Dear Sir/Madam,
My strong academic background in mathematical statistics, data and policy analysis, teaching, and
biomedical research make me an ideal candidate for the position of Research Scientist.
I have completed my PhD studies in Statistics at the University of Regina in June 2015. My thesis focused
on high-dimensional classification which has wide applications in decision making and strategic planning in
medical studies.
I am presently employed as a research associate in the Regina General Hospitals, Department of
Neurosurgery Neuromodulation Clinic in Regina General Hospital. During my tenure, I have interfaced with
multiple stakeholdersincluding physicians, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, and patientsto design a
customized, secure, robust, patient-oriented, software application that captures real-time clinical, social,
technical, and demographic variables. This application has been used to optimize patient care, facilitate data
mining and analysis, clinical research, and identify impact of health interventions on patient quality of life
metrics. I am also the technical lead on the Neuromodulation Clinics time motion study, which centers on the
application of mathematical and statistical modeling to identify, efficiently organize, and optimize human
resource requirements. I have received excellent evaluations from colleagues and supervisors, who have been
impressed by my ability to expertly plan and implement strategic policy objectives and project requirements,
strong communication skills, work ethic, professionalism and capacity to negotiate tight deadlines and engage
relevant stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
Additionally, teaching has been a vital aspect of my academic career. In my role as instructor for advanced
statistical and mathematical courses, I have successfully integrated student feedback, encouraged active
collaboration and participation, and facilitated a collegial learning environment that emphasizes development
of critical thinking skills and knowledge translation to real-world applications.
The unique combination of my work experience and academic qualifications, strongly position me to join
your organization as a Policy and Strategic Planning Analyst. I am confident that I can perform the requisite
data analyses and integrate such results into briefings, presentation, and policy discussions that empower senior
managers and stakeholders to make informed, strategic decisions that substantively impact health care
initiatives.
Thank-you for your consideration of my application. Enclosed is my resume.
Sincerely,
Kian
