ESL CLASS TECHNOLOGY PROJECT

“GOOGLE EARTH and ME”

ESL 9843 – Beginning/Developing


September 3, 2009

LESSON PLANS

I. OBJECTIVES:

A. Students will be able to present themselves – who


they are; where they are from – on a Google tour
B. Students will be able to practice writing sentences
to describe their chosen places of interest on their
Google tour
C. Students will present the Google tour to classmates
D. Students’ Google tours will be placed on an ESL
Blog so that teachers may access their
presentations to better know and understand
students’ backgrounds and countries
E. Students will combine the 3-part presentation:
Photo of self; Bio-poem; Google tour as an oral
presentation evaluation

II. PROCEDURE

A. Take digital picture of each student to be used in


self-presentations.
B. Model the Bio-poem each student will write as a
reflection of themselves, their likes, their fears,
their family, their goals.
C. Vicki Reed assists in the classroom as the
technology teacher with help from ESL
paraprofessionals for the Google Earth project.
Goals and expectations and directions are provided
by Mrs. Goserud.

III. ASSESSMENT / EVALUATION

A. Oral presentation.
B. Google earth presentation.
C. Written Bio-poem
D. Descriptive paragraph with digital photo.
E. Response to test question: What did I learn from
this project?

I. Follow the directions by Miss Reed about


accessing Google Earth

II. Introduce your Google Earth project with a


description about where you are going and
why:

Examples:

I hope you enjoy my country. It is Vietnam. I am


going to show you some highlights about Vietnam.

Please take a few minutes to learn more about where


I lived and what I did in the Dominican Republic and
why I would like you to go visit there.

I love Bosnia! My Google Earth project will show you


the reasons I love Bosnia so much!

III. Identify 10 – 12 sites where you would like to


take a teacher when telling that teacher about
your home country

Examples: Your home; your neighborhood; special


places you go to for fun; your schools; your Church;
the soccer field; beaches; mountains; famous
landmarks; your vacation/family spots; restaurants;
amusement parks; baseball /football fields
IV. Placemark / Label/ Describe your chosen places

V. Write a brief “thank you” to the teacher you


took on your “Google Tour” which explains
what you hoped the teacher would learn about
you from your “Google Earth” presentation
