2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS

Despite a drop in exports in 2014, China continued its dominance in the global
desktop PC trade. In 2014, China exported 11.3 million units of desktop PCs
totaling 3.9 billion USD, 7% under the previous year. Its primary trading
partner was the U.S., where it supplied 33.1% of its total desktop PCs exports
in value terms, accounting for 66.4% of the U.S.'s total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of desktop PCs. Over this period,
exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. The difference in
physical terms was even more pronounced.
The U.S. and Mexico were among the other main global suppliers of desktop
PCs in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were
Singapore (+40.1% per year) and Hungary (+20.8% per year).
In 2014, Chinas top 5 trading partners were the U.S., the Netherlands,
Canada, Japan and Mexico, with a combined 71.6% share of Chinas desktop
PCs exports. The share of Canada increased significantly (+10.0 percentage
points),

while

the

share

of

Japan

illustrated

negative

dynamics

(-7.9

percentage points).
