in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

1. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to position engine (28) onto the machine. The
weight of engine (28) is approximately 862 kg (1900 lb).

3. Apply Tooling (C) to bolts (29). Install bolts (29) and tighten bolts (29) to a torque of 70
15 Nm (52 11 lb ft).
4. Remove Tooling (B) from the engine.

Start By:

A. Remove the cooling system package. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cooling System
Package (Radiator, Fan, Aftercooler, Oil Cooler) - Remove".
B. Remove the hydraulic tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Tank Remove".
C. Remove the muffler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Muffler - Remove and Install".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during

performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

20. Fasten Tooling (A) to torque converter (24), as shown. Tooling (A) will be used to support
torque converter (24), the transmission, and the output transfer gears when the engine is
being removed. The weight of torque converter (24), the transmission, and the output
transfer gears is approximately 816 kg (1800 lb).
