Paving the

Halletts
Email - news@themooraboolnews.com.au
By Kate Taylor
Stretches of roads and pavements in Moorabool will
be resurfaced thanks to State Government funding
but there is still no money for on/off ramps at Halletts
Way.
Extensive resurfacing works will be undertaken on
2.5kms of Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road and 2.7kms
of Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road.
Additional pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing
works will take place on Bungaree-Wallace Road and
Bacchus Marsh Road.
Funding will come from the $12.6 million that was
announced for 120 sites in Western Victoria under the
Roads Surface Replacement Program.
The program is designed to reduce the level of
deterioration of road surfaces and support local
primary producers to get their products to the market
or to the factory as well as support local residents as
they travel to work and school, creating smoother and
safer roads for all motorists and helping to preserve
the longevity of the roads.
But there is still no funding from the state government
to construct on/off ramps at Halletts Way as part of
extension works set to be undertaken to help ease
chronic traffic congestion in Bacchus Marsh.
The Halletts Way on/off ramps are not eligible for
funding as part of this program, a spokesperson for
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan told the Moorabool
News.

VicRoads Regional Director Ewen Nevett has issued a warning for these colder days
about the dangers of black ice. Photo - Helen Tatchell
By Jessica Howard
Authorities are urging drivers not to be complacent
about the dangers of black
ice.
VicRoads Regional Director Ewen Nevett said as the
community finds itself in
the middle of another cold
winter, the roads can be extremely hazardous.
The cold weather were
known for in the Central
Highlands means black ice
is a serious problem, one
which can have terrible consequences if drivers dont
use the roads carefully, he
said.
Black ice forms in freezing
conditions when there has
been moisture in the area,
however it is something you
cant necessarily see. People

When it comes to community perception of its performance it seems Moorabool
Shire Council cant get no
satisfaction.
Results from the annual Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey were
strikingly similar to those of
last year despite massive
expenditure, according to
CEO Rob Croxford.
This years survey shows
us theres still room to improve in many areas and
that it takes a long time to
shift the communitys perceptions about council, Mr
Croxford said.
For example, the biggest
spend on local roads in
Moorabools history over the
past five years hasnt shifted
perceptions. This reflects our
challenge to improve our
vast road network relative
to our population during a
period of unprecedented demand on council resources.
The survey, which had
400 Moorabool residents
respond, attributes points
to each category assessing
councils performance and
is commissioned by the state
government although the
state government itself is not
subject to any satisfaction
surveys.
Results showed that the two
key community perception
indicators of overall performance (56) and direction
(53) were identical in the
2015 and 2014 surveys. These
figures were unchanged
despite a slight dip in many
specific services ratings
relative to last years survey.
Decreases in customer service (64) and sealed local
roads (43) - both down four
points, and making community decisions (50) and
advocacy (49) - both down
two points, were partly offset by a three point increase
in Community Consultation
(51).
The survey includes a grid
to plot survey responses for
specified council service areas and aligns them in relation to the respondents view
of their importance and
performance. It identifies
all council service areas surveyed as being partly or fully inside the top right-hand
quadrant. This quadrant is
the most desirable as it indicates the service is both important to the respondents
(horizontal axis) and most
respondents viewed Councils provision of that service
as acceptable (vertical axis).

One of Australias most feral enemies has been spotted
in Ballan.
Native to Asia, the common

has now been declared the

have only increased.
There were two recorded

Reducing
road black
spots
By Kate Taylor
More than $2 million will
be spent on improving
three road black spots in
Moorabool.
Works on the Bacchus
MarshBalliang road and
Glenmore road intersection
at Rowsley will include the
installation of a single-lane
roundabout with signage
and lighting totalling $1.345
million.
Works totalling $419,000
will be done on Lerderderg
Gorge Road from Camerons
Road to Bacchus Marsh-Gisbourne Road at Darley that
will include widening the
pavement, line marking, installation of chevron alignment markers and advance
warning signage for curves,
installation of guard fencing
and construction of a sealed
shoulder.
The Clarendon-Blue Bridge
Road from Courts Road to
Woolshed Road at Clarendon will undergo similar
works, totalling $272,000.
The funding comes as part
of a $39.1 million boost to
the National Black Spot
Program.
An evaluation of the Black
Spot Program has found that
fatal and casualty crashes
are reduced at treated sites
by 30 per cent, equalling one
life per year for every 84 projects. Projects also return almost $7 for every $1 invested
by reducing the number and
cost of crashes.
The three sites were nominated by Moorabool Shire
Council and evaluated by
the Victorian panel which
reviews priorities for the
Robert McLaren with an array of handcrafted, one of a kind ceramic drinking mugs.

do some research into the
impact of industrial wind

I wish to inform Rose of
the fact that I have been

size and capacity of the latest turbines, quoted in the
study as being 1.8Mg output

That will mean single buyers, already one of the largest property buying groups,
will be an increasing proportion of real estate agents

all age groups: young, first
home buyers; buyers in their
middle years, those recently
divorced or ending a property-sharing arrangement;
and elderly buyers. And of
course solo buyers of all ages

just as buyers with partners

In 2010 the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institutes report on Australias
changing patterns of home

The Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club will be making its way to
Flanagans Border Inn after the game against Ballarat (15/08/2015)
for a meal, drinks and to have a listen to our one and only Lozza
with her band fUnKsHuN so ensure you put this in your calendar
and get down there for a great night.
Flanagans Border Inn has a very deep and entrenched history with
the town of Bacchus Marsh where it originally opened its doors in
1850. The Border Inn was essentially the means for the town to
come into existence. In 1851 it became the first coach stop on the
road to the Ballarat gold diggings (and thus the first coach-stop
in the state) and Bacchus Marsh essentially developed around this
traffic.
Flanagans Border Inn has a great Irish atmosphere and menu to
match. You can sit outside to enjoy a drink or dine within, the walls
inside are surrounded with great history and dcor so ensure you
get down for a drink or meal and have a look around.

A very special mention this week goes out to both Lauren and
Bernie for all the work that they have done not only in running the
Netball teams each and every week but also the help and support
they provide in the club house with their assistance behind the
bar and helping with clean-up etc. These 2 ladies have put in an
enormous amount of time over the years and the Bacchus Marsh
Football Netball club would like to recognise your contribution by
saying - THANK YOU.

Round 14 v Dunnstown
13&Under B
Ballan drew Dunnstown.
13&Under
Lara Casey and Maddison
Alcock dominated the defence line and, after a slow
start, were the link between
the defence and attack lines.
Hayley Taylor and Mia McConnell were consistent
throughout the entire game.
Ballan picked up momentum in the second half beating Dunnstown by 17.
15&Under
Was a good game, the girls
moved the ball well out of
defence. However the tall
pressure of Dunnstowns
defenders was extremely
difficult to break. Dunnstown 27 defeated Ballan
11. Best on court - Hannah

17&Under
A disappointing loss this
week against a much better

Ballan 26 lost to Dunnstown
33. Best on Court - Katelyn

The girls started the game
confidently and were up
at every break throughout
the game. Everyone was
encouraging each other,
defence were taking crucial
intercepts and the attacking
end combined well. Unfortunately they couldnt finish the game the way they
began and had a very disappointing result. Mel, Kylie
and Kath combined sensationally providing ample
intercepts in the last quarter.
Bianca and Bec were strong
in the mid court providing
good feeds to the goalers.
Dunnstown 24 defeated
Ballan 20. Best on court - Rebecca Conroy.
