Objectives:
The objective of this lab assignment is to expose the students to perform lab experiments in lab
and perform simulations using MATLAB and Simulink. In this lab assignment you are to
perform 4 lab experiments. The complete information on these experiments is given in the
Digital Communications Lab Manual. You may download the manual from the webspace or
collect from me personally. There are five experiments in the lab manual. However, the first lab
experiment is the familiarization with MATLAB and Simulink. The experiment 2, 3 and 4 are
MATLAB based whereas the experiment 5 is Simulink based.

Upon completing each

experiment, you are required to answer questions given at the end of each experiment.
Complete all the four lab experiments. Submit your lab report separately after two weeks of the
experiment conducted. In each of the lab report, you should:
1. Exhibit a professional behavior while performing the lab work and compiling the lab
report.
2. Demonstrate the report writing skill by producing an appropriate level of report format.
3. Demonstrate the relevant theoretical/analytical knowledge.
4. Perform the experiments by running the MATLAB scripts and designing the simulink
models.
5. Observe and capture the plots/results and present them in a suitable format.
6. Analyse/Discuss the plots/results.
7. Conclude your findings.
8. Solve/Analyse post-lab questions given at the end of each experiment.

Appendix B
Instructions to Students about Discussion, Conclusion and Reference
Discussion
In the Discussion section you should give an overall appraisal of the results of your work.
It is here that you will have the best opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the
work and to give a critical account of what has been achieved.
Conclusion
The Conclusion is a short summary of the results of your work (about 200 words). The
Conclusion should follow naturally from the Discussion. It should give a concise
statement of what has been achieved. Anticipated application of techniques developed
should be summarized very briefly. The Conclusion should be self-contained, i.e., it
should not make reference to any sections, figures, or references in the report.
References
All references to books, papers, and other publications must be fully and correctly quoted
to be useful to the reader.
Citation Example
In the text
The analysis of the varactor diode multiplier has been extensively reviewed by Scanlan
(1989) and will.
