Purpose:
The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of Oracle Data Integrator 11g
Architecture, Installation process and integration process between Oracle Business
Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). The presentation
also includes different products like Security Navigator, Topology Navigator and their
usage in Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition. Creation of master and work
repository will also be discussed.
Introduction:
Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition 11g is a latest release from Oracle Data
Integrator. It delivers high-performance data movement and transformation among
enterprise platforms with its E-LT architecture. With Extract Load and Transform (E-LT)
technology ODI process improves performance, reduces data integration costs across
various systems. This approach eliminates the need of the exclusive Transformation
Server between the Source and Target Data server.
Data Connectivity:
Oracle Data Integrator supports all RDBMSs including all leading Data Warehousing
platforms such as Oracle, Teradata, IBM DB2, Netezza, Sybase IQ and numerous other
technologies such as flat files, ERPs, LDAP, XML.
Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition is a comprehensive suite of
enterprise BI products that delivers a full range of analysis and reporting capabilities. BI
infrastructure Integrates with any data source, extraction, transformation and load
(ETL) tool, application server, portal technology, other front-end and analytical tools,
and databases. It also includes a full range of easy-to-use and end-user tools such as
Interactive Dashboards, advanced reporting and publishing, full ad-hoc analysis over
the Web and alerts, mobile analytics.

ODI Repository:
In ODI the Repository is a comprehensive and shared metadata repository. The
Repository is a combination of a master repository and several work repositories. In 11g
Administrators and developers use the Oracle Data Integrator Studio to access the
repositories.

Master Repository:
I.

Usually only one master repository that stores the information on the topology
including server defineations, schemas, contexts and languages etc.

II.

Security information including users, profiles and rights for ODI platform.

Work Repository:
I.

This will stores the information about data models, projects, business rules,
packages, procedures, variables etc.

II.

Scenario execution, scenarios, scheduling information and logs

Topology Navigator:
Topology Navigator is used to manage the data that will describe the information
system's physical and logical architecture. Topology Navigator is used to manage the
topology of information system, the technologies and their data types.
The site, machine, and data server descriptions will enable Oracle Data Integrator to
execute the same interfaces in different environments.

Business Challenges:
The Biggest challenge integrating with OBIEE, is in choosing how the interfaces between
EBS layer and the OBIEE layer are scheduled to run and the efficiency in minimizing the
data losses. On a daily basis, data from the EBS is consolidated and summarized in the
ODI Layer before being brought into the OBIEE for analytic reporting. The flow in Fig 2
illustrates the integration between the EBS and the OBIEE using ODI layer as a conduit.
