SAFE WORK PROCEDURES

GUILLOTINE (METAL)
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
Trained personnel only are to use machine tools such as guillotines, etc.
2.
Ensure that machine is suitable for the task, and where machines are allocated to perform certain tasks, that the correct machine is selected.

Key processes to be followed


Machines should be fitted with safety features such as presence sensors, and
must be fitted with mechanical guards.
Access to rear of guillotines should be interlocked or photo-electrically
guarded to prevent access to the rear of the machine when operating.
Aisles, passageways, etc, at rear of guillotines must be securely fenced to
protect passers-by from injury from cutting process and off-cuts.
Thicker metal sections will create harmful noise levels when cut pieces fall.
De-energise machine before commencing any set up or adjustments.
Do not allow any person to remain in rear of machine when operating.
Keep rear of machine as clear as possible of off-cuts and waste material.
Exercise care when working in restricted space.
Obtain assistance or use mechanical aids to move large or heavy items.
Ensure that work material is adequately supported on table and secured.
Keep hands well clear of blade and clamp when cutting material.
Shut down machine before accessing rear of machine to remove cur
material, or lock out to prevent accidental operation.
Isolate and lockout power supply before commencing work on machine.
Lubricate with recommended lubricants at specified intervals.
Use timber packing to prevent blades from falling when bolts are removed.
Obtain assistance to lift larger blades out of and into mounts.
Ensure that bolts are tightened to correct torque, and recheck blade for
straightness, and ensure that correct clearances are provided over full length.
Check hydraulic system regularly, top up oil if required, and check for leaks

Provide interlocked fence-type
guard at rear of guillotines.
Wear hearing protection in area.
Keep clear of machinery in
operation.
Type 1 footwear must be worn.
Wear leather gloves.
Adopt correct handling practices.

Wear eye protection.
Wear leather gloves when
handling rough or sharp objects.
De-energise machine before
carrying out any maintenance
work.
Type 1 footwear must be worn.
Wear cut-resistant gloves.
Adopt correct manual handling
practices.

indicated should be displayed in areas
where these procedures are carried out.
