A wholly owned subsidiary, Benguetcorp Nickel lvlines, lnc. (BNN/l) has received
today, July 'l , 2015, from the l\,4ines and Geoscience Bureau (MGB) Region 3 an
Order dated June 23,2015, suspending the ore hauling activities of BNIVII aswell
as of other nickel mining companies in Sta. Cruz, Zambales. The Order is limited
to ore tnsport from the minesite to the port only, and does not affect other
aspects of its mining operations. The receipt of the Order comes at a time when
BNN/ll has slowed down its mining operation due to start of the rainy season and
when no shipment revenues are expected. The N/lGB has earlier set conditions for
the ,ifting of the suspension and BNN/ll has been continuously complying with the
conditions, some of which lnvolve activities that take longer period to complete
and where the Local Government Unit (LGU) and other government agencies
(i.e., Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Regional lnvestigatlon
and Assessment Team (RIAT), etc.) are participatory, over which BNMI has no
control. lt is expected that the suspension will be lifted by the l\,4G8 as soon as the
update of BNI\,41's compliance to the conditions, submitted on July 1 , 2015, has
been validated. ln the meantime, BNMI will be implementing care and
maintenance works in the mine site and preparing for the next mining season
which will start in October, and by which time, ihe suspension will have been
lifted.
