A critical analysis of the retail floor operations including the movement of
merchandise from the ware house to the floor, Layout Planning, Racking
Capacity, Visual Merchandising, Inventory Control, Customer Service Teams
and Cash Counter.

Introduction:
Future group is one of the main Operations Company in India.
Central is retail hypermarket chain operated by Future Retail Limited.
Central has outlets in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad, Pune,
Mangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Vadodara .
The Retail Floor Management includes the
following aspects of Operations:

Store Atmosphere
Cash Handling
Safety and Security
Customer Service
Refunds and Returns
Visual Merchandising
Training Programs
Inventory and Stock Management

Objectives:
The objectives of my project were as follows:
1. Observe the operational activities happening in a Retail floor.
2. Find out the Critical points that influence the Retail Floor Operations.

3. Analyze the current status of the Critical points observed.


4. Suggest corrective/preventive measures to rectify the critical points.
5. Implement the corrective measures and observe the Improvements.

Research Methodology & Analysis:


The

Primary

and

Secondary

data

will

be

analyzed closely and the critical points that has significant impact on the
Operations of the Retail will be identified. These critical points will be compared
with the company SOPs and any deviation from the stated SOPs will be
brought into the notice of the management. Also the zero tolerance Critical
Points will be identified and suggestions to improve the stated points will be
given. Upon approval from the management these points will be implemented
and the change in efficiency of the operations will be noted. Also if possible will
apply SIX SIGMA to the customer critical areas like Cash Counters and
Merchandise/Inventory

Expected Outcomes:
At the end of the project, I should be in a position to
answer the following questions and define strategies to increase the operational
efficiency at Central Mall.
1. What are the key critical points in the floor Operations?
2. What are the significance of these critical points in the day to day
Operations?
3. What are the strategies that can be employed to increase the
Operational efficiency?
4. Are the suggested strategies making any difference?

Conclusion and Recommendations:


Certain Recommendations have been made on the
basis of the observations so far.
