Sensenbrenner reacts
to court ruling on ACA
While a recent Supreme Court ruling left a key provision of the
Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) in place, the debate over the law is
far from finished, Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner indicated June 29.
In the King v. Burwell ruling issued June 25, the court dismissed a
challenge to the law, upholding tax credits to people in states which
did not set up health care exchanges.
"What it does is it makes an election issue next time and if there's
a Republican president and two Republican houses we will repeal
and replace it," Sensenbrenner said of the court ruling. "That will be
worked on, but we're not going to say what the replacement will be
because we'll get picked apart by the other side."
Sensenbrenner spoke on the court ruling while holding office
hours at the Sussex Village Hall.
Sensenbrenner said that should the ACA be repealed by a
Republican president and Congress, the replacement would continue
a ban that would prohibit insurance companies from denying insurance based on pre-existing conditions.
"We're not going to accept it," Sensenbrenner said of the ACA. "It
has increased healthcare costs. A lot of the people who were on
Obamacare were on Medicaid, so this is a shift from Medicaid to
Obamacare. A lot of the things that will really cause economic problems will not really kick in until this year or next year, such as the individual and employer mandates for coverage and then the so-called
'Cadillac tax' kicks in for people who have very good insurance packages, a lot of which have been negotiated as part of labor-management negotiations."
Sensenbrenner added that even with the "bronze" level insurance
packages under the ACA, there are poor people who can't afford
deductibles of as much as $5,000 in addition to the premiums.
"This is simply unaffordable and they call it the Affordable Health
Care act -- and that's not the case," Sensenbrenner said.

Dear Dr. Winter, I need implants in my upper and lower

arches. I have had several consultations and opinions all over
the board! Some of the consults said I only needed 4 implants
for the upper and 4 for the lower and others have said I need
just two for the lower. I did tell them I wanted to be able to
have teeth that didnt come out and I dont have a lot of bone
in either arch. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Jack J.
Dear Jack, there are several good questions here. I will try
and break them down and I encourage you and the readers to
read my articles on Upgradeable Dentistry and Advanced
Treatment
Planning
under
publications
at:
www.hamptondentalassociates.com where I have written
articles about these very questions. I also outline in various
publications the differences between removable overdentures
and fixed implant bridges and show examples of each type of
implant treatment.
First of all, without a consultation and x-rays I cannot
comment on your specific situation. The number of implants
you require is dependent upon the quality and quantity of
your remaining bone, your budget and the type of prosthesis
you require. Whether the implant restoration should be
fixed or non-removable by the patient or whether it is
acceptable to remove the implant supported denture and take
it out at night is a personal decision and both have advantages
and disadvantages. Most people that lose their teeth want
fixed teeth. In addition, the patients health, medication(s)
and anatomy all play a role in deciding upon the ideal implant
restoration. It is important to note that sometimes we can start
with a removable implant denture due to budgetary
constraints and add implants over a year or two and Upgrade
to a fixed restoration or bridge when finances allow!
Next, we can discuss the number of required implants. In
the upper arch most people have already been wearing a
denture or partial and they have already undergone bone loss.
As bone is lost in the upper jaw the sinuses expand and in
order to place implants in this area there is a need to grow
the bone by doing a sinus grafting procedure and possibly a
block grafting procedure. This sinus augmentation is a
procedure that will allow implants of normal length to be
placed in the posterior upper jaw. A way to bypass this is a
zygomatic or long implant that is used in an all-on-four
procedure. This procedure will place 4 implants at angles that
are used to support a full arch of denture teeth or a hybrid
prosthesis. This may be a predictable procedure but replacing
14 teeth (24 roots) with 4 implants doesnt provide as large a
margin of safety as using 7-9 implants per arch. This is a
matter of philosophy and the treating implant dentist and
surgeon will be able to explain their philosophy based upon

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

their education, skill and judgment.
As far as the two-implant option given to you for your
lower arch, this is strictly to support a lower overdenture,
which is removable. In order to have a fixed restoration
(non-removable) you would require a minimum of 6
maxillary and 5 mandibular implants in my practice. That
being said if you are able to place more implants and overengineer the situation you are always better off, as these
extra implants will redistribute chewing forces over 6-9
implants, instead of just four.
We offer complimentary implant consultations or
comprehensive examination and x-ray visits to our readers.
Please call us at 414-464-9021 to schedule your visit! We
look forward to meeting you. You may see examples of our
dentistry at www.winterdental.com
We would like to also congratulate Dr.Rick on his ABOI
award that he received last weekend at the AAID American
Academy of Implant Dentistry Meeting in Orlando.
If you wish to read about this honor go to:

Falls district reviewing proposal for changes in honors system

A Menomonee Falls School Board committee is reviewing a request to go to a "cum
laude" system of honors for high school seniors.
The item was mentioned during the June
22 School Board meeting. During the
Curriculum and Learning Committee report,
board member David Noshay said high
school principal Cory Golla brought a recommendation to go to the "cum laude" system, which would recognize seniors for rigor
and success in academics.

