A24yearoldmanarrestedforrapingandmurderingasixyearoldgirlinBegampurinnorthwestDelhi
onJuly14hasconfessedtosexuallyassaultingandkillingatleast15otherchildren,boysandgirls,since
2009.
RavinderKumar,whowasnabbedonFriday,toldpoliceheabductedchildrenafterluringthemwith
toffeesormoney,tookthemtoanisolatedspot,rapedthemandstrangledthemtodeath.Hedumpedthe
bodiesindrainsorfieldsorburiedthem.
Withlittleinformationathandaboutthevictims,policewereabletoestablishKumar'sinvolvementin
onlysixsuchdeaths.WhiletwoofthevictimswerefromBegampur,onecaseeachwasunearthedin
Kanjhawala,SamaipurBadli,MundkaandVijayVihar.
PoliceteamsarelookingintosimilarinstancesinNoida,AligarhandBadauninUttarPradesh.
Kumar'scrimesrevivedhorrificmemoriesoftheNitharimurdersof2005and2006inNoida,where
severalyounggirlsreportedmissingwerefoundtohavebeenabducted,assaultedandmurderedby
SurinderKoli,ahelpinabusinessman'shouse.Koliwasawardeddeathsentencewhichhasbeen
commutedtolife.Manyofthecasesremainunsolved.Kumar'snamesurfacedwhenpolicewereprobing
thedisappearanceofasixyearoldgirl.AnFIRonchargesofabductionwasfiled.Thebodyofthegirl
wasfoundinahalfconstructedthreestoreybuilding50mfromherhouse,DCP(outer)Vikramjeet
Singhsaid.Shehadbeenrapedandstrangled.AnFIRunderIPCsectionsofrape,sexualassault,sodomy
,murderanddestructionofevidenceandsection6oftheProtectionofChildrenfromSexualOffences
Actwasregistered.
AsearchofthesitethrewupsomepapersandadrivinglicencebelongingtoamannamedSunny.Police
foundSunnyinahospital.SunnysaidhisfriendRavinder,hisbrotherSunilandathirdfriendassaulted
himafewdaysagoandtookhisbike,licenceandcash.Sunnymanagedtoescape,theDCPsaid.
Piecingtogethertheclues,policeconcludedthatatleastoneofSunny'sattackerswasbehindthesix
yearold'sdeath.Kumar'srecordsrevealedhehadbeenarrestedearlierforassaultingaminorboyin
Begampurlastyearandgrantedbaillater.Within24hours,KumarwasarrestedfromOuterDelhi.
Aspolicequestionedhimaboutthemurders,Kumarbrokedownandconfessedtohavingassaultedand
murderedmanymorechildren.
Heabductedtheboynearhishouseafterluringhimwithmoney.Heescapedafterstranglingtheboy
andslittinghisthroat,assumingthathethedied.However,thechildwassavedascopsfoundhim
bleedingintheseptictankofanunderconstructionbuildinginBegampur.Kumarwassubsequently
arrested.Inthesameyear,hetargetedathreeyearoldgirlinSamaipurBadli,aseniorpoliceofficer
said.
PolicehavealsofoundhimtobeinvolvedintheassaultandmurderofagirlinKanjhawalain2011and
anothercase,thedetailsofwhicharebeingascertained,in2010inMundka.Hehadalsotargetedanother
boyinVijayViharin2009.HavingworkedasadriverinNoida,Kumarissuspectedofseveralsuch

attacksinBadaun,hisnativeplace,NoidaandAligarhwherehewasstayingwithrelatives.Policeare
stillverifyingandcorroboratingthedetails.
DCP(outer)Singhsaidaspecialteamhadbeenformedtoprobethecases.Weareverifyingallhis
claims.TheconnectedFIRsandfamiliesarebeingidentified.Hehasconfessedtohavingtargetedat
least15children,hesaid.
