InnovationsatRISE:
BOARDSUPPLEMENTS:WefirmlybelievethatastudentcanexcelintheboardsandtheIIT
JEEsimultaneously.Allhe/sheneedsfordoingsoisafocusedguidanceandalittlebitofextra
effort.Ourexperiencesuggeststhatmoststudentsprocrastinatetheirboardpreparationsforthe
lastfewmonths.TheydonotrealizethatthetimegapbetweentheboardsandIITJEEisvery
little(around1520days).Duetotheirverylittleornopreparationtheydevotethemselvessolely
fortheboardsduringthemonthsofJANUARY,FEBRUARYandMARCH.Oncetheyaredone
withboardstheynowswitchgearsandstarttheirpreparationfortheJEE.Overtheyears,wehave
seenthisapproachproducingdetrimentalresultsforthechild,eitherbyspoilingtheirranksin
IITJEEandeventheselectioninsomecases.

ThebasicflawunderlyingthisapproachistotreatJEEandboardsastwodifferentexams.
However,wedonotblamethestudentforthis.ThesheerdisregardofthesocalledBOARD
LEVELPROBLEMSbymostoftheteachersandinstitutesinstillsasenseofcomplacencyinthe
child.Theybegintostudythesamecontentwithdifferentobjectivesandviewpointseg,For
Boards,ForIIT,ForAIEEEetc.Thisleadstounnecessaryandunwantedrepetition,
clutteringandaboveallconfusion.Westronglyurgeanystudentwhoisreadingthisnottodoso.
Youneedtorealizethatattheendofthedaytheobjectiveofalltheseexamsistotestyour
knowledgeofPhysics,ChemistryandMathematics.Thesubjectdoesnotchangewiththename
oftheexam,whatchangesisthetestingpattern.

Withtheobjectiveofprovidingaholisticsolutiontothechildrenwehaveconceptualized
BOARDSUPPLEMENTS.BoardsupplementsareanIntegralandcomprehensivepartofour
pedagogy.TheyarethebackbonebehindourideologyofclubbingtheIITJEEandBoards
together.Boardsupplementscanbeinanyform:solvedproblems,readingassignments,
animations,testpapersandevenINTERACTIVECLASSES.Theywouldbestructuredina
scientificmannerwiththeobjectiveofmaximizingastudentsperformanceinboardsinminimum
time.

Ouracademicsareplannedinsuchamannerthatonceaparticulartopicinanysubjectis
completedtheBOARDSUPPLEMENTisprovidedtothestudentssimultaneouslyandateston
theboardpatternisconducted.Thisensuresthattheboardportionistakencareofthenand
thereitselfanditismandatoryforallthestudentsofRISEAcademytoappearinsuchtests.
Pleaseunderstandthatthesetestsareconductedforyourbenefitandforauthenticandgenuine
ranking/gradingtheparticipationmustcomefromallthestudents.

