What is GM Diet

GM diet is a weight loss management plan developed by the General Motors Corporation to
help keep their employees stay in shape. This diet system involves the consumption of
specific foods per day, in contrast to weekly schedules like that of Atkins and South Beach
diets. What started as an in-house program for individuals within the General Motors
Corporation today has become a worldwide phenomenon. The GM diet plan has grown to
be a popular diet plan over time has caught on and today has become very popular with
people looking for a diet plan that works.
The GM diet and its unique diet plan help your to reduce close to 10-17 lbs in 7 days.
Reducing weight is the primary goal, additionally with reduced weight comes the added
benefit of feeling good, looking good all translating to a great experience. Not only does it
improve the mental state and attitude of the person following the diet course, it also help
you to cleanse and detoxify your body. Infact quite a few people follow the diet once every 6
months to cleanse and detoxify primarily rather that weight loss.

Does the GM Diet Work?

While it has been a very popular diet plan over the years, there are still some questions
about the effectiveness of the GM diet. According to recent studies, this diet plan is indeed
effective in reducing excess pounds at a fast rate. While normal weight loss strategies
induce at the most of 1 pound per week lost, the GM diet can help get rid of up to 10 lbs
each week by simply following its food intake regimen.
At the same time however, this diet plan may prove to be overwhelming to first time users,
as it involves radical change of diet intake that consists mainly of raw fruits and vegetables
and reduced meat servings.
The effectiveness of the GM diet should also be supplemented by a regular exercise
routine, as according to nutrition experts, the diet alone would leave the individual tired and
weak. Through routine exercise of up to 10 minutes each day, the bodys metabolism would
be sped up and be able to keep up with the diet requirements. Followers of this diet plan
would also benefit from regular exercise as they get to enjoy normal energy levels and use
the pounds they shed in more productive activities.

How to Prepare for the GM Diet

To those who are planning to follow the GM diet as their weight loss management regimen,
they should be able to withstand excess sweating, occasional feeling of hunger, and
momentary weakness, as these are among the common side effects during the first days of
the diet routine.
One way to prepare for the GM diet is by staying hydrated. That is, regular water intake
should be observed, at 8-10 glasses each day. This is because once the body welcomes
the effects of GM diet it would require extra water for energy and metabolism. Those who
instantly follow the diet system may suffer from incessant muscle pain and weakness,
increased body heat, and malaise, and all of these could only be regulated by adequate
amounts of water in the body.
Avoiding alcohol intake should also be observed when preparing for the GM diet. This is
because alcohol prevents the effects of the diet from taking place, and followers would only
end up stumped with their current weight even after a week of weight loss management.
Alcohol also triggers water retention, which prevents individuals from getting rid of the
excess fluids from their systems.

Weight Loss Objectives and Goals

The primary reason for the development of GM diet is to help middle-aged employees of the
General Motors Corporation to slim down and enjoy better health as they are only a few
years to retirement. Through this diet plan followers were expected to get rid of the
unnecessary pounds they possess, as this triggers various health risks that may interfere
with their work at the company and at the same time prevent them from enjoying retirement.
Those however, who are planning to follow the GM diet plan should have the following
objectives in mind:
Shed off the extra pounds in order to achieve a proportional weight-height body
mass.

Experience a cleaner body system through routine detoxifying effects.

Enjoy a better toned muscle through supplemental exercise.

Prevent the onset of obesity related conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular

disease, and arthritis.
Followers of the GM diet should also observe strict yet at the same time manageable weight
loss goals in order not to experience the diet plans side effects. These include:

Following the diet plan in daily schedules until desired weight is attained.
Using the diet plan in weekly intervals to maintain the achieved weight combined with
proper exercise to avoid bouts of fatigue and other related health risks.

Side Effects of GM Diet

Being a fast-paced diet plan, the GM diet has also become known for its side effects. Like
many other quick weight-loss regimens, followers of the GM diet may experience conditions
such as:
Sudden muscle weakness. This is because the muscle tissues are deprived of adequate
amounts of protein during the first few days of the diet plan. This condition can be regulated
once the system gets used to the nutrients provided by the regimen.
Incessant thirst and dehydration. Persons following the GM diet also feel incessantly thirsty
and even suffer from dehydration as their fluids are used by the body to foster metabolic
processes. Followers are therefore advised to take more water to prevent the onset of
dehydration and experience a more rejuvenated feeling.
Headaches and malaise. Persons who are in their first days of the GM diet may experience
headaches and malaise, as they are still on the process of getting used to the diet effects.
These tend to be psychosomatic, as followers are subject to cravings which have to
withstand in order to achieve their diet goals.
The side effects of GM diet are likewise similar to those of other diet fads, but these can be
effectively managed by

Following the regimen in a sequential and chronological manner. Skipping days and
cheating on the food intake may result not only to the ineffectiveness of the diet, but as
well as getting extra, unwanted pounds.
Supplementing the diet with proper exercise, rest and water intake. By supporting
the body system with regular exercise, water intake and rest, the body would be able to
adjust to the diet settings at a faster manner and avoid routine side effects. It would
also lead to better effects and easier maintenance procedures.

GM Diet Vegetarian
The GM diet is a seven-day plan that involves a sequential consumption of fruits,
vegetables, starch and meat. While it has grown popular as a diet fad, this diet at the same

time has benefited different types of health buffs and diet enthusiasts and not to mention
hardcore vegetarians and vegans.

Vegetarian Version Of the GM Diet

The typical GM Diet requires you to eat meat as part of the diet plan. Obviously this is not
an option for strict vegetarians and vegans. This is why you have a slightly modified version,
one that is completely vegetarian version of the same GM Diet.
The vegetarian version of GM Diet plan is used by vegetarians and vegans not only as a
form of weight loss but as a maintenance method to keep the body slim and proportional. It
is also great way to practice eating vegetables and limited amounts of meat until such time
that the person on the diet finally gets rid of all meat and eggs in his or her system.

GM Diet Vegetarian Preparation

To prepare for the vegetarian GM diet plan it is important not to consume alcohol a few days
before and during the diet schedule. This is because alcohol increases the bodys uric acid
content which in turn leads to water retention and blocks the natural detoxifying processes
from taking place.
Drinking up to 10 glasses of water is recommended for GM diet practitioners. Since they will
not be consuming as much carbohydrates as they normally do, water would serve as their
main source of energy throughout the day. Water also speeds up metabolic processes in
the body and through this the unwanted pounds can be eliminated naturally.
To those who have already been through this diet plan, it is advised to take a 2-3 day break
away before resuming the method. This is to allow the body to fully adjust to its new
nutritional intake system and not get overwhelmed with the sudden change of events.

