1. INTRODUCTION:
IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials), founded on
May 17, 1926.IAPMO is an 87 year old Non Government and Non-profit Organization
serving Plumbing and Mechanical industry. IAPOMO has its worldwide presence with
world HQ at California-USA.
IAPMO is renowned worldwide for its publications and allied activities such as:

A safe and sustainable environment is everyones responsibility, but only few
societies, organizations universities & institutions blend the experienced leadership
and globally experienced resources necessary to produce a consensus document to
orchestrate the entire industrys efforts to go green. With more than 87 years in
focused code development and model codes that protect half the worlds population,
IAPMO & its Indian branch IAPMO-India is the natural choice in development of
codes and code based training model that will equip our industry with the tools to
build a better, more sustainable coexistence with the planet.
IAPMO has assisted code development in many countries and almost 50% of the
Worlds population is following these codes. IAPMO is a founding organization of the
World Plumbing Council (WPC). In support of WPC, IAPMO is working with World
Health Organization (WHO) to help bring sound, efficient plumbing systems to the
developing nations.
IAPMOI (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials India),
established & registered under 1956 act, in 2007 with offices in Bangalore and Pune
derives strength and opportunities from IAPMO Group. IAPMO- I is devoted to the
health, safety, and welfare of the people of India.
International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials- India (IAPMO- I) and
the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), are working together to establish a model
code of plumbing installation and maintenance for all of India.
Indian Plumbing Association: IPA was established in 1993, as an apex body of
plumbing professional in the country. IPA is a voluntary organization of like-minded

people (approx. 2000), business leaders and eminent personalities in infra-structure
and construction industry. IPA is set up with an objective to promote advancements
in plumbing and the building service industry. IPA has got 12 Chapters pan India
with the members comprising business associates, manufacturers, consultants,
engineers and architects.
2. OUR PUBLICATIONS:
IAPMO-I and IPA have worked together to publish codes from the base codes of
IAPMO Group to meet the Indian environment and requirements which has been
assisting the people of India in assuring safe plumbing and mechanical practices.

3. OUR ASSOCIATIONS IN INDIA:


IPA, CPWD, BAI, TERI, IGBC, CII, ISHRAE, FSAI, IIEC
IPA, IAPMO-India and IGBC (The Indian Green Building Council) have mutually
entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate and share a mutual
recognition of the environmental issues and concerns related to the plumbing
industry, in addition to concerns for the public safety and welfare. IAMPO-I, also a
member of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) is working jointly to propagate
our publications and training programs.
Our joint association and partnership is to promote codes and code based training,
Skill Development, Green Plumbing India Programme, Product Testing and
Certification, Water Audit, Energy Audit.
Plumbing Education to Employment Programme (PEEP)
The IPA-IAPMO-I Plumbing Education to Employment Programme (PEEP) is based
on UPC-I. The Plumbing Systems Design (PSD) and Plumbing Construction
Management (PCM) academic programs are suitable for consultants, contractors,
engineers, supervisors, managers, architects and interior designers.
The Plumbing Technology Programme (PTP) is a one year full time or 2 years part
time program. PTP is divided in 8 modules and is suitable for school dropouts, fresh
plumbers who wish to join the trade, Apprentice Plumbers and Master Plumbers.
Short Term and Long Term Courses in Plumbing:
Very few opportunities available for skill development are for the school dropout
youth & existing workers especially in the unorganized/informal sector. Most of the
existing Skill Development programmes are long term in nature. Poor and less
educated persons cannot afford long term training programmes due to higher entry

