femininity and the passive purity of Miranda,
whose own desire (. . . ) corroborates the will of
the father; although Miranda can be seen to slip
away from Prospero, the slippage does not erode
fatherly authority. (pp. 144-45, [3]). Prospero
stages ferocity towards Ferdinand, which can
be seen as a fathers hostility towards his usurper
rival, as Ruth Nevo states: (. . . ) throwing
suspicion upon Ferdinand, magically disarming
him of his sword, enslaving him to log-chopping,

show riches

waked
I cried to dream again.
(III.ii.109)
Calibans right to the island comes from the
inheritance of his mother, as himself testifies:
This islands mine, by Sycorax my mother (I.ii.
76). On the contrary, for Prospero, his legitimate
claim to the island comes from his devotion to
books, as Stephan Orgel points out: Power, as
Prospero presents it in the play, is not inherited
but self-created: it is magic, or art, an
extension of mental power and self-knowledge,
and the authority that legitimises it derives from
heaven - Fortune and Destiny are terms used in
the play. (p. 23, [5]). In fact, in England of
1610, these were the ways of conceiving royal
authority. Prosperos work is connected with
white magic, while Sycoraxs power is
associated with black magic. Nevertheless,
although Prospero never admits that Antonio
accused him of witchcraft, his study of old texts,
his practice of magical arts, and his eventual
renunciation of magical power in Act V, Ill
break my stuff, / Bury it certain fathoms in the
earth, /And deeper than did ever plummet
sound/ Ill drown my book, (V.i.126) suggest
that the study of magic was one of the reasons
why he was expelled from Milan and that
Antonios accusation might have been sufficient
to disgrace Prospero. Prospero is constantly
reminding Ariel of his gratitude to the master
(Sycorax imprisoned Ariel in a tree and Prospero
released him). Paradoxically, when the chance is
given to Ariel to speak for himself, he rejects
Prosperos orders, and complains of the work he
has to do, claiming for his freedom. Ironically,
both Prospero and Sycorax are quite alike,
because both kept Ariel as a servant, with the
exception of Prospero using Sycoraxs black
magic as an act of memory. Continually
reminding Ariel of Sycoraxs evilness, Prospero
keeps Ariel subjugated:
I must
Once in a mouth recount what thou hast
been,
Which thou forgetst. This damned witch
Sycorax,
For mischiefs manifold, and sorceries
terrible
To enter human hearing, from Argier,
Thou knowst, was banished. For one
thing she did
They would not take her life. Is not his
true?
(I.ii.73)
Prospero defames Sycoraxs memory and forges
himself as an enlightened magician, becoming
her opposite. In fact, it is by using Sycorax as his
opposite that Prospero affirms his identity, by
renouncing his books at the end of the play.
Caliban is presented by Prospero as being the son
of the devil - Thou poisonous slave, got by the
devil himself (I.ii.75), This thing of darkness I/
Acknowledge mine (V.i.135) and Prosperos
descriptions of Sycorax emphasises her nonEuropean origin - shes from Argier (I.ii.73). It

thee berries.

Ill bear him no more sticks, but follow
