The basic components of the BTS3900A are described as follows:

l

The BBU3900 is used for baseband processing and enables interaction between the BTS
and the BSC.

The RFU performs modulation and demodulation between baseband signals and RF
signals, data processing, and combining and division of signals. The Double Radio Filter
Unit (DRFU) processes two carriers, and the GSM Radio Filter Unit (GRFU) processes
multi-carriers.

The power cabinet and RF cabinet house the BBU3900 and RFUs. In addition, the cabinets
perform the functions such as power distribution, heat dissipation, and surge protection.
The APM30H is mainly used in an outdoor environment with adverse air conditions.

OFF

Mains overvoltage or undervoltage alarm

Busbar overvoltage or undervoltage alarm

No alarm is reported.

NOTE

In 3s to 5s after the PMU is powered on, the ALM and RUN LEDs are simultaneously ON for about 3s.

Figure 5-29 DRFU panel

Function
The DRFU handles modulation and demodulation between baseband signals and RF signals,
data processing, and combining-distribution.
The DRFU performs the following functions:

5-42

It modulates baseband signals to GSM RF signals by using direct frequency conversion in

the transmit channel. After amplifying or combining the RF signals, the DRFU sends the
signals to the antenna for transmission.

It receives RF signals from the antenna and down-converts the RF signals to IF signals.
After amplifying, analog-to-digital converting, digital down-converting, matched filtering,
and performing Automatic Gain Control (AGC), the DRFU sends the signals to the BBU
for further processing.

It performs power control.

Functions
The core of the heat exchanger extends the area for the exchange of the air inside and outside
the APM30H, speeding up the air circulation and effectively decreasing the working temperature
of the cabinet. In addition, the core of the heat exchanger protects the cabinet from the dust.

5.9 Heater
When the working temperature of the APM30H or TMC11H is below -20, the heater should
be configured. The working temperature for configuring the heater refers to the local average
lowest temperature of each day in the coldest month of the year.

Appearance
Figure 5-45 shows the heater.
