INTRODUCTION:
The course intends to assist learners in acquiring and developing the following learning and
experiences as a counselor, a client, a group member and group leader. Students will carry
out a case study in individual counseling to indentify and analyse clients problems. A
written report of case study will be presented in the class attended and evaluated by a
qualified counselor and lecturer. At the end of the course students have to present their log
books as a documentation and reflection of their laboratory works and experiences.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the course is to assist students to:
1. communicate using counselling skills and apply them in a counselling process,
2. conduct individual and group counselling,
3. apply counselling theories in a counselling session, and
4. practice leadership, social skills and team spirit.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, students are able to:

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY


Students are required to abide by the universitys Academic Regulation pertaining to all
matters during their course of study. Learners are advised to take note that class attendance
is very important. Learners who do not meet the attendance requirement will be barred from
sitting for the final examination.

You are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the course to obtain a grade:

Assignment 1 (Lab Assignments) (35%)


Students have to conduct a series of laboratory assignments, which requires you
(i) Undergo a counselling session as a client with a qualified counsellor and
write a report.
(ii) Recorded individual counselling session with verbatim and report

Assignment 2 (Counselling Camp) (10%)


Students are also requested to organize and conduct a counselling camp either in the
University compound or outside, for 1 day or more, which entails skills and techniques of
counselling, and put them into workshop modules.

Final Examination (50%)


Final examination coverage will be announced by course leader. Students may refer to
the test plan posted UNIEC for coverage. Students who are unable to sit for the exam on
the stipulated date must produce necessary document(s) to enable themselves to sit for
special exam. All arrangements must be made through the Exam Unit.