Schedule for GM Diet Vegetarian

Similar to the typical GM Diet, the vegetarian version of GM diet also requires you to follow
a seven-day schedule

Day 1. Only fruits. Just like in the regular GM diet, only fruits are allowed to be
consumed on the first day. All fruits can be consumed in generous quantities except for
bananas, as they are high in carbohydrates and potassium. Water intake should also
be observed at 10-12 glasses during the whole day.

Day 2. The second day involves potato and vegetables. A cup of baked potato would
serve as the bodys main energy source for the day, and then it can be followed up with
vegetable dishes during lunch and dinner. Vegetable soup is highly powerful during this
day, as it provides all the energy the body would need.

Day 3. Fruit and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables may be served the whole day,
from breakfast to dinner, including midday snacks. Fruit juice can also be taken aside
from water, although no bananas or potatoes are allowed.

Day 4. Bananas and milk. Banana and milk combos may be consumed all day, with
vegetable soup servings during lunch and dinner. Banana and milk may be taken in the
form of shakes, during breakfast and midday snacks.

Day 5. Brown rice and tomatoes. Instead of beef, brown rice is used on Day 5. One
cup of rice is good to last for the day together with tomatoes in order to induce
cleansing.

Day 6. Brown rice and vegetables. On this day mixed vegetables may be consumed
all day, together with one cup of rice.

Day 7. Up to two cups of brown rice may be consumed, together with fruit and
vegetable servings.
By the end of Day 7, you should be feeling much lighter and look more glowing. This is
because the detoxification effects have already taken place and the body has already shed
off at least 2-3 kg or about 10 lbs.

GM Diet Day 1
The GM diet is a seven-day weight loss management plan that consists mainly of selected
fruits and vegetables, and strict amounts of meat. It can be a difficult diet to follow especially
since it relies mainly on foods that are high in fiber and less in protein, fat and
carbohydrates. At the same time however, this diet plan can be used for fast-paced weight
loss regimens, with up to 10 lbs. lost after successfully completing one diet week.

Preparing the Body for GM Diet

On the first day of the GM diet, followers are only allowed to eat fruits. These fresh produce
should contain no form of starch, potassium and carbohydrates, such as bananas. This is
because on the first day of this diet plan, the body is subject to detoxification. Only fruits and
water can be consumed.
Persons who are planning to start the GM diet may consume starchy foods such as
potatoes, oats and bananas the day before their targeted week, so that they would be

packed with enough energy to last for the next morning. They should also practice drinking
lots of water, so that they will not be dehydrated in the succeeding days.
Aside from preparing the body for the diet plan, physical activities should also be set into
rather lighter tasks. Warm-up exercises should be performed before and during the diet, just
to maintain regular metabolic processes and not feel the fatigue. Through exercise, the
body system becomes resilient to the side effects of GM diet, and rather gives way for the
detoxification and weight reduction results.

Day 1 GM Diet Breakfast

The first important meal of the day in a GM diet regimen is breakfast. Followers may
observe a full breakfast consisting mainly of fruits such as melons and papaya together with
1-2 glasses of water. These fruits easily make the stomach full, and at the same time the
sweet tooth satisfied, thus craving for more tempting meals such as pizza and pasta can be
avoided.

Day 1 GM Diet Lunch

Lunch may consist of watery fruits such as apples or watermelons. Lunch time is observed
at 12:00 noon to 1:30 in the afternoon. Consuming a bowl of apples or two cups of
watermelons can already make the stomach full. Other fruits such as kiwi and mangoes can
as well be served.

Day 1 GM Diet Dinner

During dinner, followers may return to melons, kiwi and oranges, as well as 1-2 glasses of
water. Melons can be heavy on the stomach; hence only a half-bowl serving should be
consumed in order not to have a cramped stomach later at night.

Midday Meals and Beverages

While the main beverage allowed for the Day 1 of GM diet is water, followers may also turn
to fresh orange juice and coconut water during midday snacks. Orange juice fills in the
cravings for sweets, while coconut water keeps the stomach full the rest of the day.

Midday meals still consist of fruits, but at varying kinds and servings, so followers can still
maintain a good appetite during full meal times. Raisins, oranges, and apple dices can be
consumed during mid-mornings and afternoons.

Sample GM Diet Day 1 Plan

Breakfast (8:30 AM-9:00 AM)
1 cup of diced apples and 1-2 glasses of water
Mid morning Snack (10:30 AM-11:00 AM)
1 bowl raw papaya and 1-2 glasses of water

GM Diet Day 2
Like the first day of the GM diet weight loss plan, the second day would entail another
adjustment for the individual in terms of food intake. The first day of the diet plan required a
strict fruit-only diet, while the second day would be limited only to vegetables.
All sorts of vegetables may be consumed on the Day 2 of the GM diet, and these range
from green leafy vegetables to starchy crops. This is to boost the fiber intake of the body
while regulating the sugar content from the first days consumption, and at the same time
foster metabolic processes.

Preparing the Body for Day 2

Unlike in Day 1 in which followers would feel a bit lightheaded due to the lack of
carbohydrate intake and continuous consumption of fluids, Day 2 would dwell more on
foods that can be easily digested by the gastrointestinal tract.

To prepare for the second day of the diet week, followers should eat a full dinner consisting
of heavier fruits such as melons, as they will be using supplemental fiber content the next
day. Drinking as much as 10 glasses of water on Day 1 will also bring good effects on Day
2, as followers get to feel more relaxed and at ease with the diet.
Unlike in day one where bananas are restricted from being consumed, in Day 2 all
vegetables can be eaten, including those that are high in starch, such as potatoes. This
routine would also give more energy for the day, and followers would be more capable of
doing more strenuous activities and exercises.

GM Diet Day 2 Breakfast

Day 2 of the GM diet may start off with large baked potato with a pat of butter on top. It is
important to keep the stomach heavy during breakfast as this would keep the body
energized the rest of the day. To those living in tropical countries, cassava or sweet potato
may be used instead of the regular potato, as long as there is no sugar added to the meal.

GM Diet Day 2 Lunch

During lunchtime, foods that can be consumed must be lighter, and these may involve
vegetable salads with lettuce, cucumber and cabbage. Salads may be dressed with
vinaigrette or olive oil, but not mayonnaise.

GM Diet Day 2 Dinner

Dinner on Day 2 may consist of other fresh greens, such as broccoli, asparagus, as well as
cabbages, lettuce and cucumber. Boiled beets also prove to be good meals, but they tend
to be heavier on the stomach.

GM Diet Day 2 Midday Snacks and Beverages

When it comes to snacks and beverages, GM diet experts recommend leafy greens such as
boiled cabbage or fresh lettuce in order to maintain a light stomach. Continuous water
intake should be observed to keep the body hydrated. Cherry tomatoes may also be served
during midday snacks, especially in afternoons as they are able to satisfy ones sweet tooth
cravings.

