As the core members of the TIP Mileage Team will be leaving the group due to On-The-Job
Training and preparation for graduation, the team set out to find the best potentials in
the campus that can join in and help continue the excellence that has been consistently
shown by its members. With this, the TIP Mileage Team launched the recruitment for the
Project Apex. The recruitment process is being held every year, as every year, member/s
need to leave the team to finish their studies and pursue their professional careers in the
industry. The recruitment of new members aim to find new rocks that could be turned
into diamonds that can surpass expectations despite inevitable adversities, combining
each uniqueness of the members to create a multidisciplinary environment to bring out
the best of each member, leading on to bringing out the best of the team at all times. To
ensure that only the best will get in, the TIP Mileage Team had four stages prepared for
the hopefuls, stages 1 to 4.
Stage 1: Examination.
Stage 1 is the beginning of the long journey to be a part of the TIP Mileage Team. The
examination stage was held last June 17 and 18, 2015, at the TIP Career Center and the
Arlegui Seminar Room, respectively, both located at the TIP-Manila, Arlegui Campus. An
applicant will be given the liberty to choose which part of the team he/she would like to
join. Where be it in the Technical Team, which is more focused on building the car, or in
the Non-Technical team, who will be focusing on documentations and communications.
The examination consisted of several questions, with regards to the technical and nontechnical aspects of the team, each with different levels of difficulty. If a student is
interested in joining the team, he/she must present his/herself to the team at the
designated examination area and take the test. The core members of the team shall then
pick whoever gets to be included in the next stage based from their answers.
Stage 2: Initial Interview.
Once an applicant gets chosen for the interview, he/she shall then be duly notified by the
core members of the team and have a scheduled meeting for an interview. The
interview, lasting for more or less than 30 minutes, the interview consists of questions
like those of an interview for an actual job. The interviewers will then analyze the
applicant based on a certain criteria whether he/she would be accepted in to the next
stage.
Stage 3: Training.
As accepted for Stage 3, applicants are expected to bring out their best if they really
want to join the team. Applicants are expected to attend the Initial Orientation, as they
will now be exposed to what the core members have been going through during the
competition. Applicants are to show up at the teams preparation area and contribution
whatever he/she has to offer. In this stage, the one with the most committed
performance will advance to the final stage of the applicant.
Stage 4: Final Interview.
As the Stage 3 passers will then be filtered even more to join the final stage, they should
be prepared for the Final Interview. In this stage, the applicants, or absences who will

pass will be the official members of the TIP Mileage Team. Unlike the previous stages,
this stage will need the help of a professional, none other than the Department Chair of
the Mechanical Engineering Department, Engr. Nicanor Serrano. He will be the one to
interview the remaining applicants, and furthermore, the one to choose whom among
those will be the new official members of the TIP Mileage Team.
Comments/Suggestions:
As a suggestion for the recruitment process for Shell Eco-marathon 2017, I would like to
suggest that applicants undergo a practical exam. This is in order for us to ensure that
each applicant has been exposed to a certain type of skill set. Also, this is to avoid
having members of the team not know what some others have been doing during the
building process. The team would be surrounded with machines and tools for a very long
time while building the concept car, might as well it would be better if all the members
know how to operate these machines for a better team efficiency.
