Thetopassemblyshallhaveanaluminumalloyterminalconnector.Thetopassemblyshallberobustenoughtoabsorbbulkof
theforcesduringthefusecarrierclosingandopeningoperationsandshallnotoverstressthespringcontact.Itshallalsoprohibit
accidentalopeningofthefusecarrierduetovibrationsorimpact.

FuseBaseBottomAssembly:
Theconductingpartsshallbemadeofhighstrengthhighlyconductivecopperalloyandthecontactportionshallbesilverplated
forcorrosionresistanceandshallprovidealowresistancecurrentpathfromthebottomfusecarriercontactstothebottom
terminalconnector.

FuseCarrierTopAssembly:
Thefusecarriertopcontactshallhaveasolidreplaceablecapmadefromhighlyconductive,anticorrosivecopperalloyandthe
contactportionshallbesilverplatedtoprovidealowresistancecurrentpathfromtheFuseBaseTopContacttotheFuseLink.
Itshallmakeafirmcontactwiththebuttonheadofthefuselinkandshallprovideaprotectiveenclosuretothefuselinktocheck
spreadingofarcduringfaultinterruptions.
Thefusecarriershallbeprovidedwithacastbronzeopeningeye(pullring)suitableforoperationwithahookstickfromthe
groundleveltopulloutorcloseinthefusecarrierbymanualoperation.

FuseCarrierBottomAssembly:
Thefusecarrierbottomassemblyshallbemadeofbronzecastingswithsilverplatingatthecontactpointstoefficientlytransfer
currenttofusebase.
Itshallmakesmoothcontactwiththefusebasebottomassemblyduringclosingoperation.Thebottomassemblyshallhavea
liftingeyeforthehookstickforremovingorreplacingthefusecarrier.

FuseBase(Porcelain):
Thefusebaseshallbeabirdproof,singleunitporcelaininsulatorwithacreepagedistance(toearth)notlessthan320mm.The
topandbottomassembliesasalsothemiddleclampinghardwareshallbeeitherembeddedintheporcelaininsulatorwith
sulphurcementorsuitablyclampedinposition.
Forembeddedcomponents,thepulloutstrengthshouldbesuchastoresultinbreakingoftheporcelainbeforepulloutoccursin
atest.Forporcelaininsulators,thebeamstrengthshallnotbelessthan1000kg.

FuseTube:
Thefusetubeshallbemadeoffiberglasscoatedwithultravioletinhibitorontheoutersurfaceandhavingarcquenchingbone
firelinerinside.
Thetubeshallhavehighburstingstrengthtosustainhighpressureofthegasesduringfaultinterruption.
Theinsidediameterofthefusetubeshallbe17.5mm.Thesolidcapofthefusecarriershallclampthebuttonheadofthefuse
link,closingthetopendofthefuseandallowingonlythedownwardventingduringfaultinterruption.

Thecutoutsshallbeprovidedwithasuitablearrangementformountingtheseon74X40mmor100X50mmchannelcrossarm
insuchawaythatthecenterlineofthebaseisatanangleof15to20degfromtheverticalandshallprovidethenecessary
clearancesfromthesupport.
Mountingarrangementshallbemadeofhighstrengthgalvanizedsteelflatandshallberobustenoughtosustainthevarious
stressesencounteredduringalloperatingconditionsofthecutout.

11KVPORCELAININSULATORS:(IS:731andIS:3188):
Theporcelainshallbesound,freeformdefects,throughverifiedandsmoothlyglazed.Unlessotherwisespecified,theglazeshall
bebrowncolor.
Theglazeshallcoveralltheporcelainpartsofinsulatorsexceptthoseareaswhichserveassupportduringfiringareleft
unglazedforthepurposeofassembly.
Thedesignofinsulatorsshallbesuchthatstressesduetoexpansionandcontractioninanypartoftheinsulatorshallnotleadto
deterioration.
Theporcelainshallnotengagedirectlywithhardmetal.Cementusedinconstructionofinsulatorsshallnotcausefractureby
expansionorlooseningbycontractionandpropercareshallbetakentolocatetheindividualpartscorrectlyduringcementing.
Thecementshallnotgiverisetochemicalreactionwithmetalfittingsanditsthicknessshallbeasuniformaspossible.
Theinsulatorsshouldpreferablybemanufacturedinautomatictemperaturecontrolledkilnstoobtainuniformbakingforbetter
electricalandmechanicalproperties.
BothpinandstraininsulatorsshallconformtoTypeBofIS:731.ThestraininsulatorsshallbeofTongueandClevistype.

dimensionsofPt.Iandconductorsizesspecified.
Elastomerpadforinsulatorshallbeusedwiththetiestoavoidabrasionoftheconductorcomingintodirectcontactwiththe
insulator.

CrossarmstrapconformingtoIS:2486(Pt.II).
Aluminumalloydiecastthimbleclevisforattachingtothetongueofstrain,insulatorononeendandforaccommodatingthe
loopofthehelicallyformeddeadendfittingattheotherendinitssmoothinternalcontour.

TheprovisionsofholesforfixingcrossarmsandotherfixturesshouldconformtotheRECstandardsreferredtoinclause4of
thisspecificationandinaccordancewiththeconstructionpracticesadoptedbytheStateElectricityBoards.