qualifications, opportunity cost etc. Therefore, a new frame work for Skill
Development for the Informal Sector has been evolved to address to the above
mentioned problems.
The key features of the new frame work for skill development are:
Demand driven Short term training courses based on modular employable skills
decided in consultation with Industry
Flexible delivery mechanism (part time, weekends, full time)
Different levels of programmes (Foundation level as well as skill upgradation) to meet
Demands of various target groups
Central Government will facilitate and promote training while Vocational
Training (VT)
Providers under the Govt. and Private Sector will provide training
Optimum utilization of existing infrastructure to make training cost effective.
Testing of skills of trainees by independent assessing bodies who would not
be involved in conduct of the training programme, to ensure that it is done
impartially.
Testing & certification of prior learning (skills of persons acquired informally)
Duration of the programmes:
Time taken to gain the qualification will vary according to the pathway taken and will
be kept very flexible for persons with different backgrounds and experience. Duration
has been prescribed in hours in the curriculum of individual module, which are based
on the content and requirements of a PEEP Module. However, some persons may
take more time than the prescribed time. They should be provided reasonable time to
complete the course.

1 Day
UPC-I Awareness Program
Corse Code: UAP 1
Introduction:
UPC-I Awareness Programs will be conducted jointly by IAPMO Plumbing Codes and
Standards India Private Limited (IAPMO India), and Indian Plumbing Association
(IPA). It will be conducted all across India for large government departments,
consulting firms, construction contractors, developers, builders and various
associations related to building/plumbing industry (referred to as Organizers).
This 1 day UPC-I Awareness Program is a workshop useful for those who desire
introduction to 2011 Uniform Plumbing Code-India (UPC-I) and want to enhance their
knowledge which may further their career.
Participants will be introduced to the code and the fundamental code concepts,
terminology and important provisions. They will enhance their knowledge of code
use, interpretation and understanding of code language. They will also understand
the advantages of following the plumbing code of international repute in plumbing
designs, installations and maintenance thereafter.
Suitability:
The program is suitable for any building/plumbing professional having keen interest
in learning and upgrading the knowledge and skills in plumbing based on the latest
2011 Uniform Plumbing Code-India (UPC-I). There is no requirement to meet any
minimum qualifications of the delegates.
Program Methodology:
This is a one day program (9.30 am to 5.30 pm) and shall be conducted by the
IAPMO designated faculty in your own training facility. This way the working hours
and cost of your staffs travel can be saved.
The program will be conducted in English.
The delegates are encouraged to take notes and draw sketches during the training. If
possible, they should purchase their own copy of the UPC-I.
The last session will have an objective type assessment (open book type, and easy)
and verification of answers thereof by the next delegate.

Syllabus
1. Introduction to Codes and Standards and General Regulations
This topic will provide the student with a better understanding of the development,
roles, and uses of codes and standards in the construction industry.
Approvals, AHJ, alternative materials, minimum standards, sewers required,
industrial wastes, workmanship, prohibited fittings and practices, water conservation,
protection of pipes and structures, waterproofing, rat proofing, hangers and supports,
trenching, types of joints.
2. Architectural and Structural Coordination
This topic deals with various architectural and structural provisions to be made during
the planning stage.
Local municipal laws relating to plumbing and basic information on fire static water
requirements. Spaces required for various sanitary facilities, plumbing shafts, water
tanks and pump rooms, centralized hot water systems, coordination with the
architects. Structural parameters such as sunken toilets, location of columns and
beams, post-tension slabs, importance of ledge walls.
3. Plumbing Terminology
This topic covers the terminology of the trade. Definitions for most words can be
found in a dictionary, but there are technical or trade terms which take on a special
meaning when used in relation to plumbing.
Understanding of plumbing terminology will provide the student with insight into the
development of the art of plumbing. A list of abbreviations associated with the trade
is included in this course.
4. Plumbing Fixtures and Fixture Fittings
This topic will provide the student with a better understanding of code requirements
relating to installed receptacles, devices, or appliances that are supplied with water
or that receive liquid or liquid-borne wastes and discharges such wastes into the
drainage system to which it may be directly or indirectly connected.