Sample Diet Plan for Day 2 of GM Diet

Breakfast (8:00-9:00 AM)

1 cup boiled potato and 2 glasses of water

Mid Morning (10:30-11:00 AM)
1 bowl of cabbage or red lettuce (raw) and 1-2 glasses of water
Lunch (12:00-1:00 PM)
1 cucumber, 1 tomato and boiled beet and 2 glasses of water
Afternoon (4:00-5:00 PM)
2 tomatoes or 1 cup cherry tomatoes and 2 glasses of water
Dinner (7:00-8:00 PM)
Boiled broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus with salt and spices and 2 glasses of water

GM Diet Day 3
Day 3, nearly half way through the GM Diet. Things should only get easier now. Day 1 of the
GM Diet and to a certain extent, Day 2 can be really hard for some people. On Day 3 of the
GM diet weight loss plan, followers are now allowed to eat a combination of fruits and
vegetables. There is no limit or restriction to the fruits and vegetables to be consumed on
Day 3, although bananas are still not allowed. Followers of the diet plan may find less
pressure to keep up with the regimens demands, as they have already adjusted their
systems to fruit and vegetable intake during the past two days.
During the first three days of the GM diet, it is important to consume only fresh produce, as
they contain more nutritional value. Organic harvests are also recommended, although
these tend to be more expensive and have lesser taste.

Preparing the Body for Day 3

Preparing for Day 3 isnt as difficult as that in days 1 and 2; it actually easier to keep up with
the dietary requirements in Day 3 as the body is already used to fruit and vegetable intake.
In most cases, individuals following the diet experience slight headaches in the succeeding
days as they are already allowed to consume meat.

It is likewise encouraged to consume a variety of fruits and vegetables in every meal on Day
3. Having a variety of servings during breakfast, lunch and dinner would not only keep the
stomach satiated, but at the same time content as the appetites cravings are regulated at
lower levels.
It is as well recommended to perform breathing exercises in the morning at the start of Day
3. Doing so will release the tensions garnered from Days 1 and 2, and followers may
experience a more relaxed time ahead.
At this stage, followers should have already lost 2-4 lbs. of body mass.

GM Diet Day 3 Breakfast

Breakfast in Day 3 may start light with an apple, but those who are looking for heavier
meals may consume melon. When consuming melons for breakfast, it is important to have
them supplemented with two glasses of water for better digestion.

GM Diet Day 3 Lunch

The diet regimen on Day 2 may be repeated on Day 3, but with more variety. Tomatoes may
be included in lettuce-cucumber salads, but still these should be dressed in olive oil or
vinaigrette.

GM Diet Day 3 Dinner

A serving of boiled vegetables would be ideal during Day 3 dinners, and they can be
followed up with fruit desserts like watermelon apple.

GM Diet Day 3 Midday Snacks and Beverages

A combination of tomatoes, fresh greens, and different fruits may be consumed all day.
Fresh juices such derived from berries, oranges and lemons would be ideal to those who
are not into drinking water, although these should be as well consumed in proportional
amounts to avoid bloating.
Vegetable juice like carrot and tomato juice may be served during evenings so as to satiate
the appetite for sweet snacks.

Sample GM Diet Day 3 Diet Plan

Breakfast (8:00-9:00 AM)
1 apple and 1-2 glasses of water or 1 cup of diced melon and 2 glasses of water

GM Diet Day 4
The fourth day of the GM diet weight loss program is filled with surprises. Unlike the past
three days where you are only allowed to consume fruits and vegetables, Day 4 offers three
unlikely meals: bananas, milk and soup. For our full coverage of the GM Diet plan so far,
read day 1, day 2 and day 3 before you continue with this article.
Day 4 can be quite boring at first glance as these are the only meals allowed for
consumption but remember that by now your body has already adjusted to the big change
in diet and is slowly getting used to the new dietary content.
By Day 4 the body has already garnered sufficient amounts of sweets from fruits, and at the
same time fiber from vegetables. Since it already has a sustained appetite, it would no
longer be responsive to the taste of bananas. Persons who have reached Day 4 would rely
more on liquids, and they get their energy from milk shakes and soup.

Preparing the Body for Day 4

Preparing for Day 4 is the easiest. Since the day offers only the said three meals, followers
might just as well make themselves busy with various physical activities. They already have
packed energy for the day, and they might just as well be productive by working out, or
engaging in different leisure events.
Most people feel different by day 4. By this stage, a livelier attitude towards life is what most
people feel. By Day 4 followers of the diet have already gone through natural detoxifying
processes, and they are found to be more cheerful and enthusiastic when it comes to
performing physical activities.

GM Diet Day 4 Breakfast

The best way to start Day 4 is by consuming a banana paired with a glass of warm milk.
Some followers prefer a bowl of sliced bananas on milk like those in breakfast cereals, only
without the cereal content.
Skim milk should be used all day in this stage; full milk proves to be heavy on the stomach
and filled with unnecessary nutrients that are not beneficial to the weight loss regimen.

GM Diet Day 4 Lunch

Lunch served in Day 4 consists of a bowl of vegetable soup. Most soup bowls consist of
various vegetable produce flavored with herbs and spices. Best vegetable soups that can
be served during lunch include tomato soup and cabbage stew, as they are packed with
natural flavors that the taste buds would savor even as the day ends.

GM Diet Day 4 Dinner

Dinner in Day 4 may consist of a serving of vegetable soup and banana shake. This can be
quite heavy to handle later at night, so followers may forego the shake and focus on the
soup, as this alone can keep them full until the next morning.

GM Diet Day 4 Midday Snacks and Beverages

In Day 4, the only recommended snacks would be bananas and milk, which can be served
in cold banana shakes. These snacks prove to be essential as they taste naturally delightful
and at the same time are a popular drink even in conventional beverages.

GM Diet Day 5
Continuing on with our series on GM Diet. You can find day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4 here. On
the fifth day of the GM diet weight loss routine, followers of the diet are now allowed to eat
beef matched with tomatoes. On this day the bodys protein requirements are addressed,
but not to the extent that they will be followed up with fat. Beef is used in this case as it is
rich source of protein and fiber, and it does not have to be consumed in large amounts just
to fulfill the cravings of ones appetite.

Preparing yourself for Day 5 of GM Diet

When on Day 4 followers of the GM diet are allowed to consume bananas, milk and soup,
on Day 5 they will be subject to only beef and tomatoes. They loss of appetite will continue
to be felt on this day, and it is no longer a surprise for them to eat only sufficient portions of
been and not gore over it like before.
Due to the lack of appetite for most foods, it is important to have just small servings of beef
during meals. Large servings may only make the appetite worse, and this may as well
continue for the next few days. It is thus best to serve the beef with good amounts of
tomatoes so that the taste buds will be brought back to life.

GM Diet Day 5 Breakfast

Breakfast may start with braised beef and soup. This will keep the stomach heavy and full
for most of the day. The soup provides energy, while the meat becomes a source of protein,
iron and fiber. It can be a bit boring to eat beef but it may be paired with a sliced tomato.

