Personal Notes: Organic Pesticides Using Household Ingredients

Pesticide Bases
Soap Mix with herbs and spray. Use organic bar or dish soap. Affects aphids, whiteflies, scale,
thrips and spider mites. Spray, leave for several hours, wash off. Do not use in sun and on plants
with hairy or waxy leaves ie. Squash.
Oil - sap-sucking insects like aphids, thrips, spider mites and whiteflies
Mineral oil - dehydrate insects
Alcohol
Salt - spider mites
Tobacco - kills pests caterpillars and aphids. Do not use solanceous family plants ie.
tomatoes,peppers and eggplants
Herbs:
Garlic
Onions
Chilli - leafhoppers, spittlebugs, beetles and loopers
Orange/Citrus - ants and other insects
Eucalyptus - flies, bees, wasps
Neem - very powerful, 5 natural insecticides
Spearmint
Saponins - Soap nuts
Chrysanthemum flower tea - pyrethrum invades nervous system of insects and renders them
immobile (works with neem oil also)
Spearmint works against chewing insects
Rhubarb leaves - boil, strain and use agaist aphids, etc.
Talcum powder - flea beetles and corn ear worm