Plumbing fixtures, water conserving fixtures, water closets, bidets, urinals, flushing
devices, lavatories, bath/showers, kitchen sinks, water coolers, drinking fountains,
clothes washers, mop sinks, overflows, strainers, prohibited fixtures, installation
standards, strainers, floor drains, floor slopes, location of valves, hot water
temperature, and table of minimum plumbing facilities.
5. Traps and Interceptors
This topic covers the requirements related to proper installation of traps and
interceptors in residential and industrial settings.
Traps required, trap arms, developed length, trap seals, venting to traps, trap
primers, prohibited traps, building traps, clarifiers, grease interceptors, sizing, FOG
disposal, oil and sand interceptors.
6. Indirect Waste
This topic covers the two forms of discharge available for indirect waste piping
depending on the nature of the contents or systems served by the fixture, appliance
or equipment.
Air-gap, food establishments, sink traps, dish washers, drinking fountains, waste
receptors, sterile equipment, appliances, condensers, chemical wastes, point of
discharge, venting.
7. Sanitary Drainage
This topic deals with the design of drainage systems based on a single pipe fully
vented arrangement and the requirements of building sewer systems. The two pipe
fully ventilated system commonly used in India is also discussed. This subject matter
discusses the methods and materials to collect, transport and dispose of waste.
Preamble, pipe materials and jointing methods, special joints, fixture connections
(drainage), hydraulic jump, change in direction of flow, T and Y fittings, cleanouts,
pipe grading, fixtures below invert level, suds relief, testing, building sewers, testing,
sumps and pumps, public sewers, sewage disposal. Introduce DFU, sizing of
horizontal and vertical pipes.
8. Vents
This topic covers need of vents and proper placement in the drainage system.
Vent requirement, trap seal protection, materials, vent connections, flood rim level,
termination, vent stacks, water curtain and hydraulic jump, horizontal and vertical wet
venting, combination waste and vent system, cleanouts, venting of interceptors.
Introduction to vent sizing, sizing of combination vents etc.
9. Storm Drainage
This topic provides the guidelines to collect/capture the storm water and discharge it
in a safe and efficient manner.
Storm drain required, prohibited connections, subsoil drains, sub-drains,
gutters/channels/scuppers, window areaway drains, roof drains, strainers, leaders,

conductors and connections, siphonic drains, underground drains, materials, traps
required, prohibited installations, testing. Introduction to sizing of channels, rainwater
down takes, underground drains.
10. Water Supply
This topic will introduce students to the potable and non-potable water supply and
distribution systems. Topics discussed include potable water storage, potable water
piping, and drinking water treatment units.
Preamble, sources of water, potable and non-potable water, reclaimed water, water
storage, treatment, hot and cold water distribution system, backflow prevention, air
gap, cross connection control, pipe materials and jointing methods, pressure
controls, unions, thermal expansion, types of valves, installation and testing,
disinfection, protection of underground pipes, colour codes and arrow marking.
Introduce WSFU.
Program Conclusion:
At the end of each program the certificate of attendance signed by IAPMO Indias
designated trainer will be given to each delegate.
One set of complementary copies of plumbing codes will be given to the program
organizers for its library.

(IPA). It will be conducted all across India for large government departments,

This 2 days UPC-I Awareness Program is a workshop useful for those who desire
introduction to 2011 Uniform Plumbing Code-India (UPC-I) and want to enhance their
knowledge which may further their career. Reading a code book and self-studying it
is a lengthy process which many working professionals find difficult. A short 2 days
UPC-I Awareness Program will be a great opportunity for them.
Participants will be introduced to the code, its structure and the fundamental code
concepts, terminology and important provisions. They will enhance their knowledge
of code use, interpretation and understanding of code language. They will also
understand the advantages of following the plumbing code of international repute in
plumbing designs, installations and maintenance thereafter.
Suitability:
The program is suitable for two audience groups:
1.
Engineers, Supervisors, Project Managers and Contractors.
2.
Planners, Architects and Interior Designers.
The program is suitable for any building/plumbing professional having keen interest
in learning and upgrading the knowledge and skills in plumbing based on the latest
2011 Uniform Plumbing Code-India (UPC-I). There is no requirement to meet any
minimum qualifications of the delegates.
The syllabus for both the groups is same, however, the power points are different so
as give emphasis on the subjects of their concern.

