LWN Music Announcement:

The Lincoln-Way North Music Department is proud to welcome Ms.


Aleks Zivanovic as our new Choir Director. Ms. Zivanovics responsibilities
will be teaching the four curricular choirs, heading the madrigal and musical
programs, and continuing to manage and grow the other extra- curricular
ensembles (Gold Rush, Acabellaz, Acafellas). She will also be teaching courses
in Guitar and Individualized Music. We are very excited about her arrival at
LWN and believe that her knowledge, skill and personality will fit perfectly
within the LWN Music culture. We would like to welcome Ms. Zivanovic to
LWN Music with an opportunity for you to meet her on July 2nd from 5:00pm7:00pm in the Choir Room. Come out and welcome her to our department, ask
her questions and get to know the newest staff member of the LWN Music
Department. Please read below for more information on Ms. Zivanovic.
Aleks Zivanovic is a recent graduate from DePaul University in Chicago, IL with a
BM in Music Education. During her time at DePaul, she was actively involved
both in and out of the School of Music. She served as Choral Librarian for 4
years and as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Freshman Representative
of the DePaul Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education
(NAfME). Through her involvement with NAfME, she was fortunate enough to join
the Illinois delegation at NAfMEs annual Hill Day for the past two summers,
where she got to meet with Illinois congressional leaders to advance music
advocacy efforts. It was for her leadership within NAfME Collegiate that she was
awarded the 2014 Collegiate Achievement Award and the 2014 Shannon Kelly
Kane Scholarship.
While at DePaul, she has sung with both University Singers and Concert Choir,
serving as a section leader in the latter ensemble. Ms. Zivanovic was honored to
perform under the direction of Dr. Clayton Parr, Dr. Steven Grives, Mr. Michael
Lewanski, and Dr. Cliff Colnot. She was also selected as the only undergraduate to participate in a conducting
masterclass with Dr. Craig Arnold, director of the Manhattan Chorale from New York City. Ms. Zivanovic comes
from the private voice studio of renowned soprano, Elizabeth Byrne, and gave her first solo voice recital last June,
performing the works of Handel, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Rossini, and other master composers.
She was also a member of DePaul A Cappella and traveled with the ensemble to Wales, UK where she took

home 3 Place in the Folk Solo Category at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. She has also served
on the planning committee of SingStrong Chicago, an annual a cappella festival benefitting Alzheimers research,
and volunteered as a counselor at Showchoir Camps of America for two summers.
Outside of music, Ms. Zivanovic served as the Vice President of Finance for the Panhellenic Council and Director
of Fundraising for Delta Gamma Fraternity. She is also a graduate of the DePaul Honors Program, through which
she presented her thesis, Romantic Nationalism in the Art Songs of Selected Slavic Composers at the first
Honors Research Conference at DePaul in May 2014.
This past school year, Ms. Zivanovic was a maternity sub at Warren Township High School in the fall and Niles
West High School in the spring. At Warren, she taught 4 curricular choirs, AP Music Theory, and directed the
extracurricular show choir. At Niles West, she also taught 4 curricular choirs, Music Appreciation, directed an
extracurricular Gospel Choir, and directed an extracurricular mens a cappella group. She conducted 3 concerts,
accompanied Warrens show choir during their holiday community tour, and took all three a cappella groups at
Niles West to compete in the International Championship of High School A Cappella quarterfinal in DeKalb, IL.
In her spare time, Ms. Zivanovic enjoys knitting, Netflix, and fitness. She is very excited for the upcoming school
year and to meet all of the students, parents, and faculty at Lincoln-Way North!
