The programme is targeted at students who want to work in a financial institution (for instance
as a banker), or as a regulator in the financial services industry.
Financial markets play a key role in the current and future (financial) stability of firms,
consumers, government bodies and states. In addition, financial institutions and specifically
banks- are major parties in the efficient functioning of these markets. The master programme
Banking and Finance recognizes that financial markets do not function well unless they are
supervised effectively. Without effective internal and external (risk) management, (financial)
performance will be below standards in banks and other financial institutions (including
insurance companies and pension funds).
The master programme Banking and Finance focuses on international financial markets, the
function and behavior of banks and bankers, the regulatory institutions that govern banks and
other financial institutions worldwide, the effectiveness of regulation, and the banks strategic
decisions on allocation, funding and investment.
Key themes: Money markets, financial markets, and institutions; Asset pricing; Financial
regulation; International banking; Investment management.

Professional orientation: Employee at a financial institution (banks, e.g. ABN Amro, Rabobank;
insurance firms and pension funds, for instance Delta Lloyd, PGGM), regulator in the financial
services industry (Central Banks, such as DNB and ECB; financial market regulators such as BaFin
and AFM).

Financial Management
The programme is targeted at students who want to obtain a financial management position in
a large organization.
Financial management refers to the efficient and effective management of (financial) assets and
liabilities of the organization in order to achieve the organizational objectives.
The master programme Financial Management focuses on important questions such as how to
raise capital (i.e., issuing shares and bonds), how to allocate capital (capital budgeting,
operational budgeting), how to allocate the short-term resources like current assets (working
capital management), and how to deal with dividend policies. In addition, it provides insights in
the tools to align individual motives to organizational objectives (performance management,
compensation systems).
Key themes: Multinational corporate finance; Financial statement analysis; Management control
systems; Mergers & Acquisitions; Financial management
Professional orientation: Financial management trainee in a large organization, (assistant)
controller, (junior) consultant financial management, (in due time) financial manager.

International Management
The programme is targeted at students with an interest in working globally in a managerial
position.
Management challenges are increasingly relevant in the context of both existing as well as
emerging markets. Furthermore, in the turbulent global political and financial environment,
multinational firms have to be nimble adaptors to changing international conditions and shifts in
the policy environment.
Starting with a strong base of managerial economics and research skills, the master programme
International Management specializes in managerial issues that challenge professionals, such as
international mergers and acquisitions, the financing of multinational organizations, foreign
market entry strategies, and subsidiary management and diversity.

Cross Cultural Management Skills.

Professional Orientation: Working in a global corporate environment dealing with issues such as
global marketing and finance, supply chain management, cross cultural management, and
foreign market entry strategies.

Business Development and Entrepreneurship.
The programme is targeted at students with an interest in new business development.
In the globalized digital economy routine tasks become automated and the need for human
creativity will increase: creativity and entrepreneurship to start new business and to develop
new markets. In such an environment, capturing value from innovation, product and service
development, and modern marketing techniques are important capabilities for the young
professional.
The master programme Business Development and Entrepreneurship provides the analytical
tools and it gives the skills for new business development in the mature corporate context as
well as the fast growing young firms. The programme provides both the scientific knowledge
and practical skills to enable the identification and exploitation of new opportunities. The focus
is on the product and service development as well as entrepreneurial marketing that uses cocreation with customers and design thinking. In addition, there is strong emphasis on obtaining
and managing venture capital.

Professional Orientation: New business development in developed corporate organizations, fast
growing firms, as well in public-private partnerships. A strong professional focus on business
analytics, project management, design thinking, innovation and value capture, and customer
development.

faculties), and the small-scale education.

Economic Policy
The programme is targeted at students who are interested in professional policy analysis.
It deals with complex societal issues, with a focus on the role of government policies, ranging
from the organization of care, the provision of social insurance to policies of sustainable growth.
It is necessary apply modern economics with a deep understanding of economic growth and
development, labor market structures, the future of education and health care, energy
transition and inequality.
The master programme Economic Policy develops the skills and expertise required for
professional policy analysis, such as a strong thematic knowledge and a sound empirical toolkit
to investigate the effectiveness of policy interventions. In addition, the modern policy maker

needs to have superior communication and management skills in order to manage the interest
of the different stakeholders.