GM Diet Day 5 Lunch

A hamburger patty may be consumed during lunch time together with tomatoes. The
hamburger may be baked or fried but not in too much fat, as it already contains its own fat
material. Since the body will be producing extra uric acid, it is likewise recommended to
drink extra glasses of water to flush the urine out naturally.

GM Diet Day 5 Dinner

Another hamburger may be eaten by dinner, although health experts recommend beef soup
and tomatoes so that the body would feel more energized. The soup also supplements the
water lost during the day.

GM Diet Day 5 Midday Snacks and Beverages

During Day 5, the only beverage allowed to be consumed is water, and not juice. It is
because the body has already been given doses of juice for the past three days, and water
helps a lot in flushing out the excesses for Day 5. Drink up to 14 glasses of water on this
day so that the body system will be detoxified and get rid of unnecessary nutrients provided
by the meat.

GM Diet Indian Version

The GM diet is among the most popular diet fads practiced by Indians mainly because of its
vegetarian attributes and reduced consumption of meat. This weight loss management
system also appeals to Indian delicacies that dwell mainly with vegetables. Women in India
find this diet system to be helpful since it allows them to shed off their excess pounds and
enjoy a long term weight profile without undergoing major alterations in their current food
intake.
The Indian version of the GM diet does not vary too much from that of the regular version
except for the beef intake in Days 5 and 6. For the Indian version, cottage cheese can be
used as an alternate to beef. Thus for diet, cottage cheese is served as a substitute to beef
and this works very well. For folks that are not vegetarian and who eat fish, fish can be a
great alternate to meat and can be used in meals and diet plan schedule.

Beef Substitutes
Aside from beef, there are also other foods that rich in iron and protein, such as red kidney
beans or low fat Paneer. Spinach and bean sprouts, as well as soybean curd or tofu and 1
cup brown rice may be used to replace beef in Days 5 and 6.

GM Diet Indian Version

The Indian version of the GM diet is pretty close to the original. There are slight changes
and they are described below.
Day 1. All fruits. All kinds of fruit may be consumed except for bananas. 10-12
glasses of water should be consumed throughout the day.

consumed on Day 3, together with 10-12 glasses of water. Bananas are still not
allowed in this day.

Day 4. Banana and milk. Skim milk and banana, together with the GM wonder soup
or any type of vegetable soup may be served on this day. For Indian practitioners,
yogurt may be served instead of skim milk.

Day 5. Brown rice, curd and tomatoes. Soybean curd or 1 cup of brown rice may be
used as a substitute for beef, or a cup of cottage cheese. Tomatoes are important to
match with the days meal, along with cucumbers.

GM Diet and Alcohol

General Motors Diet background
A special diet to ensure the health and productivity of its employees was developed by
General Motors in 1985 with field research carried out by Johns Hopkins University. General
Motors was then the largest employer in the USA and a plan to maintain the health of its
employees, especially the middle aged ones, and those nearing retirement was deemed
essential.
Speaking in modern parlance, the GM diet can be considered akin to a detox diet. If I have
to point out any criticism or drawback of this diet is the fact that the diet does not
incorporate exercise into the diet program. Now while the effects of the diet can be pretty
rapid, keeping the weight off becomes a challenge for many.

An important feature of the GM diet is absolute abstinence from alcohol while on the diet
and a limiting alcohol intake thereafter. Alcohol adds empty calories to the diet without any
nutritional benefits. In addition, it causes water retention, causing bloating and further
weight gain. Under the misconception that drinking beer after strenuous exercise
recompenses the water loss, several exercise enthusiasts have actually ended up putting
on weight! The GM diet seeks to eliminate these very empty calories from the diet.
To illustrate this better, let us take a look at the number of calories in the most common
forms of consumption of alcohol. The calories contained in various forms of alcohol are as
follows

Beer You are adding 150 calories to your daily calorie intake with one 12 oz beer
and close to 110 calories with a 12 oz lite beer.
Wine You will be adding 90 calories with 5 oz of wine.
Hard Liquor You will be adding close to 100 calories with each drink of 1.5 oz of
hard liquor such as whiskey, vodka, rum or gin.

Preparation is essential before embarking on the GM diet. The water intake is to be stepped
up to at least 8 or 10 glasses a day to maintain adequate hydration during the actual diet.
Alcohol intake is to be curbed to prevent water retention as mentioned above. If adequate
water intake is not maintained, there may be the onset of muscle pains, sweating and
cramps with the onset of the diet.
We have written in extensive detail on the exact diet plan and also included various
variations of the diet such as the vegetarian version and the Indian version of the diet. That
said, for the sake of completeness let us quickly run through the diet. The diet follows a
weekly cycle in the pattern mentioned below

Day 1
All fruits except bananas are to be consumed. A special stress is laid on the intake of
melons. If melon is adequately consumed, there a weight loss of upto 3 lbs has been
recorded. Read more about GM Diet Day 1.

Day 2
This day is devoted to vegetable consumption. Starch intake in the form of baked potatoes
is advised and a quantity of fat in the form of a pat of butter on the potatoes is allowed.
Read more about GM Diet Day 2.

Day 3
All fruits and vegetables are to be consumed in required quantities, with the exception of
bananas and potatoes. Read more about GM Diet Day 3.

Day 4
This day is devoted to consumption of bananas and milk. An intake of eight bananas and
three glasses of milk is recommended, with a special vegetable soup recipe. Due to the
constant intake of complex carbohydrates, the craving for sweet food also reduces by this
time. Read more about GM Diet Day 4.

Day 5
This is called feast day and the consumption of beef and tomatoes is allowed. Water intake
is to be stepped up as the quantity of uric acid produced by the body is increased due to
meat intake. Read more about GM Diet Day 5.

Day 6
Again the intake of beef and vegetables is allowed. Read more about GM Diet Day 6.

Day 7
Brown rice, vegetables and fruits are to be consumed. Read more about GM Diet Day 7.
By the end of the week, a person who follows this diet meticulously, can lose upto 10 17
lbs of weight. There is to be an absolute abstinence from alcoholic and cream based drinks.
This dietary cycle maybe undertaken as many times as the person desires.

A special soup made from tomatoes, cabbage onions, green peppers, celery and water is
advised. This can be consumed in any desired quantity from day 4 onwards. We have
included many soup recipes like the wonder soup, chicken soup and the power soup that
are both delicious and works really well with the General Motors Diet. An occasional intake
of white wine is allowed after the first week. Champagne may be substituted for white wine.
An occasional intake of beer may also be allowed, but only one type of alcohol is allowed at
a time in the maintenance phase. Hard liquor is absolutely forbidden.
It can be concluded that the GM diet maybe an excellent method to kick-start a dietary
regimen, but remember the maintenance of weight loss is quite difficult without
incorporating proper exercise. Always check with your doctor or physician if you can start
the diet program. This is very important since the diet limits certain dietary needs and it is
important to be prudent and to be undertaken with caution.