Olympiads:GovernmentbodieslikeHBCSE(HomiBhabhaCentreforScienceEducation)and
IAPT(IndianAssociationofPhysicsTeachers)conductOlympiadsinthesubjectsofMathematics,
Physics,Chemistry.Thereare3stagesoftheseOlympiadsviz.regional,nationaland
international.TheseOlympiadsaremeanttoselectthebrightestofthecandidatesfrompan
INDIAandwinninginoneormoreoftheseOlympiadsattheINTERNATIONALlevelisamatter
ofincrediblefameandsuccess.Itsabiggerandbetterachievementthangettingselectedinthe
IITJEE.ApartfrombringingimmenseselfsatisfactionandpridetheseOlympiadsgoalongway
ingivingadistinctiveedgetoastudentscurriculumvitae.
Keepingthisviewinmindwehavedesignedsegregatedacademiccontenttargetedspecificallyat
themathematics,physicsandchemistryOlympiads.Thiscontentwouldagainbeinasupplement
formandastudentinterestedinaparticularsubjectcansticktoitforhis/herOlympiad
preparation.Classes,asandwhenrequired,fortheOlympiadpreparationwouldbeconducted
fromtimetotime.TheseclasseswouldbeconductedinadditiontothescheduledIITJEEclasses
anditisnotmandatoryforanyofthestudentstoattendthem.Ifastudentdoesnotwantto
preparefortheOlympiadshe/sheneednotattendanyoftheclasses.Ifastudentonlywantsto
prepareforthephysicsOlympiadthenhe/shecanonlyattendtheclassesforsameandsoonand
soforth.
TheuniqueaspectofourOlympiadpreparationisthatunlikeotherinstituteswehaveenough
academicstrengthtooffertrainingforallthethreeOlympiads.Achildmayhavethepotential
toscorewellinallthethreeOlympiads,butduetotheunavailabilityoffacultymemberswhocan
trainthechild,mostinstituteskillastudentsinterestinothersubjectsandjustfocusonthe
subject(s)inwhichtheyhavetheirfacultyavailable.Sinceourfacultymembersarecapableof
trainingforallthethreesubjects,wewillencouragethestudentstotesttheirpotentialinallthe
subjectsandwearehopefulthatwellbeabletotrainastudentwhocouldgetgoldmedalsinall
thethreesubjects.

TechnologicalInnovations:

ConceptbuildingProblemsCBPs(TheimprovedversionoftheDPPs):TheDPPsarethe
onefactorwhichcanbesingledoutbehindKOTAsincrediblesuccessasfarIITJEEresultsare
concerned.ItisasetofProblemsassignedtothestudentwithobjectiveofrevisingallthe
conceptswhichhavebeentaughttilldate.TheDPPsaresupposedtobesolvedwithina

certaintimeframeandareprimarilymeantforselfassessment.However,ourexperience
suggeststhatmostofthestudentspresentlystudyinginKOTAtreatDPPsasaHOMEWORK
whichtheyliketodointheirleisurehourswithnocheckonTIMELIMITandSTRIKERATE
&ACCURACY.TheverypurposeoftheDPPstobeselftrackingtoolsonadailybasisis
beingdefeatedbythisapproachofstudents.Moreover,overtheyearswehaveseenthatno
amountofmotivationhasworkedandthereisnoplausiblemannerinwhicheachandevery
childsDPPcopyismanuallycheckedonaregularbasis.
ToovercomethisproblemwehaveenhancedtheDPPtoensurethatthestudentsactually
ATTEMPTtheproblemsinthespecifiedtimeframe.ThisenhancedversionoftheDPPwould
nowbecalledtheCBPorConceptBuildingProblem.TheCBPswouldbedesignedintheform
ofPowerPointSlidesandthestudentsaresupposedtosolvethemintheclassitself.Theyare
NOTsupposedtowritedownthequestion.Theywillsimplysolvetheproblemandwritedown
itsanswerintheirnotebooks.Toenhancethespeedagivenslidewouldonlyremainforapre
definedperiodoftimeandthenautomaticallythenextquestionwouldcome.Attheendofthe
CBPstheanswerstoalltheproblemswouldbeshownandthespecificquestionsinwhichthe
studentshavedoubtswouldbediscussed.
Thisexercisewouldrestorethepurposeofthedppsandpreparestudentsforthestresslevels,
accuracy,speed,andstrikeratewhichisexpectedfromthemontheJEEDAY.TheHARDCOPIES
(PRINTEDCOPY)oftheCBPswouldbehandedouttothestudentslateronforfuturereference.

Itisascientificallyprovenfactthataudiovisuallearningismuchmoreeffectivethantheusual
classroomblackboardteaching.Itpresentsbothauditoryandvisualstimulustothestudents,
allowingeasiercognitivetaggingandencodingofinformation.Thesamematerialwhen
presentedintheanimatedformismuchmoreentertaininganditincreasestheretentionpowerof
thestudentsmanifold.

studentsattentionforalongerspanoftimebycausingthemtoshiftfromoneformoflearning
