PROTECT CHILDREN’S SKIN

FROM THE SUN
A tan on a child once was the sym-

WISE COUNTY bol that summer had really arrived.

Today, experts know that skin that has
changed color from the sun has been
damaged. Children can be especially
vulnerable to the sun’s harmful rays,
so avoid having them outside between
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. if possible. When-
ever a child is in the sun, use children’s
sunscreen or sun block. Even a dark-
skinned child can get skin damage from
the sun, so apply sunscreen frequently,
regardless of how dark the child’s skin
is. A wide-brimmed hat, an umbrella, or
a sun shield tent will give a child added
protection. Many of today’s bathing suits
offer great sun protection with tee shirts
and longer pant legs.
