A SPECIAL NEWS BULLETIN FROM GLOBAL MISSIONARY RADIO MINISTRIES

Dear Christian Friends,

John Huk, Jr., son of John K. Huk, who v/rote the article
"Coming Home" went to be with the Lord suddenly on the 10th of
January.

"Vanya," as we called him (a Russian diminutive of

"John") died at home of a heart attack.

Kis last project for GMRM was initiating the purchase of

this property. Your missionaries, and the members of the Board

of Directors, have given the go-ahead to proceed with this

purchase so that GMRM may have a permanent home.
V/e ask your help as we raise the funds necessary for this

home for GMRM, and your prayers for the family of John Jr.
Brother John K. Huk, Sr., has been recovering since his
last hospitalization and thanks all who have prayed for him.

Understandably, both he and his wife, Mary, are experiencing

deep grief over the loss of their son.

As a result of John's death, different ministries of GMRM

have undergone some delays but they continue, as before. We

v/ould request your special prayers for all of us at this time
of adjustment.

P.S. Please note that due to this unexpected development the

telephone number of GMRM has been temporarily changed to

Recognizing that radio is such an

effective tool in bringing the

Gospel message to people living in
these lands, GMRM missionaries have
dedicated their life and talents to
this ministry. As a matter of fact,
one of our Russian programmes,"The Everlasting Gospel" has been
beamed over several powerful short
wave transmitters around the world

for almost 30 years. Our Polish

programme, "Voice of Truth" last

year celebrated its 25th year on

you sent me. The whole family is

reading it. Through your programmes
we came to know this wonderful Lord.

It opened for us the door to eter

ually, But dear brothers, please
help us now to reach others who
also need to know God.

After resigning from my duties as

minister of the Russian congrega

tion, John, his wife Ruth, and

children, Dan, Peter and Debbie,

already living in Pickering, became
involved in the local fellowship of
the Bayfair Baptist Church. As John

became more involved," his heart

directed him to resign from his
position in the commercial world

and take on the new responsibility

strong physically and spiritually.

As a young man he developed his
talents in the area of art and
photography. He held several res

ponsible positions and established

his fine reputation among many

associates.

At the same time, while I was min

istering to a Russian Evangelical
Christian Church in the city of

Toronto, John was involved in many

aspects of our church life. His

deep, "base voice complimented a

men* s quartet and choir for several
years. His strong arras and humble

spirit did not overlook any job

that needed to be done for the Lord.

For nearly thirty years John worked

in downtown Toronto with several

various graphic arts firms, but his

desire was always to use his abil

'Reaching the Slavic World for

efforts.

Furthermore, Vanya was

preparing himself to assist me in

all of our Russian ministry, includ

ing the preparation of Russian
radio programmes.

What a Joy it was to have my son

working with me! Vanya was pleased
with his new work, bringing with
him all his talents and abilities
from his experiences in the commer

cial world. He was truely thrilled

to be involved in this ministry,

and I was more than thrilled to
have him working with us! On a more

personal note, our relationship

grew strong and close in the year
we had together at the mission. Our
opportunities for closeness were
further enhanced because of the

fact that my wife, Mary, and I also

moved to Pickering in the summer of
'86.

All too soon our time of living

close together drew to an abrupt
end. We shared many difficult mo

ments together throughout my own

illness, but this too, served to

VING

draw the bond between us even

closer.

In memory of Mr. David Maksimow

On January 10th, I987, the Lord

welcomed Vanya to his eternal home.

To be absent from the body is to be

present with the Lord. Yes, we have
that blessed assurance that Vanya
now standfS, rejoicing in his new

home, but the depth of grief, while

we yet remain on this earth, is
difficult to bear. His loss is

deeply felt by the mission and by

all members of his family.
One of John* s favourite hymns
included the line, Come Holy

Spirit, revive your Church today.*

Though his funeral was deeply im
pressive and sad, victory was
truely experienced by many people
who went tnrough personal revival
in their own hearts.

Pray with us in these months that

we might be comforted by the Holy

Spirit. Pray with us as we plan to
move the mission to its new facil

ities, of which, Vanya was instru

mental in implementing.
