Roel Francisco Marcial

At the time of the Marcos regime, the Filipinos assembled together to
put an end to the 21 year old dictatorship without fear. Despite of armored
cars and bullets against their naked body, the Filipino remains in unity having
the

amidst

differences. Their unity had become their weapons against the tyrannical
dictatorship.
Amidst danger, the Filipino stood up to fight against repression and
oppression at the time of the Marcos regime. Killing has been the newspaper
feds the news if not the talk of the town in short, killing happens
everywhere. Notwithstanding, the oppression and repression made by
Marcos, the Filipino begun to rise and stood to fight for their rights and
freedom. People became fearless and brave starting from the youth, women,
religious groups and other sectors of the society. Regardless of their political
affiliations, people associated for their common goals that is to end the
tyranny of the Marcos dictatorship. Their bravery and boldness to tap civic
organizations and other civil society groups begun to flourish heading mass
rallies and allys against Marcos. Once again, it moves to their realization
that unity and bravery are the weapons to end tyranny that controls the
entire populace for more or less 21 years.
The essence of the First People Power is patriotism and nationalism.
In this light, the people are ready to die for their love of country. At the time
of the Martial Law where everyone has been deprived of their rights and
privileges, the people remain standing to fight for their freedom from the
oppression and repression of the Marcos dictatorship. Fear has never been
their reason to move back from their stance against the 21 year old
dictatorship. Their courage, determination and love for country had been
their sword against fear and threat.

During the Martial Law era, the desire to remain in power of Marcos
was noticed by most of his allies despite of the crisis. In order to end this
desire for political power, the strongest allies of the Marcos begun to turn
their back against Marcos and started to work along with the other sectors of
the society. From there, the essence of unity was again felt by the Filipino
people. Because of their unity to end Marcos tyranny, they succeeded but of
course through guidance of the Divine providence.
After the fall of Marcos, Filipinos rise again and started to rebuild the
loss freedom through the icon of democracy Former Corazon Cuangco-Aquino
who gives hope to the people. They started to rebuild their dreams and
hopes that this nation can be healed again through the Divine providence.
The Filipino faith is another value that greatly contributed to the success of
everyone. Inherently, the goodness and faith of the people to God, the love
for country, patriotism and nationalism, unity and being brave and bold at
the top of the armored car and bullets pipes the goodness still prevails. And
this goodness has cultivated in the hearts and minds of the Filipinos.
