Course Description
This course provides students with opportunities to think critically about theories,
questions, and issues related to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology. Students
will develop an understanding of the approaches and research methods used by
social scientists. They will be given opportunities to explore theories from a variety
of perspectives, to conduct social science research, and to become familiar with
current thinking on a range of issues within the three disciplines.
Assessment and Evaluations
To promote student success, ongoing formative assessment and feedback will
be given to students. As required by the Ministry of Education, students will be
assessed in the four areas of the achievement chart. The chart below provides
percentages for each category. All evaluations are expected on the due date.
Submission after the due date may result in a mark of zero. If you require an

* Anticipated due dates. Check the home page section of the course for
updated dates. Please note that the due dates set by the teacher are final
and need to be met, if you have an exception please speak to your teacher
in advance.
Attendance
Please note that discussions and attendance are integral parts of the
communication strand, so please ensure that you attend classes (Adobe Connect
sessions) and participate fully in the discussions. Discussion posts made after the
deadline will not be given credit.
Accommodations/Modifications
Teachers will use assessment and evaluation strategies which include
accommodations and/or modifications to meet the needs of ELL Learners and
exceptional students as outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). If you
require any accommodations please inform your teacher at the beginning of the
course so they can make the necessary accommodations.
Class work/Homework/Adobe Connect
Assignments, discussions and quizzes should be done on the due dates provided by
the teacher and should be submitted by the deadlines provided. If you are unable to
meet the deadline please inform your teacher beforehand so accommodations can
be made. Students need to be present in all scheduled Adobe Connect sessions.
Sessions will be reserved for teaching course content and/or for answering
questions and concerns about assignments and upcoming deadlines.
The Evaluation of Late and Missed Assignments
Students are responsible for completing and submitting work for evaluation on time.
They are responsible for being aware of each due date which is the ultimate
deadline to submit an assignment for evaluation. Due to the short time frames
allotted for summer school deadlines need to be met. If a student is aware that they
will miss a scheduled assignment/quiz they must advise the teacher ahead of time
and an alternate arrangement will be made between the student and teacher.
Professional judgment will be used by the teacher in determining the evaluation of
missed quizzes and assignments.
Culminating assignments must be completed and are due on the due date.
Students must write the exam in courses where exams are scheduled. Both of the
culminating tasks must be completed in order for the student to have the
opportunity to demonstrate their learning and achievement in the course.
Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism
Students must understand that the assignments they submit must be their own
work and that cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any assignments or
work that requires a bibliography needs to be submitted along with the assignment,
in proper APA format or a mark of zero may be issued to the student.
