2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS

Turkey continued its dominance in the global carpet and other textile floor
covering trade. In 2014, Turkey exported 646 thousand tonnes of carpets and
other textile floor coverings totaling 2.3 billion USD, 7% over the previous
year. Its primary trading partner was Saudi Arabia, where it supplied 15.8% of
its total carpet and other textile floor covering exports in value terms,
accounting for 74.2% of Saudi Arabias total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, Turkey was a net exporter of carpets and other textile floor
coverings. Over the period under review, exports consistently exceeded imports
in value terms. The difference in physical terms was even more pronounced.
China and Belgium were among the other main global suppliers of carpets and
other textile floor coverings in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters
from 2007 to 2014 were Egypt (+104.7% per year) and Turkey (+13.8% per
year). By virtue of this, both countries were able to significantly strengthen
their positions in the global export structure.
In 2014, Turkeys top 5 trading partners were Saudi Arabia, the U.S., Iraq,
Germany and Libya, with a combined 46.8% share of Turkeys carpet and other
textile floor covering exports. The share of Saudi Arabia increased significantly
(+6.0 percentage points), while the share of the Russian Federation illustrated
negative dynamics (-2.6 percentage points).
