any extra on arranging insurance,
servicing, maintenance, breakdown
assistance, new tyres or windscreen
replacement as these are all included.
You dont even have to be able to

Suitability
1. Which type of car suits your needs?
The first thing you should think about is what
you need from a car. What are the things you
are going to be doing and what type of car best
meets those needs?
Have difficulty parking?
Here are some questions to consider

as a starting point:
How many people are going to travel in it regularly?

Will you be doing a lot of motorway driving?
Do you mainly do short journeys in built up areas?
How much boot space do you need?
Is parking a problem?
Are you able to change gear easily?
If you have a mobility aid, will it fit easily into the car?
Do you need to take your scooter or wheelchair with you?
Need to carry pets?
For instance, if you mainly drive in built up areas with low speed
limits, a petrol engine might be more suitable. This is because
most diesel vehicles are fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs)
and many of these need to be regenerated by regularly travelling
at speeds over 40mph. If you have a big family you may want
to consider a large family car or MPV. If you find it difficult to
change gear easily, an automatic might be a good choice.
Youll also need to think about travelling in the car day to day.
Small changes in type, model or specification can have a big
impact on your comfort or the cars suitability. For example,
seat height, door opening angle and positioning of the seat
belts can all make a big difference. A good place to start is to
think about your current car, if you have one, and decide what
you like and dislike about it. It may be useful to refer to the
quick checklist on page 6.

Adaptations and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

For information on adaptations to make driving or travelling
easier (such as hand or steering controls) and Wheelchair
Accessible Vehicles (specially designed to accommodate your
wheelchair), please see pages 29 and 34 of this guide.

of what each category means e.g. hatchback, MPVs, 4x4, etc.
on pages 10-16 of this guide. If you are at all unsure as to
whats right for you, then your local dealer will be glad to help.
Your dealer will take you through the Suitability Questionnaire,
which is designed to make sure the car youre considering,
and the Motability Scheme, is right for you. To see the full list

2. Which cars come within your budget?
Above all, we aim to make leasing a brand new car affordable. So once you have decided what
sort of car would suit you best, you need to know which ones are within your budget.
Keeping fuel costs down
Dont forget that your lease includes

everything, except fuel, to provide you
with worry-free motoring, so you will
need to take into account the cars fuel
costs. To keep the running costs down
you may want to consider a more fuel
efficient engine. Each car listed has a
miles per gallon (mpg) figure; cars with
a higher mpg cost less to run and
usually provide lower CO2 emissions
over the course of your lease.
Remember the mpg given is a guide
to help you compare cars and is based
on test conditions. The actual mpg each
car achieves in real world driving is
likely to be lower than the official figure.
Choose a car to suit your budget
When you lease a car through the Motability Scheme, there are three pricing
options. However, no matter how much you pay or what car you choose, all
customers will enjoy the same all-inclusive package of insurance, breakdown
cover, servicing, tyres and glass replacement. The three pricing options are:
1 Cars that cost less than your
mobility allowance a range of

nearly 200 cars on the Scheme cost
less than your mobility allowance,
meaning the remainder will be paid
directly to you by the Department
for Work and Pensions (DWP). These
cars are available to lease at a fixed
weekly amount for the whole of
your agreement and any increases
in your allowance that the DWP
makes will be paid directly to you. In
this guide these cars are highlighted
in yellow. For more information, see
page 9 of this guide.
2 Cars that cost all of your mobility

allowance we have a range of
over 300 cars that cost the same
as your allowance. Theres no

Advance Payment and you simply
swap the whole of your weekly
mobility allowance for the car of
your choice. These cars are
highlighted in blue.
3 Cars that cost all of your mobility
allowance and also have an

Advance Payment you can
increase your choice of cars by
topping up your allowance with
a non-refundable upfront payment
which we call the Advance Payment.
This payment covers the difference
between your allowance and the
total cost of the lease over the
course of your agreement. These
cars are highlighted in red.
To give you an idea of costs, for

each car listed we have highlighted
the average annual fuel costs which
can help you compare between cars
and see which option might save
you money.
Trade-in your old car
You can trade-in your privately owned

car to help finance the Advance
Payment of your new car.
Many Motability dealerships will
offer this and the dealer will arrange
the trade-in with you directly. To find

