SAFE WORK PROCEDURES

BACKPACK SPRAYER
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Persons must not use a backpack sprayer to apply chemicals unless they have been trained in the safe handling and use of the sprayer and the chemicals.
2.
Refer to SWP25 Chemicals Agricultural and Veterinary for safe procedures for the storage, handling and use of herbicides and pesticides.
3.
A current MSDS must be available for all chemicals in areas where the chemicals are used, handled or stored.

Key processes to be followed


Always refer to manufacturers MSDS for protective clothing and equipment
recommendations and handling precautions.
Rinse tank, and flush pump, hose and nozzle assembly after use or when using a
different chemical or application.
Avoid bending and twisting when donning sprayer place on bench or similar, or
obtain assistance to reduce need to lift filled sprayer.
Set up sprayer with lance held in dominant hand, and pump lever in other hand.
Check operation of spray wand trigger, and check all connections for leaks.
Ensure that battery is fully charged before using sprayer.
Ensure that battery is correctly fitted and secured in place in holder
Only use motorised sprayers in outdoor or well-ventilated conditions.
Allow motor to cool before refuelling in well-ventilated area away.
Ensure that appropriate eye and respiratory protection is selected and used when
using misters to apply chemicals in mist or dust forms.
Monitor atmosphere in enclosed areas or confined spaces to ensure that STEL for
the chemical used is not exceeded during mist or dust application.

Wear eye protection or goggles, face
mask or respirator, liquid-proof
gloves, and apron or overalls and
boots when spraying chemicals.
Adjust carrying straps and belt before
filling tank, adjust straps after filling.
Ensure that filler cap is correctly fitted
after refilling tank.
Only use supplied charger to recharge
batteries avoid overcharging.
Avoid spillage when refuelling.
Do not start motor while wearing pack.
High-efficiency air purifying or
supplied-air respirators must be used
in enclosed areas or confined spaces.