3. Plumbing Terminology

11. Plumbing Lab at CoEP
Plumbing Lab at COEP is a joint venture of IPA and College of Engineering Pune
(CoEP). It is first of its kind in the world developed specially for promoting plumbing
education. Its a demonstrative lab with working models.
A virtual tour of the lab (through power point presentation and/or a video) will allow
the delegates to learn various plumbing fixtures, fittings, pipe materials, jointing
methods, various plumbing layouts, different types of toilets and their layouts, and

pumping systems.
It will also demonstrate working of one pipe and two pipe systems, vents and traps,
dry wall or a pre-plumb system, siphonic roof drainage, macerating toilets, ceiling
hung piping, sovent system and hydro-pneumatic systems. Lab is a useful tool for the
new entrants as well as the working professionals to upgrade their knowledge with
the state of the art plumbing systems.
Program Conclusion:
At the end of each program the certificate of attendance signed by IAPMO Indias
designated trainer will be given to each delegate.

Syllabus
1. Introduction to Codes and Standards and General Regulations
This topic will provide the student with a better understanding of the development,
roles, and uses of codes and standards in the construction industry.
Source material for this course is Chapter 3 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I
Illustrated Training Manual.
Approvals, AHJ, alternative materials, minimum standards, sewers required,
industrial wastes, workmanship, prohibited fittings and practices, water conservation,
protection of pipes and structures, waterproofing, rat proofing, hangers and supports,
trenching, types of joints.
2. Architectural and Structural Coordination
This topic deals with various architectural and structural provisions to be made during
the planning stage. Few selected cases shall be discussed. Many standard text
books in architecture and engineering by reputed authors are available as source
material. Specific focus on plumbing activities is required.
Local municipal laws relating to plumbing and basic information on fire static water
requirements. Spaces required for various sanitary facilities, plumbing shafts, water
tanks and pump rooms, centralized hot water systems, coordination with the
architects. Structural parameters such as sunken toilets, location of columns and
beams, post-tension slabs, importance of ledge walls.

3. Plumbing Terminology
This topic covers the terminology of the trade. Definitions for most words can be
found in a dictionary, but there are technical or trade terms which take on a special
meaning when used in relation to plumbing. The purpose of this course is to define
those terms for the student.
Source material for this course is Chapter 2 of the UPC-I Code and UPC-I Illustrated
Training Manual. Understanding of plumbing terminology will provide the student with
insight into the development of the art of plumbing. A list of abbreviations associated
with the trade is included in this course.
4. Plumbing Fixtures and Fixture Fittings
This topic will provide the student with a better understanding of code requirements
relating to installed receptacles, devices, or appliances that are supplied with water
or that receive liquid or liquid-borne wastes and discharges such wastes into the
drainage system to which it may be directly or indirectly connected. Source material
for this course is Chapter 4 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training
Manual.
Plumbing fixtures, water conserving fixtures, water closets, bidets, urinals, flushing
devices, lavatories, bath/showers, kitchen sinks, water coolers, drinking fountains,
clothes washers, mop sinks, overflows, strainers, prohibited fixtures, installation
standards, strainers, floor drains, floor slopes, location of valves, hot water
temperature, and table of minimum plumbing facilities.
5. Traps and Interceptors
This topic covers the requirements related to proper installation of traps and
interceptors in residential and industrial settings. Source material for this course is
Chapter 10 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training Manual.
Traps required, trap arms, developed length, trap seals, venting to traps, trap
primers, prohibited traps, building traps, clarifiers, grease interceptors, sizing, FOG
disposal, oil and sand interceptors.
6. Indirect Waste
This topic covers the two forms of discharge available for indirect waste piping
depending on the nature of the contents or systems served by the fixture, appliance
or equipment. Requirements for specific types of installations and the proper
methods to install indirect waste piping are discussed. Source material for this
course is Chapter 8 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training Manual.
Air-gap, food establishments, sink traps, dish washers, drinking fountains, waste
receptors, sterile equipment, appliances, condensers, chemical wastes, point of
discharge, venting.
7. Sanitary Drainage
This topic deals with the design of drainage systems based on a single pipe fully
vented arrangement and the requirements of building sewer systems. This subject
matter discusses the methods and materials to collect, transport and dispose of