Test drive
3. Try out a few cars before you finally decide
Once youve worked out what type of car you want and looked at the available options,
its very important that you take a few different cars out for a test drive.
A test drive is the only way to find out properly
whether a car is right for you and your dealer will
be more than happy to arrange this. Even if you
choose a car similar to the one you drive now, you
may well discover that the manufacturer has made
a number of changes and alterations to the latest
model, so it is advisable to take a test drive to make
sure you are still happy with your choice.
There are three parts to a successful

test drive:
1. Ins and outs: Take time to check you are happy

about getting in and out of the vehicle.
2. Dealer demonstration: Ask the dealer to show
you around the vehicle and explain all the features.
3. On the road: Take the car out on the road with
the dealer. Check how comfortable it is to drive, or
travel in, and how easy it is to park.
Use this handy checklist to mark each feature of the car you test drive
out of 10. Add up the totals and see which one comes out on top!

Take your time on your drive and remember that
the final decision is always yours. Its also worth
bearing in mind that the delivery times will differ
for different makes and models. Ask your dealer
what the expected delivery time might be as it
may affect your choice.
Test driving automatics, adapted cars

and WAVs
If you want to test drive an automatic car you will

need to arrange this when you call your dealer as
there are often less of these models available on
site. To try out adaptations, it may be worth
contacting a Mobility Centre see page 29 for
further details. Meanwhile, if you are opting for a
WAV, specialist WAV converters will travel to your
home to help make this easier.

The non-refundable amount payable
upfront to your dealer in addition to
your weekly mobility allowance.

8 Average fuel:

This shows an approximate annual fuel
cost for comparison purposes only. It is
based on the average annual mileage
driven by Motability customers (8,300)
and the latest AA fuel price report.
Rental:
This shows the relevant amount

of DLA or PIP that will be paid to

Motability Operations each week.
Total allowance means that the total
amount of the higher rate mobility
allowance is payable in exchange for
your car. From 8 April 2015, total
allowance is 57.45 for recipients of
HRMC of DLA and ERMC of PIP; and
64.15 for recipients of WPMS.
7 Average mpg:

This shows the average number of
miles a car can travel for every gallon of

fuel. This is for comparison purposes
only and is likely to be lower than the
figure actually achieved.

emissions:

This shows the emission levels in
grammes per kilometre (g/km). A green

tick highlights low emission vehicles
which have a CO2 of 100g/km or below.
10 Pricing options:

There are three different pricing

options available:
The cars shaded in yellow cost less
than your mobility allowance,
meaning you keep any money
left over
The cars shaded in blue require you
to exchange all of your allowance,
including any increases
The cars shaded in red require you
to exchange all of your allowance,
including any increases, and topping
up with a one off Advance Payment.
The small print

The terms, conditions, prices, model
features and adaptations set out in this
car price guide are correct at time of going
to print. However, these may be subject to
adjustment or withdrawal in the event of
any changes taking place which affect the
cost of the provision of the Contract Hire
agreement or vehicle availability.
The Contract Hire lease package with
Motability Operations comes with a
mileage allowance of 60,000 for three

year leases and 100,000 for five year WAV
agreements. If you go over this amount,
you will be charged 5p for each extra mile.
Insurance is included, however, in the
event of a claim you will be asked to pay
an excess unless a third party is found
to be at fault. Full insurance details are
included in the Insurance Cover Booklet
supplied with the Motability car.

have around 150 cars available to lease for
less than your weekly mobility allowance
(currently 57.45 for DLA and PIP). These
cars are available at a fixed weekly amount
for the whole of your agreement and there
is no Advance Payment required. The

2-3 door cars generally have wider doors with
larger opening angles. This may make access
easier, however be aware that closing the door
and fitting in narrow parking spaces may be more
difficult. Smaller vehicles tend to have lower
CO2 emissions than the larger vehicles.

