The logo was all designed in Adobe Illustrator. I took a large size letter C and
tweaked it to what you see now. I made the anchors in the middle of the C with a
combination of the pen tool and brush tools. I wanted to make sure that the anchor
I made was unique enough to stand out, but still tied into the other instances of the
anchor which I did not design. I chose the color scheme I did to show the danger of
a dark ocean contrasted to the safety of a sure Captain. Using the symbols of the
anchor and the lines I made both a business card and stationery.

I did a lot of things to make this come alive. All of the main layout stuff was done
in Adobe InDesign, with many of the images being edited in Photoshop. Within
Photoshop I cropped, cut out, and touched up images. I made the Rose Cottage logo
in Adobe Illustrator, as well as the initial concept of the banners. I made the banners
in InDesign in the end.
To get the cutout effect of us on the inside I used the quick select tool in Photoshop
then cleaned up the edges using the refine edges tool. I blended the middle images
using layer masks and the brush tool. The most work was likely done in InDesign.
Laying everything out and playing with fonts and font sizes was brutal. I had it all as I
wanted it, then I had to switch computers and I forgot to package my fonts. Since I did
not have them on the other computer, I had to switch my font completely right before
printing. I liked my first fonts better.

I used Adobe InDesign to make this flier. I learned quite a bit about the pen tool in the
making of this flier, as well as the importance of a unifying object or objects. I tried
hard to keep things aligned and unified.

I had some really cool ideas before i started this project. The best part about this
project was being able to see my ideas come to life. They did not turnout like they
were in my head. That meant for the worse in the first and last designs, but for the
better in the middle design. I took these ideas in my head and tried to picture them on
paper. I found a font that matched my text concept for each individual design. I then
sketched and manipulated the text into what i had wanted to see.

Process:
This started with me finding an image in Backpacker magazine. I scanned it using the
library scanner here on the BYU-Idaho campus. Since the photo had so many great
elements to it, I did all that I could to keep that message intact. Adding the text was
meant to compliment the photo and not take away from it.

I got my idea by looking at my shoes. I liked the colors and how they complimented
each other so very well. I went from there and saw some dirt by a tree. I thought
about a poem about choosing your own path, so I decided to smoosh all three
together. I started with the image. I wanted it to be simple, yet fill the page with life.
The colors on my shoe were not quite where I wanted them to be, so I changed them
slightly with the color adjustment tools. I then added the text and played with the
color a lot. I worked on a few designs until I landed on the one I have now. I liked the
colors that I started with so I used them where I could, without detracting from the
simpleness of the image.

Process:
I mainly used Notepad++ to get this done. I used just Notepad for a few things
as well. This really just helped me to get back into HTML, since it had been a few
years. Knowing the very basics is helpful when looking at other sites that need
improvement. I started coding the HTML pretty much from scratch. After I was done, I
ran this through the w3 verification tool. That was a humbling thing. It pays not to get
cocky. Once all was said and done with my HTML, I used a CSS template to style it up
a little bit. I had wanted to do more, but time and attention are sparse commodities
right now.