Noshay said there would be three levels

of award: Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum
Laude and Cum Laude. To be considered for
a laude award, a student would have to
have a cumulative grade point average of
3.0 or higher. Noshay said the score would
be determined by multiplying the students
cumulative grade point average and the
number of college level courses completed.
Noshay said the recommendation was
under evaluation by the committee, with the
committee requesting additional information

Richfield Rockets U11 Red Wins Pewaukee

Jr. Pirate Baseball Tournament

from Golla.
In other matters from the committee,
Noshay said a new core set of social studies
standards were presented to the committee.
Noshay said the proposed standards would
replace the Model Academic Standards
that have been in place in 1999.
Noshay said the committee approved
an textbook for an Advanced Placement science course.

He also stated that a high school team

of teachers from multiple subject areas
along with parents and students will examine the high school schedule. Noshay
added that the analysis is done every few
years "to see if theres any better way of
improving our students outcomes."

Commission to review requests

for self-storage facilities
The Menomonee Falls Plan Commission
will get a look at two requests for self-storage facilities in the village at its July 7 meeting.
Among the items on the agenda are:
A proposal from David Hotchkiss and
Michael Jones to operate a self-storage
facility known as The Vault on the northeast
corner of Pilgrim Road and Shawn Circle.
According to the village staff report,
plans have been submitted for a 53,000
square foot climate controlled self storage
building and an adjacent 51,400 non-climate controlled storage building. An industrial use approval from the commission is
required for the project to move ahead.
A request from Busy Guys, LLC to
operate Falls Self Storage at N92 W15800
Megal Drive. According to the staff report,
the building was recently occupied by GKN
Sintered Metals, which relocated its operations at that site to a building on Leon Road.
An industrial use request would needed
for the proposal to move forward.
The board will also consider a request

that would allow for the construction of the

corporate headquarters of the Great Lakes
Roofing Corporation at the northwest corner of Stratton Circle and Old Orchard
Road. Plans have been submitted by The
Consortium ae LLC to construct a 13,278
square foot building at the site. According
to the staff report, the building would
accommodate 13 corporate and business
staff, along with 30 field employees. An
industrial use permit would have to be
granted for the project to move forward.
The agenda also includes a request
from Christine Pawlak that would allow for
outdoor seating for Sports Pub & Grill at
N80 W13003 Fond du Lac Ave. A conditional use permit would be needed for the
project to move forward.
The Menomonee Falls Plan Commission
will begin at 6:30 p.m. July 7 at the
Menomonee Falls Village Hall, W156
N8440 Pilgrim Rd.

Refreshing reinventions
BY TRESA ERICKSON
It is not uncommon for homes built in the
1970s to have paneled walls. Paneling was
quite popular then, but not so much anymore.
If you have paneling in your home, do not
despair. You can reinvent it with a little elbow
grease. Here are some ideas.
Paint is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to reinvent wood paneling. You
can go with any color you want, and depending upon the look you are after, you can fill
the grooves or leave them unfilled. If you are
looking to create stripes, for example, you
might want to leave the grooves as are and
use them as a guide to mark off the stripes.
After a light sanding and cleaning, you will
be all ready to prime and paint.
If paint is not your thing, perhaps wallpa-

per is. Wallpaper comes in a variety of texture and patterns. You can use almost any
wallpaper you want, and the prep work is
fairly easy. Just fill the grooves with joint compound, sand, clean and apply liner or sizing
and the wallpaper.
Plaster is another option, but it will take
some time to do. There are many types available for novices. For the best results, you
should prime the paneling, attach the metal
lath and apply the plaster as recommended.
Depending upon your needs, you can create
a smooth, glossy finish or an earthy, flat finish.
Love the look of your paneling? Keep it
and give it an update with a new finish or
new trim. You can sand, stain and varnish
solid wood paneling just like you would any
solid wood furniture piece. You can even use

stencils and painters tape to create a pattern.

Laminate wood paneling is a bit more difficult, but can still be sanded and stained. The
stain may not penetrate evenly, however, so
you might want to experiment in a corner first.
You can create any number of patterns on
paneling with molding. Just cut the trim, nail it
to the paneling, putty the holes and paint or
stain the trim as you see fit.
None of these ideas appeal to you?
Check online and at your local hardware
store for further suggestions. And remember,
if nothing appeals to you, you can always
remove the paneling. Just be aware that what
you uncover may not be in the best of condition. Installing new drywall can be time consuming and costly.