GM Diet vs South Beach diet

Previously we looked at how the GM Diet stacks up against the Atkins Diet. In this article, let
us look at another popular diet, the South Beach Diet. Americans are believed to spend six
billion dollars annually on diet books, pills and health programs. In a world obsessed with
size zero figures, a diet to lose weight quickly, and to keep it off forever is nothing less than
manna from heaven. Several diets have come and gone over the years, in a world where
obesity, ironically is on the rise. One of the chief contenders for the top slot of a diet
answering every question is the South Beach diet.

Developed by cardiologist, Dr. Agatston, of the Mt. Sinai

Medical Center, in Miami Florida, this diet advocates reduction in carbohydrate intake,

abstinence from alcohol and a reduction in the intake of saturated fats. It is heart friendly
and is to be followed life-long for a healthy heart and an optimum weight.
The South Beach diet consists of three phases

Induction
Re-introduction of carbohydrates
Maintenance

Induction Phase
In the induction phase, the dietary intake of carbohydrates is severely restricted. This is
done to break the vicious cycle of hunger-excess carbs-excess insulin-hunger. The
carbohydrates are further divided into two groups, good and bad depending on their
glycemic value. Low glycemic carbs like oats, legumes and sprouts, which release energy
slowly are allowed in normal amounts. A normal serving is one which satisfies hunger, but
does not allow one to gorge. A two- week phase of eating such servings is believed to
habituate the person to eat only to satisfy hunger. High glycemic index carbohydrates such
as sugars, white flour, and sweet fruits and vegetables like sugar beet and corn are also to
be avoided. Abstinence from alcohol is advised to avoid empty calories. Fats rich in monoand poly- unsaturated fatty acids like canola and olive oil are advised, while saturated fats in
the form of fried food, animal fats and trans fats are to be avoided completely. Proteins are
to be included in normal amounts, mainly in the form of lean meats and fish.

Carbohydrate Phase
In the second phase, carbohydrates like beet, corn and pasta are gradually reintroduced.
They maybe eaten in small or moderate amounts if the person craves them occasionally. It
is thought that the person becomes used to smaller portions by now and does not gorge. In
the last phase, these inculcated changes become a part of the persons life so that he/she
eats healthy always.

Maintenance
The main advantage of the South beach diet is its emphasis on portion size, rather than
counting and weighing the grams of the nutrients involved. It is also advantageous because
it does not leave out any of the major food groups and nourishment does not suffer. It also
does not require any drastic changes in the diet, but merely a gradual shift from unhealthy
eating habits to healthy ones. It is easy to maintain and does not affect the general health of
the individual.

GM Diet
The GM diet in contrast is undertaken in seven day cycles and can cause rapid weight loss.
That said, it must be said that the weight lost during the seven days always tends to come
back if you do not change your eating habits and lifestyle. Many people tend to stop working
on their weight and eating habits once the initial seven days are done with. Pretty soon you
will start seeing all those pounds piling back on. Most people fall into this category. Another
point to keep in mind while on the GM Diet is to watch out for dehydration during the diet.
Also, the General Motors diet is not advised for people suffering from medical conditions
like diabetes.
At the end of the day, it is important to remember that there is no one size fits all as far as
diets are concerned and it is better to personalize each after consulting a dietician. We
at gmdietworks.com always recommend that you talk with your physician and a dietician to
find out if the GM Diet or any weight loss diet plan is appropriate for your before you start.
Each diet requires dedication and back-up in the form of a strict exercise regimen. It is best
to look at a diet program or plan as the start of a long journey towards good health. Finding
the right diet, eating habits and exercise regimen is very important and these healthy habits
should become the habits of a life-time.

GM Diet versus Atkins Diet

In a world waking up to the myriad problems of obesity, the search for the ideal diet seems
never-ending. Several diets have their own ardent followers, and equally vociferous critics.
With more and more people seeking quick methods for lasting weight loss, several diets
have risen to prominence.
In recent times, the Atkins diet has gained popularity, with its concept of dieting the tasty
way. This method of dieting was popularized by Dr.Atkins, and is based on the way the
human body utilizes the major food groups, namely carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
The main source of energy for the body is the carbohydrates, which provide energy for all
the necessary voluntary as well as autonomic functions. The proteins and fats are generally
stored , to be utilized if there is a paucity of carbohydrates due to any reason. In this case,
they are then broken down by a process called ketosis to produce energy. The Atkins diet is
based on the reasoning that if the body is supplied with less carbohydrate than necessary, it
naturally turns to the alternate source of energy, that is fats and proteins. This results in the
mobilization of fats from various stores in the body, resulting in weight loss, especially the
problem areas like the belly, thighs and upper arms.

This diet comprises of four phases

Induction

On-going weight loss

Pre-maintenance

Maintenance
In the induction phase, the intake of carbohydrate is limited to 20 grams of low calorie
vegetables a day, which is increased to 25 grams in the On-going weight loss phase. In the
last two phases, the carbohydrate intake is gradually increased, but only the healthy, fiber
rich and low calorie carbohydrates are permitted. Gradually, the person becomes
accustomed to this and starts avoiding the empty calories of simple sugars. Weight loss of
almost 15 pounds has been reported in the induction phase.

By contrast, the GM diet is a week long, and advocates specific food on specific days, with
a complete abstinence from alcohol and cream based drinks, with the intake of 10-15
glasses of water a day. It can be repeated in cycles as many times as required and does not
have a maintenance phase.
It is difficult to comment on the superiority of one diet over the other, because both diets
advocate quick weight loss, without adequate maintenance. While the GM diet strictly
restricts the calorie intake, while ensuring that all the food groups are represented, it could
lead to rapid weight gain once it is discontinued if you do not supplement your diet later on
with the right dietary habits and exercise. Since there is no specific exercise regimen that is
part of the GM Diet, it can be difficult to keep the pounds from piling back on with a
vengeance if you are not careful. The main drawback with the Atkins diet is its dependance
on proteins and fats which have their own set of complications if incorporated heavily on
the diet. Too much of animal fats is associated with high cholesterol levels, heart disease
and certain cancers. In addition, because of the ketosis, this diet is not advised in patients
with disease of the liver and kidney. Ketosis in itself can be dangerous if there is too much
accumulation of the end products of metabolism.
Therefore, while choosing a diet, it is better to stick to the tried and tested ones. Understand
the limitations of each diet, start with a steady change to your regular food habits and
continue to implement these changes after you are done with the diet plan. The next most
important aspect of following any diet is to ensure that you also follow a regular exercise
regimen. Good luck !!

