INTRODUCTION
Cord blood is a source for the determination
of thyroid related hormones and thyroxinebinding globulins (TBG) in neonates.1 Many
workers have used cord blood as a sample
source for:(a) screening of congenital hypothyroidism in newborns, 2,3 (b) comparison of
mother and neonate thyroid hormones at
term,4,5(c) study of changes in thyroid hormones levels after therapeutic intervention in
pregnant women and neonates,6,7 (d) examining the interrelations of thyroid related hormones during gestation8,9 and (e) evaluation
of the severity of iodine deficiency in an