waste. Source material for this course is Chapter 7 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I
Illustrated Training Manual. The two pipe fully ventilated system commonly used in
India is also discussed.
Preamble, pipe materials and jointing methods, special joints, fixture connections
(drainage), hydraulic jump, change in direction of flow, T and Y fittings, cleanouts,
pipe grading, fixtures below invert level, suds relief, testing, building sewers, testing,
sumps and pumps, public sewers, sewage disposal. Introduce DFU, sizing of
horizontal and vertical pipes.
8. Vents
This topic covers need of vents and proper placement in the drainage system.
Source material for this course is Chapter 9 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I
Illustrated Training Manual.
Vent requirement, trap seal protection, materials, vent connections, flood rim level,
termination, vent stacks, water curtain and hydraulic jump, horizontal and vertical wet
venting, combination waste and vent system, cleanouts, venting of interceptors.
Introduction to vent sizing, sizing of combination vents etc.
9. Storm Drainage
This topic provides the guidelines to collect/capture the storm water and discharge it
in a safe and efficient manner. Source material for this course is Chapter 11 of the
UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training Manual.
Storm drain required, prohibited connections, subsoil drains, sub-drains,
gutters/channels/scuppers, window areaway drains, roof drains, strainers, leaders,
conductors and connections, siphonic drains, underground drains, materials, traps
required, prohibited installations, testing. Introduction to sizing of channels, rainwater
down takes, underground drains. Introduction to rain water harvesting.
10. Water Supply
This topic will introduce students to the potable and non-potable water supply and
distribution systems. Topics discussed include potable water storage, potable water
piping, and drinking water treatment units. Source material for this course is Chapter
6 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training Manual.
Preamble, sources of water, potable and non-potable water, reclaimed water, water
storage, treatment, hot and cold water distribution system, backflow prevention, air
gap, cross connection control, pipe materials and jointing methods, pressure
controls, unions, thermal expansion, types of valves, installation and testing,
disinfection, protection of underground pipes, colour codes and arrow marking.
Introduce WSFU, sizing calculations.
11. Plumbing Lab at CoEP
Plumbing Lab at COEP is a joint venture of IPA and College of Engineering Pune
(CoEP). It is first of its kind in the world developed specially for promoting plumbing
education. Its a demonstrative lab with working models.
A virtual tour of the lab (through power point presentation and/or a video) will allow
the delegates to learn various plumbing fixtures, fittings, pipe materials, jointing