GM Diet for Non Vegetarians

The common misconception surrounding the General Motors diet is that the GM diet is only
about eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. This puts off a lot of people that love a good non
vegetarian dish in their daily meal routine. Those folks that are predominantly non
vegetarian can find it difficult to follow a diet that is deprived of meat since they are prone to
suffer from anxiety attacks and intense cravings if they go without eating meat for a
prolonged period of time. But, the good news is that the GM Diet is not all about fruits and
vegetables. The GM Diet has a fair sprinkling of meat that can be eaten at various points
during the seven day program. We have some great chicken recipes that work really well.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves, let us take a closer look at our meat options that
work well while on the GM Diet.

Beef
Beef is an essential item on the GM diet grocery list. Beef is eaten on the fifth day of the
diet. This is because beef is rich not only protein but also in fiber. It is also rich in iron and
protein that help in muscle buildup and optimum organ function. However, keep in mind that
beef must be eaten in controlled amounts since it also contains high animal fat. It is thus
best to eat meat during its designated diet day in order not to interfere with the overall
weight loss program.

Chicken
Chicken is a great substitute for beef. Chicken works really well for individual that do not eat
beef. (primarily due to religious and cultural reasons) Chicken is used instead of beef on
Day 5 of the diet. Keep in mind however that chicken must be served lean and free of skin.
Chicken meat can also be used during Day 7 and in small pieces mixed in a vegetable
salad on Day 2.

Fish
For those that prefer fish to any other kind of meat can use it as a substitute for beef or
chicken. Fish is high in protein, niacin and folic acid and it has a natural flavor not found in
other types of meat. It is also ideal when eaten along with the many vegetable dishes since
it does not affect the diet. Keep in mind that fish must be served grilled. Grilling it is a great
choice since it reduces the need of cooking oil and yet keeps its flavors intact even after
grilling.

Dairy

While most people can feel a little deprived with the limited meat choices on the GM diet,
what they cannot complain is the lack of dairy. Dairy products can be eaten while on the
diet. Dairy products such as eggs, milk and yogurt form an essential part of the diet. Eggs
can be consumed during Day 2 and Day 7, while yogurt can be eaten during Day 4 and Day
7. Milk is essential during Day 4 as it is paired with bananas. Milk and yogurt however
should be fat-free so that they do not contribute to the buildup of calories in the system.

Tips for Non-Vegetarians

Following a diet can be strenuous, it deprives individuals of their favorite foods and forces
them to eat meals that they are reluctant to eat. Remember that the success of any diet
does not solely rely on the type of foods or the diet plan itself, a diet can be successful only
with a persons determination to lose weight. Keep this in mind when you plan on starting
the GM diet week. It is best not to think about the absence of meat but of the various
options you have to mix and match different vegetarian and non vegetarian options during
the week.
Lastly, you always have the GM Diet power soup. We have other soup recipes that are
great to eat and work well with your weight loss goals. Meat broth can be mixed together
with vegetables and other spices to make a highly energizing soup. You can eat this soup
during lunch and dinner to your hearts content to keep those hunger pangs and meat
cravings at bay. This is a great way to get all those necessary nutrients into your body while
at the same time feel full and enjoy a tasty meal.

GM Diet After Delivery?

The General Motors diet, also known as GM diet, is a popular weight loss management
program that requires you to eat mainly on fruits, vegetables and liquids. It is a rigid diet that
has to be followed for a period of one week. Because of its stringent rules and actions that
require discipline, this diet tends to provide effective weight loss results after being followed
for only a week.

Pregnancy and GM Diet

The GM diet however can be dangerous

for some people. Among the people who are not advised to follow this diet are pregnant
women. Due to the avoidance of various foods as part of the diet program, pregnant women
will be deprived of the nutrients they need for their babys growth inside their womb. This is
why you must never go on the GM Diet or any diet for that matter when you are pregnant.
GM Diet Post Delivery
A common problem among women who have just given birth is the excess pounds they
have put on during their pregnancy term. Getting rid of these excess pounds and flab is
important so that they can get back to their pre-pregnancy body. Since regular diet and
exercise take time to produce positive effects, is it safe to start the General Motors diet after
immediately childbirth? The answer is no. That said, you can eventually start the GM Diet
but after a certain period of time. Lets take a look at why it is safe and the reasons why it is
unsafe to go on a diet, any diet for that matter, immediately after child birth

Why It is Safe

GM diet is a safe weight loss program mainly because it doesnt rely on chemicals such as
diet pills or drinks in order to lose weight. Rather, it detoxifies the body by ensuring regular
water intake and reduction of foods that contribute to obesity. It is safe as it only promotes
more disciplined eating habits but not at the expense of the individuals overall health.

Why It is Not Safe

GM diet can be dangerous and produce health risks when women who follow it are not yet
done with their breastfeeding period. Women who have just given birth need enough
nutrients to get back their strength and at the same time provide the right vitamins and
minerals to their babies. Babies get their main source of nutrients from breastfeeding.
Hence, lactating mothers should be able to get as much nutrients they can consume from
food in order to provide for their child.

So when is the right time to start GM Diet?

The effectiveness of the GM diet among women who have just given birth lies mainly in the
timing. Below are few tips that you can keep in mind when planning to go on a GM diet.
These tips will help in keeping a healthy post-pregnancy body and at the same time shed off
the excess pounds after giving birth.

Go on a GM diet after you are done with your breastfeeding period. Breastfeeding
period varies among women and is the mothers choice. Some women prefer to
continue breastfeeding until the baby is six months old, while others stop breastfeeding
only after a few weeks.
Ensure you take rest fora good two to three days after a diet week has been
completed. The GM diet can be very tiring as it deprives the individual from the
carbohydrates he or she needs to use as energy. Taking good rest helps get back the
energy lost during the week and prepares the body for another round of diet.
Do some stretching. Stretching exercises help a lot in keeping the muscles relaxed
and full of energy even while on the diet. It also helps tone the muscles while losing
weight. Stretching also reduces the anxiety felt by women after giving birth, thus giving
them a brighter attitude towards losing weight as a whole.

GM Diet Grocery List

We all know about the GM Diet, a popular weight loss program that aims to get rid of
excess pounds within 7 days. The General Motors diet is basically eating a series of

prescribed meals each day of the week.We have covered in diet in extensive detail. Read
the entire diet plan as well as variations of the GM Diet Plan like theIndian and vegetarian
version.
Since you are required to eat only a few types of foods, this diet tends to be cheaper on the
wallet. The success of any diet is in its planning and the GM Diet is no different. Not only is
it important to know the week long diet plan intimately but also the food items that you need
each day must be procured in advance so that you can effectively prepare and execute the
diet. This is why you need a grocery list that will help most of you plan for the diet. We also
have extensive recipes that can make the entire week a pleasant if not satisfying
experience, both for the body and your taste buds.
Lets get down to it then, below is the laundry grocery list of food items that you must stock
up beforehand.