Adaptations
Adaptations are a range of devices that
can be fitted to your car to help make
driving, or travelling, easier. Typically,
adaptations fall into three categories: they
can help you drive, stow your wheelchair
or scooter, or get in and out of the car.
We currently offer over 350 different
adaptations through our Motability
Managed Adaptations Programme, where
the adaptations are fitted before your car
is delivered and the price of the adaptation
is paid along with the Advance Payment
to your dealer at the start of the lease.
The adaptations included over the next
few pages are just a sample of the
selection available for a full list please
see our website, motability.co.uk. To take
advantage of the prices listed, you must
order any adaptations you need through

your Motability dealer at the same time
that you order your car. All prices include
installation and any maintenance that
may be required. Further adjustments
carried out by your installer may result
in an additional charge.
Choosing the right adaptation

Adaptations are not suitable for every type
of car so its important to consider the
adaptations you need before you choose
your car. Your local Motability adaptation
installer will be happy to help. There are
more than 100 installers across the UK
and you can find all their contact details,
and information on which adaptations
they provide, at motability.co.uk. If you
dont have internet access you can call
us on 0800 093 1000.
If youve never driven with an adaptation

before, it may be worth visiting a Mobility
Centre for an assessment. These centres
offer independent, professional information
and advice and can help you find the
adaptations that best suit your particular
needs. There are a number of Mobility
Centres across the UK, to find your nearest
centre, visit mobility-centres.org.uk
or call 0800 559 3636. Please note that
there may be a charge for assessments.

Mechanical hand controls and left foot accelerator

If you find using foot pedals for braking or acceleration
difficult, you may be better off using a hand control, such
as a push/pull device or a radial accelerator. There are a
number of different hand controls available from different
manufacturers, but the basic function is the same across
most models the foot pedals are controlled by devices
installed around the steering column and wheel, allowing
you to use your hands to push or pull a lever to control
the speed of the car or when you need to stop. Most
push/pull hand controls can be ordered with a built-in
indicator switch at no extra cost.

If you cannot operate the standard accelerator pedal
in an automatic car, you may benefit from having a left
foot accelerator fitted. This system transfers the original
acceleration control of the car to an extra pedal fitted
on the left side, allowing you to manage your speed
in a way thats more comfortable for you. With most
installations, the original accelerator pedal can still be
used when the left foot pedal is not deployed, so the car
can also be driven safely by any nominated drivers who
do not require adaptations. We recommend seeking
advice from an adaptations installer first if you have
not used this type of adaptation before.

Steering aids
If you have difficulty using a standard steering wheel, there are a number of solutions that may be able to help. A steering
wheel ball can be fitted to allow for easier control. The driver simply holds the ball and uses it to move the wheel in the direction
you want to go. If youre having hand controls fitted, then it is often essential to have a steering wheel ball to enable you to
steer the car with one hand while operating any hand controls with the other.

Electronic accelerator
If you have limited mobility in your legs, or find push/pull hand controls too tiring, you may find that an electronic accelerator will
help. These devices transfer accelerator control to a ring positioned either above or below the steering wheel or to a trigger device

If you cant lift your wheelchair into the boot of your car, a hoist which stores your wheelchair in your
car could be the solution. These wheelchair stowage systems can be a great help by taking the weight
of the wheelchair and manoeuvring it effortlessly for you via a remote control. The size and weight of
your wheelchair or scooter will affect the type of hoist you need, and the type of hoist you need will
affect your choice of car. The price of the boot hoist includes a compatible tie-down to secure the
wheelchair or scooter in the back of the car and most hoists also come with a suitable lifting bracket.

Wheelchair stowage roof top system

If you cant lift your wheelchair and you need the boot space of your car to store other things,
rooftop wheelchair stowage could be beneficial. This system consists of an electric hoist which,
when attached to your wheelchair, lifts it up and stores it in a box fitted to the roof of your car.
The type, size and weight of your wheelchair will affect the type of hoist you need, and costs will
vary accordingly. Rooftop stowage systems may mean that you are no longer able to park in
underground car parks or spaces where there are height restrictions.

