OCINUM BASILICUM

AND ALLIUM SATIVUM

( BASIL-GARLIC) FOR
INSECT REPELANT

Introduction
Dengue fever , also known as breakbone fever, is a mosquitoborne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms
include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and a
characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles. In a small
proportion of cases, the disease develops into the lifethreatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low
levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue
shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs. Its
common victims are babies and children and seldom adults. The
Philippines ranks 4th in the list of ASEAN countries that tormented
by degue. According to National Epidemiology Center of the
Philippines' Department of Health there is a total of 59,943
dengue cases in 2014. 38.91% are 5 to 14 year old children.

Athough our government is serious in irradicating dengue cases in

our country and formulating an anti-dengue programs , there are
still cases of dengue though slowly declining. The dengue carrying
mosquitoes are known as day bitting mosquitoes but now there is
also risk of bitting at night which means we have a 24/7 alert for
degue.

Various skin repelant and insecticide that is used to prevent

degue carrying masquitoes to spread and multiply but it can
really cost a lot that most of the poor families cant even afford. I
decided to develop an insecticide that is not costly and you can
easily find everywhere and as effective as any expensive
insecticide.
Ocinum Bicilicum also known as basil have an active substance
known as volatile oil that can repel insect while Allium Sativum
known as garlic has allicin that can also repel mosquitoes. By
using both, it will create a much more effective and cheap
mosquito replelant that everyone can afford.
