1. Application forms are graded and therefore should be completed in full and to the best of your abilities.
Please do not leave sections incomplete. Read the instructions carefully and do complete and attach the
checklist given at the end of the form.
2. In the section to be completed by your teachers/school, please ask them to also complete the form in its
entirety.
3. Your forms need to be completed and returned to the office from where you got them either personally or
by courier before 28th February 2010. Applicants failing to submit a completed test form will not be
permitted to sit the tests, which will follow shortly after.
4. All information provided by you will be subject to verification.

 GUIDELINES TO STUDENTS FOR FILLING APPLICATION FORM
(NOT TO BE RETURNED WITH FORM)

1. Writing valid email address(es) is mandatory for all applicants as needed for correspondence.

2. Please see the checklist at the end for documents to be attached and fill it in and submit it
alongwith this form. All documents stated in the check list are compulsory except where
indicated otherwise.

3. Specify age clearly i.e. in years and months. The applicant shall be minimum 16 years to maximum 17.5
years of age on 1st September 2010. An applicant who is even one day older or younger than the
maximum/minimum will not be eligible and should not apply.

4. Only students who have already passed or are appearing for final Matric or GCE “O” Level exams prior to
September 2010 are eligible and should apply.

5. Relevant certificates should be attached as proof where indicated in the form.

6. Applicants are required to complete the Application Form in all respects. Incomplete forms will disqualify
the applicant from participating in the selection process.

7. Two individuals from the same family cannot avail scholarships i.e. siblings cannot avail scholarships.
Different surnames cannot be used.

8. SECTION D of the Application Form - The applicant will be required to sit for a written test comprising of
three Essays and an objective General Knowledge test. The date for this Test will be advised to applicants
in due course.

9. The applicant must hold single Pakistani Nationality. Candidates holding multinational/non-Pakistani
Nationality are required to apply separately to the Committee for placement through the International
Quota for which Scholarship funds are not available. In other words, applicants for placement under
International Quota are required to bear full costs themselves.

10. Principals / Heads of Schools are required to clearly specify and enumerate objectively all the non-academic
interests of the applicant in the Confidential Report – Section “E” of the Application Form IN A SEALED
ENVELOPE WITH SCHOOL STAMP attached with the Application Form, or, separately to the
National/Regional Committee. (See further guidelines in the form)

11. Students are advised to come in school uniform for the written test and selection interviews when
intimated. In the event that the school does not have recognized uniform, the applicant may then come
suitably attired.

12. List of applicants who have submitted application forms will be displayed on the website:
www.uwcislamabad.org within a week after the deadline.

13. There are three ways to pay the application processing fee of Rs. 500/-. Please do any ONE.
a. Deposit the fee in cash at ‘Bank Alfalah, I-8 Markaz Branch, Current Account #: 0146-01001184,
Account Title: United World Colleges ’. Attach the original deposit slip with the application form and
retain a photocopy of the deposit slip for your own record. Depositing fee in any other Bank Alfalah
Branch might incur minimal bank charges.
b. Attach a Pay Order / Demand Draft in favour of “United World Colleges” of Rs. 500/- with the
application form and retain its photocopy for your own record.
c. Pay the fee cash at Sahil’s Office (address given on page 4). Make sure that the name on the
receipt matches with the name of the candidate in the form. The original receipt to be submitted
with the application form

DECLARATION BY PARENTS

This is to confirm that in the event that my child is selected for full Scholarship. I will bear the cost of travel, pocket
money and clothing etc. and agree to make a contribution to the funds of the college as per discussion with
Regional and National Committee of United World Colleges.

I also confirm that I will accept any Scholarship offered within three (3) days if considered suitable by me for my
child and after acceptance, I would abide by the decision. Failure to respond within the time limit will be deemed to
be refusal of the scholarship offer.

I have no objection if the National Committee wishes to check my Financial Statement with my employer or any
other source.

I also confirm that I will deposit a sum of Rs. 35,000/- (thirty five thousand only) in the form of pay order in favour
of Pakistan National Council for United World Colleges as Security Deposit if the applicant is awarded the
Scholarship. I accept that the Security Deposit will be returned, after deduction of Rs.2, 500/- as handling charges,
after the College confirms to you that my child has joined.

I hereby consent to special terms/conditions that may be prescribed by the PNC to ensure the execution of the
undertaking herewith including any form of advance payments, bank guarantees etc.

Furthermore PNC will have the right to recommend withdrawal of my son/ward/daughter in the event of breach of
terms entered in to by us and for poor performance in the college.

In the event that the Scholarship awardee, after accepting the Scholarship, refuses (under any circumstances) to
conform to the terms and conditions of scholarship or declines to accept the scholarship or does not join the
college, the amount so deposited would stand forfeited as liquidated damages.

SECTION D - Consists of four written Tests, three essays and a general knowledge test, taken under supervision
of the committee on a specified date which will be notified to the applicants separately.

TO THE APPLICANT

In connection with your application a confidential statement will be required from your school Principal. Section E of
the application form is for this purpose. Please pass section E to the Principal of your school who will be responsible
for its completion.

You are also requested to invite two teachers (other than the Principal), with your Principal’s authorization, to write
a letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope with official stamp on your behalf. It is preferable to select
teachers who know you well, so that they might comment not only on your academic abilities, but also on your
qualities of character, attitudes, social adaptability and emotional stability. If you have only recently joined your
present school, one of the teacher recommendations may be from your previous school. Please name the teachers
who will write your recommendation letters:

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

No applicant can be considered for entry without a good, confidential recommendation from the Head Teacher of
his/her current school or from other teachers with the Head’s authority. This part of the form is for the reference
(s) to be provided by the school. It should be sent to the appropriate UWC selection committee at the address
shown below.

Applicants will be short listed on the basis of the information in their application forms, written tests and their
teacher’s references, and their national or regional UWC selection committee will interview short listed candidates.

The decisions of selection committees are recommendations to the Heads of United World Colleges, not firm offers
of places. An applicant is enrolled only after receiving written acceptance by the Head of the College to which the
application has been made.

public examinations taken or to be taken, with grades/percentages achieved or anticipated; or by
providing transcripts or other records of grades awarded).

Information about UWC and its selection criteria are provided separately. Please read this section carefully
before writing your recommendations.

1. Grades achieved by the Applicant (other than grades for subjects already taken externally) should be that
of the mid term exam in the final year. Marks equivalents are:

A-1,A 80% and above

B 70% to 79%

C 60% to 69%

D 50% to 59%

E 49% and below
