ACID/Dated 18 February 2010.
Secretary General of International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage - ICID, Gopala Krishnan
and Secretariat staffs are pleasing to comment that two of ICID Vice Presidents would be together in
Tokyo at the beginning of March to conduct Bilateral Talk on Climate Change Impacts in Asian
Irrigation.
-------
Vice President, ICID and Chairman of ARTF-CCAWGF Shinsuke OTA, from Japan facilitate the visit
of Dr. Hafied A. Gany Chairman, PCSPOA & Vice President, ICID for an ICID meeting and consider
ARTF’s Task Force on Climate Change.
-------
Secretary general Gopala Krishnan is looking forward to the outcome, which will be shared to other
National Committees of ICID through publication in ICID News Update and Newsletter.
-------
Futher, secretary General Gopala Khrishnan recalled to have seeing the presentation of VP Ota, the
way back in December 2008 at conceptualization stage. A quickly organized group of experts from
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; The Japanese Institute of Irrigation and Drainage
(JIID) and Japan Water Forum were with the meeting in addition to VPH Nakamura.
-------
In addition, Secretary General G. Khrishnan also expect the Bilateral Talk to discuss ICID’s
contribution for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Conference, 12-14 October 2010 – “Water: Crisis
and Choices” in Manila. He reminds that the Central Office of ICID has sent letters to all the NCs in
Asian Region in this regard.
-------
In his remindern he stated further that Asian Development Bank, in their first letter to ICID itself,
desired ASRWG to be actively involved in the ICID paper. The Central Office has kept ASRWG-
Chairman VPH Karim Shiati informed while contacting all concerned.
--------
Secretary General G. Khrusgnan finds that in the upcoming meeting in Tokyo between VP Gany and
VP Ota will provide a good opportunity to look into ICID’s contributions for ADB’s theme paper. In
fact, ICID have received a very good response from Japanese National Committee today endorsing the
importance of ICID’s involvement in the ADB exercise. JNC-ICID had agreed to provide good inputs
for the exercise. However, Central office has yet to get any response from other NCs in the Asia
Region. Therefore, he is surely expecting that Indonesian National Committee’s (INACID) inputs can
come through faster with VP Gany's interventions.
-------
VP Shinsuke OTA is expecting that the representative people from the Ministry of Agriculture,
Japanese Institute of Irrigation and Drainage will join us at the meeting, to assure more fruitful result.
