TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy of teaching and learning is based upon a mixture of constructivist, social constructivist,
and connectivism approaches with a student-centered pedagogy. When I think of my teaching and
learning philosophy, the quote by Confucius comes to mind, I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I
do and I understand (Confucius, n.d.).
As an online learner myself, I have a unique perspective of online learning that I can relate to students
with. I know what I expect from professors in an online learning environment and I want to be that
expectation for others. My expectation of myself as an instructor is to be someone that provides
constructive and timely feedback, is engaged with the learners, and will offer above all else guidance to
help the learner construct their own knowledge.
Professional development is very important to me. I am a life-long learner and I enjoy learning about
new subjects. I subscribe to Lynda.com to keep my software skills up-to-date and to learn about new
technologies and frequently attend webinars to learn from industry experts.
