CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA

Council Report
July 7, 2015
To:

Honorable Mayor, Members of the City Council, and Douglas J.

Schmitz, City Administrator

From:

Sullivan Carey-Lang, Special Projects Manager

Subject:

Authorize an Amendment to the Human Resources Manager Salary

Range

RECOMMENDATION(S):
Authorize the City Administrator to amend the salary range for the Human Resources
Manager position.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
At the November 4, 2014 Council Meeting the Council adopted the three-manager
system (Human Resources, Finance, and IT) for the Administrative Services
Department. These positions were designed to replace the singular department director
structure. The City successfully recruited a Finance Manager in 2013, and an IT
Manager started the first of July.
The Human Resources Manager position remains vacant after an unsuccessful
recruitment.
With the adoption of the FY 2015-2016 budget, the salary of the IT Manager was
brought commensurate with the Finance Manager salary. The proposed adjustment
would bring the Human Resources Manager salary in line with the other two
management positions.
