Welcome to the Agilent E6474A Network Optimization Platform - a scalable,

integrated, air interface measurement system. Using the comprehensive
documentation provided with your system, combined with powerful software
features, you will soon be getting the results you need.

Set up a dial-up connection.

Using the Windows Control Panel, setup and configure a

network and dial-up connection:
Phone manufacturer or wireless service provider's
documentation.

Test the connection (before using the E6474A software):

1. Connect the hardware using guidelines from the vendor(s).
2. Browse to any public web site using your new dial-up instance.
If you can view a web site, you've confirmed that you can make
web and FTP data measurements. If you experience difficulties
while making data measurements using the E6474A software,
refer to the Server Installation Guide, Chapter 2, Troubleshooting
and Support, or the FAQs in the online help.

Make data tests.

Using the Agilent E6474A software, add a data device and set up a
data test sequence:
E6474A Software > Help > Tutorial > Topic Menu > Data Call

To open the tutorial, start the E6474A software and click Help > Tutorial.
E6474A Quick Basics shows you:
Key features and benefits
The E6474A workflow
Basic procedures illustrated with animated simulations. Click the
Show Me button at the end of each procedure to see the simulation.

To open the help, start the E6474A software and click Help > Help Topics,
or press F1, or click a help button.
The software includes context-sensitive, HTML-based online help. In the
help, you'll find all the information you need to make measurements with
the Agilent E6474A software, including procedures, measurement
parameters, and tips. The help opens in a browser window, separate from
the E6474A application window.
To open the Library, start the E6474A software and click Help > Library.
This web-based list gives you access to all the documentation supplied
with your system.
The Library contains:
User's Guide, Getting Started Poster, Release Notes (PDF format)
Various technology-specific reference guides (PDF format)
Step-by-step guides on how to setup a data phone
Installation instructions for Acrobat PDF Reader

Get ready.
Make sure that you have everything you need to get
started. See Chapter 1 in the Agilent E6474A User's
Guide for details.

Install the software.

a. Install the Agilent E6474A software, and
attach the parallel license
key.
b. To use the USB
key, you must
transfer
licenses
from the
parallel key using
the License Manager.
See Chapter 2 in the User's Guide for details.

Or
Connect the phone
using the Agilent
E6473B direct
connect hub. Connect
the hub to the
laptop's USB port.
b. Attach the receiver(s) and/or scanner.
Connect the
receiver directly
to the laptop's
serial port.
Or
Connect the
receiver(s) to the
E6473B direct
connect hub.
Or

Set up your system.

After attaching a device such as a PCMCIA card USB
phone, you may be asked to install software drivers.

Connect the
scanner to the
E6473B direct
connect hub.

Refer to Chapter 2 in the User's Guide for details.

c. (In-Vehicle) Attach the GPS antenna and receiver.
a. Attach the phones.

For phones and/or

scanners, connect the GPS
receiver directly to the
laptop's USB port.

Connect the phone

to the serial port.
Or
Connect the phone
using a PC card
(PCMCIA).
Or
Connect the phone
using a generic USB
hub.

d. Verify the receiver and phone.

See Chapter 3 in the User's Guide for details.

Or
For receivers and/or scanners with internal
GPS, attach the GPS antenna.

Check the
battery, and
load the
backpack.

If you are getting unexpected

measurements, see Chapter 4 in the
User's Guide for verification tests.

This document is supplied with E6473B systems.

e. Set up a system plan, and begin

taking measurements.

Use your system.

a. Turn on the power.
The E6473B direct connect hub power
switch has three settings: left is on, center
is off, and right turns the unit power on
and off via the vehicle's ignition switch.
See Chapter 4 in the User's Guide for
instructions for powering on the GPS
navigator and some phones.

i. Open the View menu.

ii. Select the measurement
views you want.
iii. Save the system plan.
See Chapter 4 in the User's Guide for details.

b. Start the software.

i. Click Start>Programs >
Agilent Wireless Solutions >
E6474A > E6474A.
ii. Select File>New.

a. Run the Quick Basics tutorial.

i. Click Start > Programs > Agilent Wireless
Solutions > E6474A > Reference > Tutorial.
ii. Run through the topics to learn the basics.
b. Use help.
Click Start > Programs > Agilent Wireless
Solutions > E6474A > Help > E6474A Help.
Or, With the software running, click
Help>Help topics.
Or, From within any dialog box, press F1 or click
the help button for help about what you're
doing right then.

c. Identify all the hardware.

i. Right-click a COM port
icon that has a device
attached, then select
Refresh Port.
ii. Right-click a device,
select Properties (for
phones only), and configure
the device.
iii. For data testing, right-click a data
device and select Properties, then configure
the data call.
For details on "How To Set Up A Data
Connection," refer to the other side of this poster.
iv. Repeat for each COM port that has a device
attached.