methods, various plumbing layouts, different types of toilets and their layouts, and
pumping systems.
It will also demonstrate working of one pipe and two pipe systems, vents and traps,
dry wall or a pre-plumb system, siphonic roof drainage, macerating toilets, ceiling
hung piping, sovent system and hydro-pneumatic systems. Lab is a useful tool for the
new entrants as well as the working professionals to upgrade their knowledge with
the state of the art plumbing systems.
12. Solar Hot Water
This topic covers provisions required for a centralized solar hot water system for
multi-apartment buildings with reference to pressure and temperature controls
specified in Chapter 6 of UPC-I Code and ITM. Reference is made to the 2012
Uniform Solar Energy Code-India.
Working out capacity, sizing and spaces required for solar water systems, panels, hot
water tanks, electrical backup, safety measures, auto controls, hot water supply and
return systems, various insulating materials, control valves, introduction to other
methods of hot water generation.
13. Gray-water Systems
This topic will provide the student with an understanding of Gray-water systems and
Reclaimed water systems. The systems introduced in this course provide for a safe
method to use waste water from lavatories, baths, showers and clothes washers for
underground landscape irrigation as well as reclaimed sanitary wastewater (blackwater) to flush fixtures that do not need potable water for their use. Source material
for this course is Chapter 16 of the UPC-I Code and the UPC-I Illustrated Training
Manual.
Definition of gray water, specifications and drawings, estimating gray water
discharge, soil absorption, holding tanks, valves and piping. Reclaimed water
systems, definition of reclaimed water, pipe identification, installation, signs, valves,
cross connection, inspection and testing, approved uses.
14. Pumps and Hydro-Pneumatic Systems
This topic covers various types of pumps for water supply, heat exchangers,
wastewater dewatering and sewage. Pressure boosting and hydro-pneumatic
systems shall be elaborated along with the accessories and controls. Design of
pumps, calculating pump capacities will be studied. Refer Part II of Chapter 6 of
UPC-I and ITM.
15. Construction Management
This topic covers various aspects of managing plumbing installations at site. Many
standard text books by reputed authors are available on the topic of Construction
Management as source material. However, specific focus on plumbing activities is
provided here.
Organization charts, inter-organization relations, coordination of other agencies, role
of Engineer-in-charge, safety and security, working at heights and confined spaces,
accident reporting. Inventory, material ordering and stacking, testing, record keeping,
measurements, and billing. Time and cost analysis, specifications writing, resources
planning, takeoff quantities, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates of few
plumbing items. Break down activities, activity sequence and activity period for few

selected cases.
Program Conclusion:
At the end of each program the certificate of attendance signed by IAPMO Indias
designated trainer will be given to each delegate.

UPC-I Awareness Program
Corse Code: UAP 4
Introduction:
UPC-I Awareness Programs will be conducted jointly by IAPMO Plumbing Codes and
Standards India Private Limited (IAPMO India), and Indian Plumbing Association
(IPA). It will be conducted all across India for large government departments,
consulting firms, construction contractors, developers, builders and various
associations related to building/plumbing industry (referred to as Organizers).
This 4 days UPC-I Awareness Program is a workshop useful for the practicing
plumbers to upgrade their knowledge and skills by attending short term training, while
they continue their earnings. It is also suitable for aspiring plumbers who want to join
the main stream of plumbing.
It is a comprehensive programme designed to provide individuals with the skills to
apply a broad range of plumbing principles. Through this course of study, an
individual will learn how to install, repair and maintain a variety of piping systems,
plumbing fixtures and other equipment generally associated with water distribution
and waste water disposal; and learn the basic principles and code requirements of
typical plumbing systems.
Suitability:
The program is suitable for aspiring plumbers, students who have passed 10th
standard school exam and also for practicing plumbers with a minimum qualification
of 10th standard pass.
The students of this course may be practicing plumbers who are working as
apprentices. The Owners, Managers or Contractors as Employers of these
apprentices could sponsor them for the program which will benefit both the
Employers and Apprentices.
Program Methodology:
This is a 4 days full time program (9.30 am to 5.30 pm) and shall be conducted by
the IAPMO designated faculty in your own training facility. This way the working
hours and cost of your staffs travel can be saved.
On the first day, participants will be introduced to the code, terminology and
important provisions. The next three days will be dedicated to enhancing the skills in
plumbing installations based on 2011 UPC-I. This will be done using the power point
presentations and videos. No hands-on training is possible in such a short duration.

However, attempt shall be made to organize few demonstrations from the
manufacturers.
The program will be conducted in English plus local language. This is an interactive
program. Delegates are encouraged to participate actively, ask questions and
discuss their problems faced. The delegates are encouraged to take notes and draw
sketches during the training.
The last session will have an objective type assessment (open book type, and easy)
and verification of answers thereof by the next delegate.

