Recommendations and Conclusions

Whileourdevicemeetsmostofthecustomersrequirements,itslargestfaultisthatitcannot
shootfromthethreepointline.Thefinalprototypecanshootabasketsafelyfromadistance
of15feet,whichisthedistanceofafreethrow.Toexpandtherangeofourdevice,theheight
oftheframecouldbeincreased,allowingformoreroomtopullbacktheelastic.

Lookingbackonthedesignoftheproject,thereweresomepartsthatcouldbeimproved.
Particularly,thedesignofthecarriagecouldbeupgraded.First,theoriginaldesignwasforthe
carriagewastobendthe6061aluminumintoshapeandthenboltthemtogether.
Unbeknownsttotheteam,6061cannotbend90degreeswithoutbreaking.Also,theshapeof
thecarriagecausestheballtosittooneside,causingmisfireswhentheUPFisnotonlevel
ground.Thecarriagealsohasbeendeformingduetotheimpactforce,soathickertopplateof
aluminumthan1/8orpossiblystrongermetalsuchassteelmaybetterbeabletohandlethe
forceofimpact.Anotherpossibilitytoreducethisimpactdeformationistoincludetwomore
rubberstoppersontheothersidesoftheframe,distributingtheload.

Anotherrecommendationwouldtochooseadifferentwaytomakethetabletopratherthana
hugeanglestockpiece.Thisisalittlebitcumbersomeandwasteful.Theleadscrewsalsotakea

thespeed.Also,theframeofourdevicecancurrentlymovebackandforthalongthelower
frontbaroftheUPF.Inthefuture,itwouldbeusefultoaltertheuchannelattachmentpoints
sothattheyclampontotheUPF.Duringtesting,wenoticedthattheratchetarmwould

fixedinafewdifferentways:thehexboltcouldbelengthened,theleadscrewhingecouldbe
madethinner,orsomematerialcouldbeplacedonthehingetoguardtheleverfromdamage.
Drillingholesinthepolycarbonatesafetycasingsheetswastimeconsuming,soaquicker

Inall,thetaskofdevelopinganadaptivebasketballlauncherwithforce,size,andattachment