Fruits
Almost all types of fruits can be eaten during the GM diet. Fruits are consumed on the first
day of the week long meal plan. That said, not all fruits are approved for the diet. Among the
fruits to avoid during the first day are bananas and avocados. These fruits contain more fat
and carbohydrate content which can be difficult to digest by our digestive system. They only
build up more pounds rather than burning them.
Bananas must be saved for the fourth day of the diet. On the 4th day, only bananas and
milk can be eaten. Dont go crazy with the bananas since by this time your appetite will be
vastly reduced and you would no longer feel like eating up all the bananas. Try to buy the
bananas slightly raw since you are buying them 4 days in advance. By the time it is the 4th
day, the bananas will be ripe and ready to be eaten.
Fruits that are very sweet should likewise be avoided during a GM diet. Sugar tends to add
up the calories and therefore become a hindrance towards weight loss. Among the ideal
fruits that can be consumed in plenty during the diet include watermelons, berries and citrus
produce.

Vegetables
Green, leafy vegetables are among the recommended items on the GM diet. They are high
in fiber and are easily absorbed by the body during digestion. Vegetables are consumed
during the second, sixth and seventh day of the diet. During the second day, a cup of baked
potato can be consumed for breakfast while tomatoes are to used on the fifth day.

While it is important to be prepared in advance, many people like to buy vegetables fresh. If
you are someone that likes fresh produce, then go ahead and buy it on the day of the diet
but dont give up on your diet just because you could not be bothered to buy vegetables for
the day.

Meat
Meat products that can used while on the GM diet include only beef. Lean chicken can be
used as a substitute for those folks that are averse to eating beef. Infact we have some
great chicken recipes and a great chicken soup recipe. Beef is eaten during the fifth day
and it is matched with tomatoes. Chicken or other form of white meat may be consumed
during day seven.

Beverages
Dairy products such as milk and yogurt cannot be eaten until day 4. Its best to keep them
tucked away in your refrigerator until days four and seven. Milk is paired with bananas,
while yogurt can be consumed together with vegetables on day seven. Fruit juice can be
taken during the day two as long as they are freshly squeezed. It is highly discourage to
drink packaged juices as they are already enriched with preservatives and are no longer
fresh.

Starch
The only form of starch allowed in the GM diet is brown rice. Brown rice is eaten on the
seventh day of the diet together with vegetables and dairy. It is important to eat only brown
rice as it is high in fiber and low in calories. White rice is rather rich in carbohydrates and
will only foster calorie buildup in the body.
There you go, a quick and really easy to remember grocery list. Like we mentioned before,
this diet is really easy to follow and easy on the wallet too. Good luck and happy dieting.

GM Diet and Yoga

Can I do Yoga when Im on the GM Diet?
Yes you can. Yoga is a great way to supplement the GM diet. Many people often wonder
if they can exercise when on the GM Diet. While you can definitely exercise, you must be

careful when it comes to high intensity workouts. This is where yoga scores highly over
other forms of exercise.

Yoga is a relaxing workout regimen that is also an effective weight loss program minus the
sweat and the palpitations. Most of the people that do the GM diet are required to also do
some amount of low-intensity exercises to keep their muscles active. For this reason yoga
is the ideal answer when it comes to keeping your body and mind active.

Yoga as an Exercise Regimen

Yoga is series of poses that are used for various purposes over centuries. More serious
yogis follow such postures to promote meditation and connection of the mind, body and
soul. Modern yoga practitioners meanwhile use the postures for exercise and weight loss.
This is because the postures in yoga stretch and activate the muscles without stressing
them out. Practitioners also get to bend, stride and come up with various poses that
promote balance and flexibility. Most of the poses in yoga seem light and easy to follow, but
they at the same time eat up a lot of energy-making them truly effective for weight loss.

GM Diet and Yoga

Yoga is considered a good partner to GM diet because of its low intensity workouts and high
energy consumption. By following a ten-minute yoga session before and after a day in the
GM diet program. Below are some of the benefits of practicing yoga while on a GM diet:

Helps you relax before starting the diet.

A lot of people feel anxious when going on a diet because they dont believe that they
are going to lose weight. Through yoga, these negative energies are released before
the diet even starts. This way the individual gets to follow the diet regimen properly and
easily until the end of the day and achieve significant results later on.
Releases the stress incurred by the end of the day. Diets can be totally stressful
especially at times when the person craves for his or her favorite foods. Through yoga,
these stressful moments are battled and released by means of breathing and
stretching exercises. Individuals who follow the diet are also able to keep their minds
concentrated in their diet and not feel distracted by their surroundings.
More active muscles. It is normal to feel weak when on a GM diet. The lack of
carbohydrates and proteins keep the muscles weak and unable to move normally.
However, by daily yoga stretching exercises the feeling of weakness is reduced and
the body is enticed to move more during the day.

Sample Yoga Workout

Below is a sample yoga workout that can be practiced everyday during a GM diet. This 5step routine may be practiced at the start and end of the day; it lasts for only 10 minutes
and can be performed at any place desired.

Step 1. Stand with feet together and fold the palms in front of the chest. Close the
eyes and chant the mantra Ohm Mitrayah Namaha while breathing normally.
Step 2. Raise the arms over the head and shoulders with palms touching each other.
Abdomen should be stretched by leaning backwards. Chant Oh Khagaya Namaha
while inhaling, then exhale normally.
Step 3. Bend forward and place the palms at the side of the feet. Touch the knees
with the forehead and exhale deeply. Chant Ohm Suryaya Namaha during the
posture.
Step 4. Take one leg back and position the other leg in front with the palms firm on
the ground. With the head raised, inhale and chat Ohm Bhanuvae Namaha.
Step 5. Return to the position in Step 1. Breathe normally then chant Ohm
Bhaskaraya Namaha.

How Does The GM Diet Work?

The GM diet, also known as the General Motors diet, is a 7-day eating plan that offers
significant weight loss results. Unlike other diets which require intake of supplements that
aid in losing weight, this diet relies mainly on natural produce. The main objectives of the
GM diet are to get rid of the excess pounds and at the same time alter the individuals
eating habits towards a more organic lifestyle.
How does the GM diet work? A lot of people remain to be curious with the diet plans effects.
This is because all it requires is to follow the prescribed foods for each day of the week.
Dieters are not required to undergo exercise or to supplement their diet with nutritious nonfood items. Some experts also find the diet to a mere weight loss fad that doesnt produce
long-term satisfying effects.

Detoxification
In contrast to what many people say, the GM diet is an effective way to start detoxification.
Indeed individuals are deprived of eating fat, unhealthy proteins and carbohydrates during
the first few days of the week. But at the same time their body systems are cleansed and
the toxins that keep them tired, stressed and overweight are flushed away. Followers of the

GM diet are inclined to drink up to 2 liters of water each day, which is sufficient to digest all
the food they have consumed and wash away all the unwanted entities inside their system.
Regular detoxification aids in faster digestion, regular bowel movement and urination, and
eventual weight loss.