Introduction to plans, sections, elevations and isometric views. Various types of lines,
dimensions, arrows, legend/symbols in building and plumbing. Identify and share
typical architectural and structural drawings. Reading plumbing drawings, note
structural members, decide location, thickness and height of ledge walls. Exercise in
Lettering and Sketching. Develop ability to draw diagrams of pipe layouts with fittings,
valves and supports.

Plumbing Technology Programme
Course Code: PTP
Course Structure
The Plumbing Technology Programme is a comprehensive programme designed to
provide individuals with the skills to apply a broad range of plumbing principles.
Through this course of study, an individual will learn how to install, repair and
maintain a variety of piping systems, plumbing fixtures and other equipment generally
associated with water distribution and waste water disposal; and learn the basic
principles and code requirements of typical plumbing systems.
The programme is most suitable to the practicing plumbers to upgrade their
knowledge and skills by attending part time training, while they continue their
earnings. It is also suitable for aspiring plumbers who want to join the main stream of
plumbing. The programme can be offered by Vocational training institutes, Industrial
Training Institutes, Polytechnics, In-house training facilities of Developers, Builders
and other Construction Organizations, and NGOs.
Structure: Trained Apprentice Plumber
Trained Apprentice Plumber (TAP) is a course in plumbing technology for aspiring
plumbers, students who have passed 10th standard school exam and also for
practicing plumbers with a minimum qualification of 10th standard pass. This part is
divided in Modules 1 to 4. After successfully completing all modules 1 to 4, students
will receive a certificate: Trained Apprentice Plumber (TAP). This will establish the
competency to install and repair the plumbing systems as per Uniform Plumbing
Code-India (UPC-I) under supervision.
Structure: Trained Master Plumber
Admission to Trained Master Plumber (TMP) course is open to those who possess a
TAP certificate. This part is divided in Modules 5 to 8. After successfully completing
all modules 5 to 8, students will receive a certificate: Trained Master Plumber (TMP).
This will establish the competency to undertake the installation of plumbing systems
as per Uniform Plumbing Code- India (UPC-I).

Examination Scheme per Module
Each module will be accounted as 3 credits (1 credit = 20 hours) of which
approximately 1 credit will be for classroom teaching and 2 credits for workshop
training (1/3 : 2/3 ratio). To be successful, each student has to earn 3 credits per
module and also pass the exam in required grade as follows:

MODULE 5: On-Job Training and Reporting (60 hours)


On-job training and reporting is an important component of the course. It allows the student to seek employment, Adhere to worktiming, Learn team work, Dress code, Communication skills. Besides knowledge and skills, on-job training tests his/her physical
fitness. Student will develop an insight of the plumbing process and understand the responsibility of a plumber towards code based
plumbing installations. Student will develop good habits such as writing daily diary. The tasks student learns will depend upon the
type, size and stage of the project. Ideally, the student should participate in as many activities as possible and permitted.
At the end of the on-job training student will submit a detailed report (in English or local language) giving details of -

period of training,
site, project description
status of work,
owner, contractor and consultant,
organization structure
jobs done,
materials and tools handled,
drawings,
supervision,
duty, authority and responsibility, and
quality, speed and safety at site.

The report should accompany certificate by the Employer. The report will have 200 marks, 100 by Internal Examiner and 100 by the
Employer as External Examiner. Minimum marks to pass are 120.
Indian Plumbing Association will assist the students in availing On-job Training. The task, materials and methods for On-job Training
cannot be standardized as it will depend on the type of job and the stage of construction.
On-job training will be of 3 weeks period (20 hours per week) attracting 3 credits. On job training is provided as Module 5, in order to
gain entry to TMP certificate, and in most likely case, to continue with the same Employer thereafter.

fixtures and fittings and provide internal and external drainage disposal system to the identified disposal point through a gully trap
and chamber, testing and commissioning.