Permanent swivel seats

If youre finding getting in and out of your car increasingly difficult or uncomfortable, you may benefit from having a swivel seat fitted
inside your car. The way in which they operate varies from model to model, but the basic function allows the car seat to rotate by 90,
move out to beyond the sill of the door and in some cases lower or tip, to help make getting in and out of your car easier. Swivel seats

Wheelchair swivel seats

A wheelchair swivel seat enables you to move in and out of the car without needing to rise from the seat. Once locked in position,
the actual seat itself is transferred from the wheelchair base unit to a swivel base inside the car, all without the wheelchair user
having to move position. Its easy and comfortable for both the passenger and the person assisting. The wheelchair base unit is
then stored in the car boot. There are both manual and powered wheelchair options available. Like permanent swivel seats its

If you are a wheelchair user, another option for accessing the car is via an electric person hoist,
which physically lifts you into the car. A specially designed canvas sling is put in position with very
little movement required from the wheelchair user. Heavy duty hooks in the sling are then slipped
onto the hoist and the hoist is raised electronically.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs)

If you find transferring from your
wheelchair into a standard car and storing
your wheelchair difficult, then you could
benefit from a WAV. WAVs are vehicles
that have been converted by specialists
so that wheelchair users can travel in them
while remaining in their wheelchair, either
as a passenger or driver. We offer brand
new WAVs on a five year lease based on
the exchange of your total allowance,
including any increases. And with a
mileage allowance of up to 100,000 miles
over the course of your lease, youll be
able to get out and about with the peace
of mind that comes with the Motability
Schemes worry-free motoring package.
This price guide contains a selection
of the many WAVs available, and the full
range is on our website.
There are also a number of optional extras

available which can help to make access
to the WAV easier or travelling more
comfortable, for example a ramp winch.
Speak to your supplier to find out which
optional extras you could get on the WAVs
youre considering.

Different sizes of WAVs

WAVs will vary according to size and style, ranging from small to large to help you consider what will suit your needs, weve
included a size category on our WAV pricing pages. Weve also provided an example of a seating layout for each different size
of WAV to give you an idea of whats available.

Medium
Large
Smaller WAVs normally have a ramp

rather than a lift to allow access. They
usually have a lowered floor to give
more headroom inside the vehicle and
reduce the angle of the ramp making it
easier to get in and out.
A medium WAV is more suitable for a

larger wheelchair or if you need to carry
equipment. Most will have a ramp but
some are available with a lift instead.
Large WAVs are a good option if you

have a very large or heavy wheelchair or
if you need to carry lots of equipment.
They are normally fitted with a lift to
make entry easier.
Wheelchair position
WAVs normally position the wheelchair user towards the rear of the vehicle. However some vehicles can be converted so that
the wheelchair user can sit upfront next to the driver. Its important to remember that an upfront option will be more expensive.

way to lease a Wheelchair Accessible
Vehicle, but with all the peace of mind
that you would expect from the Motability
Schemes all-inclusive lease package,
then our Nearly New WAVs might
be for you. Each Nearly New WAV is
no more than three years old, has
a low mileage and, to ensure that we
are able to offer guaranteed quality,
will be carefully checked by a Motability

Scheme approved supplier.
Our Nearly New WAVs are available
on a three year lease with a 60,000
mileage allowance. Many customers
prefer these vehicles due to the shorter
lease length, quicker delivery times
and lower Advance Payments than
the equivalent new WAV. However
its important to remember that

stock is limited and availability varies
across each Motability WAV supplier.

There are two main conversion types: you can transfer into a standard or adapted driver seat from your
wheelchair or the vehicle can be driven directly from your wheelchair. Because these vehicles have
additional bespoke adaptations to allow you to drive independently, they tend to have a higher Advance

Dealership (08/06/15, 149.00 p.a.) and one MOT payment
of 54.85.
7. There is no standard option to purchase the car offered by the
Motability Scheme
8. June 2015 CAP resale value for a vehicle with a 15 year plate sold
in three years time, with an average of 25,000 miles covered.
9. The total cost assumes that this vehicle has either been handed
back at the end of the three year Motability Scheme contract or
has been sold privately at the forecast value predicted in [8] above.
If more or less money is achieved on the sale of the vehicle, the
total three year costs would change.
