Appendix II: Verified Microfinance Institutions

This is the fourteenth year that the Microcredit Summit Campaign conducted the verification process in order to confirm
the data reported by our largest members.1 Practitioner MFIs that submitted a 2014 Institutional Action Plan reporting
more than 2,500 poorest clients were asked to provide the Campaign with the names of donor agencies, research
institutions, networks and/or other institutions that could corroborate their data. Verifiers were asked to confirm the
following data points: 1) total number of active clients; 2) percent of total active clients who are female; 3) total number
of active clients who were among the poorest when they receive their first loan; and 4) percent of poorest clients who
are female.
As in past years, the Campaigns greatest challenge is bridging the gap between its commitment to reaching the poorest
and the lack of effective poverty measurement tools. Therefore, every use of the term poorest in these appendices
should be read within the context of this dilemma.2
The data from 70 practitioner MFIs was corroborated by at least one external organization. These 70 institutions
reported reaching 75.6 million poorest clients as of December 31, 2013, or 69% of the total number of poorest clients
reported.
