Carnapping is a form of crime where a motor vehicle that belongs to
a person is being taken without consent or by means of violence. It usually
occurs in busy commercial areas and other public places. According to
National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) auto theft attempts usually
occur within five miles of the victims home. Thieves want the keys readily
available and the car door unlocked for a quick getaway. Carnapping is a
very common crime worldwide.
In fact, Davao City has been having problems with car theft from the
past. Last October 22, 2012 police searched a warehouse believed to be
owned by a suspected car syndicate leader Ryan Baktin Yu
and
confiscated at least 14 stolen cars from the area. Also, last October 3,
2012, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has labeled Manila as the
Philippines car theft capital having 50 car thefts cases last August 2012.
And lately this June 7, 2015, Data from the Directorate for Investigation
and Detective (DIDM) showed there were 295 incidents reported from
January 5 to May 24 this year. Even the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI)
said that every 27 seconds, a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States.
This just proves that carnapping is a worldwide issue.
What could be the solution to lessen these cases? How can we
assure our vehicles security against these thieves? Base d on several
problems that arise the researchers have come up to an idea that might
help a lot in solving this carnapping issues. The researchers proposes to
design a project that will add advance technology to the Ignition system of
the motor vehicle through Biometric Finger Print Scanning and by adding
extra security and monitoring features through GSM technology. Keys are
the most common tool used to trigger the vehicles ignition system and it
serves as the primary security feature. Though keys are unique in every
vehicle unit, it can be easily duplicated and is commonly misplaced which
is not so good. But Biometric system, unlike the keys, is hard to duplicate
since finger prints are unique to each and every one of us. Thus, having
this project will surely make a difference with regards to the security
feature of a motor vehicle. In addition, this project has GSM technology in
order for the owner to know if someone tries to steal or start the vehicle
and with this additional feature, owners can report thieves much faster.
OBJECTIVES:
The primary objective of this project is to provide a better security system.
Also, the project aims to achieve the following:
METHODOLOGY:
Auto-theft issues
Ignition System
using Keys
In this project, we will replace the key of the motor vehicle with a
Biometric finger print scanner which will trigger the ignition system by the
moment the owner scans his/her finger print. In addition, GSM technology will be
added inside the motor vehicle that is responsible for updating the owner
whenever someone attempts to unlock the vehicle.
