Those completion of the training for this subject the
students will thereby be enabled to determine
the ships position by use of land marks, aids to
navigation and dead reckoning, taking into
account wind, tides current and estimated
speed.

: After completion of the training for this subject, the


students will be able :
To select the most appropriate primary method of
fixing the ships position according to the prevailing
circumstances and conditions.
To calculate and determine the position accurate
and within the limits of acceptable instrument /
system errors.
To check the reliability of the information obtained
from method of position fixing at appropriate
intervals.
To select relevant information from navigational
charts and publications and to interpret these
correctly.
To identify accurately all potential navigational
hazards.
To identify and prepare that the charts selected are
the largest scale suitable for the area of navigation
and charts and publications are corrected in
accordance with the latest information available.
