Please follow the instructions in your yellow packet for the top of the first page.

PURPOSE OF THE INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH: Your introduction paragraph has two

main jobs. First, it needs to get the reader’s attention. Show the reader that you have something
interesting to say. Second, you need to let them know what they will be reading. The transition
information should introduce your champion and move the reader smoothly from the first
sentence (attention getter) to the thesis statement. The thesis and the forecast should be clear,
exact, and succinct. It tells the reader what you will prove (that your person is really a champion)
and how your will prove it (what the three topics will be for your body paragraphs).

Your body paragraphs develop just one idea from your thesis. Each direct quote and each

much direct quotation—only use the part that is most relevant to the point you are proving. The
rest can be paraphrased or explained in your own words. Body paragraphs provide analysis and
show your understanding of the topic. Think critically, explain clearly, quote relevantly.
Remember to include parenthetical citations.
