General Overview

PSS 7000 S.C.B.A

OVERVIEW OF THE UPCOMING SCBA TRAINING

The second quarter multiple company drills will focus on


the roll out of the new Drager PSS 7000 Self Contained
Breathing Apparatus and the new R.I.T packs. The
training will be delivered in three phases.
Phase one will be station level training providing a general overview of the features of
the Drager PSS 7000.
Phase two will include a mask fit test along with delivery of air-packs to the station to
provide AN opportunity for hands on familiarization and training.
Phase three will include in-depth training delivered by the Drager factory
representative and hands on manipulative drills in a Multi-company training format
on the drill ground.

Lung Demand Valve (LDV)


(2nd Stage Regulator)

Donning/off
Button

Make sure that the lung


demand valve is in the off
position by pressing the
black reset button
Also check that the by-pass
button is in the off position

Bypass Button
If the two (2) red dots are
in-line, this is the off
position for the by-pass
button
To activate by-pass, press
the by-pass and rotate
counter-clockwise

2nd Stage Regulator


Grasp the lung demand valve and
insert it into the opening in the
front of the facepiece
Push the lung demand valve into
the facepiece opening until a
click is heard
Pull back on the lung demand
valve to make sure it is secured
properly into the facepiece
Check the operation of the by-pass
valve by pressing the by-pass
button once
You will hear and feel the air
flow from the lung demand
valve

Important:
Ensure the 2nd stage is in place by tugging on regulator

Negative Pressure leak test


Press the donning button/off,
and hold it down for (3)
seconds.
As you take a breath the
facepiece should collapse
against your face.
If the facepiece does not hold
the negative pressure. Adjust
the head straps and perform a
negative pressure leak test
again.
If the facepiece collapses and
stays collapsed to the face for
three (3) second, then you have
a good seal.
Release the button and breath
normally.

Negative pressure test can only be done with the LDV attached and in manually
closed position (donning off button held depressed)

LED Display Timing
Initial display lights on for approximately 24 seconds
off for approximately 36 seconds. Subsequent displays
on for approximately 15 seconds, off for approximately
45 seconds
The 4 main LEDs shows 25% / 50% / 75% and 100%
pressure signals
50% amber will flash 10 times for a total of 20 seconds.
Red light will be a solid light for the same time.
Subsequent displays will be visible approximately 15
seconds and off for approximately 45 seconds
25 % Low air alarm red light will flash constantly
down to 100 psi
Lithium 123 battery powers the HUD receiver
(Thurman will replace annually )
Light intensity is automatic adjusted to suit the
environment (sensor location)
Pressing any button on the sentinel will refresh the
lights

Remove Cylinder
1. Pull the Velcro strap away from the cylinder, the locking cam will release
itself.
2. Hold the cylinder in place.
3. No need to pull on the strap to loosen.
4. Turn off air, bleed air with LDV.
5. Turn the quick connect clockwise 1/8 turn.
6. Push the quick connect back towards the backplate, this will release the
cylinder from the first stage.
7. Pull the used cylinder down and away from the back plate.
DO NOT USE TOOLS ON OR FORCE THE QUICKCONNECT OPEN.
IF IT DOES NOT OPEN EASILY BLEED THE AIR

Replace Cylinder
1. Ensure the end tab (velcro) and Locking cam are open
2. Put the cylinder in place.
3. Push the cylinder into the cylinder quick connect. You will hear a
click acknowledging that the cylinder is connected to the first stage
4. Close locking cam. Velcro can not be stuck before closing the cam. DO
NOT FORCE THE CAM.
5. The locking cam will pick up the slack and firmly hold the cylinder
6. Press the tail end of the cylinder strap onto the velcro.
Important Note
Velcro does not hold the cylinder in place.
The purpose of the Velcro is to hold the cylinder strap tail in position

Buddy Breather
1. Y block located in Pouch on Left hip
2. Y block hose 40 inches
Provides for 80 inches between firefighters when connected
Multiple packs can be daisy chained together

Universal Air Connection (UAC)


1. UAC located on right side
This is the quick fill port to refill bottles from R.I.T pack
The UAC will provide a rapid fill (30sec) and equalize pressure between
the 2 bottles then disconnect

New 9 new RIT packs will be placed into service with the Drager Airpacks.
Packs include
High Pressure bottle (4500psi 60 minute 88 cu.ft.)
Face piece (no voice amp, no HUD)
Rapid fill UAC coupler
MAST
Webbing
Flashlight
Rope

More information and training for the new style RIT packs to be presented
during the Multiple company drills

Summary
This was Phase one of the SCBA Roll out training. It was
designed as a general overview of the new equipment and
features.
Phase two will include a mask fit test along with delivery of airpacks to the station to provide AN opportunity for hands on
familiarization and training.

Phase three will be in depth training delivered by the Drager


factory representative and hands on manipulative drills in a
Multi-company training format on the drill ground.