Faster Digestion
GM diet fosters digestion in two significant ways. First is through the foods consumed each
day of the diet week. Individuals are subject to consume only high fiber foods such as fruits
and vegetables that are low in sugar. These meals alone already speed up digestion as
they are easily absorbed by the stomach.
Digestion is also sped up with significant water intake. Foods that are rich in fiber still need
water for them to be dissolved into nutrients. With regular water intake, the overall digestion
process is maximized. In turn individuals get to use all the nutrients they have consumed
and at the same time utilize their reserved energies through by means of metabolism.

Regular Bowel Movement

One of the reasons why people tend to be overweight is the unnecessary wastes trapped
inside the body. These include elements that have not been able to be digested and had to
be removed from the system through defecation. Due to the high fiber foods and consistent
water intake in the GM diet, the solid entities in the digestive system are flushed away from
the body in a regular manner. Bowel problems such as constipation and LBM are thus
avoided.
Overall
The above mentioned processes all contribute to faster weight loss effects. Through the GM
diet, individuals not only get to lose weight; they also find the way towards a healthier and
cleaner lifestyle. In time, those who follow the diet also get rid of their poor eating habits and
find ways to enjoy life in a more natural manner.

Can I Exercise While On The GM Diet

Exercising while on GM Diet

The GM Diet can be very stressful and weakening due to the lack of adequate
carbohydrates that serve as the bodys source of energy. A lot of followers of this diet
usually feel lethargic during the first three days of the diet program. Because of this they
either fall out of the diet or just feel sick for the rest of the week. Either way, they wont lead
to significant weight loss results.

It is thus best to implement an exercise regime of workouts during the course of the GM
diet. These exercises do not necessarily have to be high intensity; they are just used to
keep the muscles active and functional. Exercise also boosts up the bodys serotonin levels
which results to a more positive attitude towards the whole weight loss routine.
Below are some of the effective exercise tips that can be put to use when on the GM diet:

Start with breathing. Breathing exercises release the stress incurred during the diet
program. Breathing allows the organs to relax and stay together despite the changes
brought by the weight loss regimen. Taking slow, deep breaths at the start of the day
and before going to sleep may prove to be vital in a GM diet. Practicing breathing
exercises also last for only a few minutes and are not physically strenuous.

Stretch. Breathing exercises can be followed by a few stretching routines. Stretching

is important as the muscles are flexed and used without getting stressed or torn apart.
Stretching improves balance, stamina and endurance. It also prevents the body from
feeling sick or sleepy later during the day.
Take a walk. Those who are starting to get bored at home may supplement their GM
diet with an hour of walking. Walking also helps keep the organs intact and not feel
weak due to the weight loss. The exercise also keeps the mind busy and entertained;
thus the person wont feel the depression brought by the diet. Walking also burns
calories on its own, thus helping get rid of a big chunk of pounds in the body.

Activities to Avoid during a GM Diet

There are also certain exercise activities that should not be performed during a GM diet.
This is because during the diet period the body doesnt have enough energy to sustain such
physical activities. In turn the individual may feel weaker and even fall sick due to fatigue.

Cadio. Running and other high intensity cardio exercises may negatively affect the
persons health while on a GM diet. Running causes the heart to beat faster and
eventually run out of oxygen. Walking may be used as a substitute to running during
this period, or until the person feels better and more inclined to run.
Strength Training. Weightlifting and strength training exercises are also not
recommended and best avoided during the General Motors diet. The muscles are
weaker during this period and they dont have enough sources of energy for workout.
They may only tear the muscles inside. The recovery process of muscles during a GM
diet is slower due to the lack of carbohydrates and starch, thus the person might feel
weaker for a longer period of time.

Los Wght By Lwering Your Crbs

Carbs and Weight Loss
Most diets incorporate a section or a significant portion of the overall diet to cutting back on
carbs. Cutting back on carbs is probably the single most common factor you will find in most
of the popular diets. What this tells us is that tackling your carbs or carbohydrates is the
surest way to achieve your weight loss goals. Reducing your carbs is a good thing because
it means cutting back on sugar and when you cut back on sugar you know you are knocking
off a few pounds right there.

Lower Carbs

Lower Carbs
Let us take a look at some low carb diet tips to help us achieve our weight loss goals.
Remember diet plans like the GM Diet or the HCG Diet differ in the amount of carbs to cut
back but they all suggest reducing the carb intake as part of the plan.
There few things that happen to our body when we go through strict low carb diet. In
some cases, especially in zero carb diet like the Atkins diet (first two weeks) where the
intake is zero or pretty close to zero carbs, our body goes into state of ketosis. Now what
does Ketosis mean? Essentially what happens is our body uses all of the stored fat for
energy. We turn into fat burning machine. Also by reducing or limiting our intake of sugar
the stored fat in our bodies is being used as energy. So with every move we make we are
losing the fat that we have built up over the years.
Once you lose enough weight you can now start eating normally, i.e carbs can be added
back into your diet plan a little at a time. An important tip to know if you are indeed losing
weight or finding out if your body is in the state of Ketosis is to use Ketosis indicator strips.
All you needs are these strip and you can test your urine sample yourself. You can find
these strips at any medical or vitamin store. These ketosis strip come with color code on
the container to easily tell where you are in your carb loss state, I believe the closer you get
to dark purple the better.
There was a time when people considered getting into the state of Ketosis was dangerous.
But over the years, a lot of people have reportedly lost weight and significant amount of
weight with it. This has slowly changed the mindset of people and now it has become
accepted and is more or less mainstream as far as the weight loss industry is concerned. A
lot of diet plans, be it old like the Atkins Diet or new ones like the 4 hour body by Tim Ferris
promote weight loss by limiting carbs.
Plenty of people are amazed at how much weight you can lose by simple watching your
carbs. Of course it goes without saying that it is important to first talk to a certified trainer or

nutritionist before starting any diet. If you have any medical condition then it is always best
to involve your doctor as well. We at GMDietworks.com always recommend talking to all
three before you begin any weight loss regime, be it the GM diet or any other diet.

Tunisian Vegetable Couscous

Being vegetarian and GM Diet.
Going through a vegetarian GM diet can be difficult in the beginning. The most difficult part
of the diet is the food variety. Most food items allowed on the General Motors diet will
consist only of fruits, vegetables and brown rice. Unlike a regular GM diet plan that includes
meat options such as beef mainly with the odd substitution with chicken, the vegetarian diet
plan tends to be more restricted.
A simple tip for those planning a strict vegetarian GM Diet can start prepping their digestive
systems a few weeks before starting the diet. This way your body will react better and you
will be better prepared mentally and physically.
That said, the best way to get used to the vegetarian GM diet is to eat delicious fruit and
vegetable meals. By the means of simple yet scrumptious recipes, going completely
vegetarian becomes not only much easier to handle but at the same time a fulfilling
challenge to win.
With that said, lets take a look at todays recipe.