ManufactureforPCCPole::
Allprestressingwiresandreinforcementsshallbeaccuratelyfixedasshowninthedrawingsandmaintainedinpositionduring
manufacture.Theuntensionedreinforcement,asindicatedinthedrawings,shouldbeheldinpositionbytheuseofstirrups
whichshouldgoroundallthewires.
Allwiresshallbeaccuratelystretchedwithuniformprestressineachwire.
Eachwireorgroupofwiresshallbeanchoredpositivelyduringcasting.Careshallbetakentoseethattheanchoragesdonot
yieldbeforetheconcreteattainsthenecessarystrength.

CoverforPCCPole:
Thecoverofconcretemeasuredfromtheoutsideoftheprestressingtendonshallbenormally20mm.

Welding&LappingofSteelforPCCPole:
Thehightensilesteelwireshallbecontinuousovertheentirelengthofthetendon.
Weldingshallnotbeallowedinanycase.However,jointingorcouplingmaybepermittedprovidedthestrengthofthejointor
couplingisnotlessthanthestrengthofeachindividualwire.

CompactingforPCCPole:
Concreteshallbecompactedbyspinning,vibrating,shockingorothersuitablemechanicalmeans.Handcompactionshallnotbe
permitted.

CuringforPCCPole:
Theconcreteshallbecoveredwithalayerofsacking,canvas,hessianorsimilarabsorbentmaterialandkeptconstantlywetupto
thetimewhenthestrengthofconcreteisatleastequaltotheminimumstrengthofconcreteattransferofprestress.Thereafter,
thepolemayberemovedfromthemouldandwateredatintervalstopreventsurfacecrackingoftheunit,theintervalshould
dependontheatmospherichumidityandtemperature.

TheprestressingwiresforPCCPole:
Itshallbedetensionedonlyaftertheconcretehasattainedthespecifiedstrengthattransfer(i.e.210Kg/cm2).Thecubescastfor
thepurposeofdeterminingthestrengthattransfershouldbecured,asfaraspossible,underconditionssimilartothoseunder
whichthepolesarecured.
Thetransferstageshallbedeterminedbasedonthedailytestscarriedoutonconcretecubestillthespecifiedstrengthindicated
aboveisreached.ThereafterthetestonconcreteshallbecarriedoutasdetailedinIS:13431960(Codeofpracticeforpre

stressedconcrete).
Themanufacturershallsupplywhenrequiredbythepurchaserorhisrepresentative,resultofcompressivetestconductedin
accordancewithIS:4561964(Codeofpracticeforplainandreinforcedconcrete)onconcretecubesmadefromtheconcrete
usedforthepoles.
Ifthepurchasersodesires,themanufacturershallsupplycubesfortestpurposesandsuchcubesshallbetestedinaccordance
withIS:4561964(Codeofpracticeforplainandreinforcedconcrete).
Thedetensioningshallbedonebyslowlyreleasingthewires,withoutimpartingshockorsuddenloadtothepoles.Therateof
detensioningmaybecontrolledbyanysuitablemeanseithermechanical(screwtype)orhydraulic.
Thepolesshallnotbedetensionedorreleasedbycuttingtheprestressingwiresusingflamesorbarcropperswhilethewiresare
stillundertension.

SeparateeyehooksorholesforPCCPole:
Itshallbeprovidedforhandlingandtransport,oneeachatadistanceof0.15timestheoveralllength,fromeitherendofthepole.
Eyehooks,ifprovided,shouldbeproperlyanchoredandshouldbeonthefacethathastheshorterdimensionofthecross
section.Holes,ifprovidedforliftingpurposes,shouldbeperpendiculartothebroadfaceofthepole.
Stackingshouldbedoneinsuchamannerthatthebroadsideofthepoleisvertical.Eachtierinthestackshouldbesupportedon
timbersleeperslocatedat0.15timestheoveralllength,measuredfromtheend.Thetimbersupportsinthestackshouldbe
alignedinaverticalline.
Polesshouldbetransportedwiththeirbroadfacesplacedverticallyandinsuchamannerthatshocksareavoided.Supports
shouldbesoarrangedthattheyarelocatedapprox.atadistanceequalto0.15timestheoveralllengthfromtheends.
Theerectionofthepoleshouldbecarriedoutinsuchawaythattheerectionloadsareappliedsoastocausemomentwith
respecttothemajoraxis.i.e.theropeusedforhoistingthepoleshouldbeparalleltothebroaderfaceofthepole.

TestingofPCCPole:
TransverseStrengthTest
PolesmadefromordinaryPortlandcementshallbetestedonlyonthecompletionof28daysandpolesmadefromrapid
hardeningcementonlyonthecompletionof14days,afterthedayofmanufacture.
Thepolemaybetestedineitherhorizontalorverticalposition.Iftestedinhorizontalposition,provisionsshallbemadeto
compensatefortheoverhangingweightofthepole,forthispurposetheoverhangingportionofthepolemaybesupportedona
movabletrolleyorsimilardevice.
Thepoleshallberigidlysupportedatthebuttendforadistanceequaltotheagreeddepthofplantingi.e.1.5M.
Loadshallbeappliedatapoint600mmfromthetopofthepoleandshallbesteadilyandgraduallyincreasedtodesignvalueof
thetransverseloadatfirstcrack.Thedeflectionatthisloadshallbemeasured.
Aprestressedconcretepoleshallbedeemednottohavepassedthetestifvisiblecracksappearatastagepriortotheapplication
ofthedesigntransverseloadforthefirstcrack.
Theloadshallthenbereducedtozeroandincreasedgraduallytoaloadequaltothefirstcrackloadplus10%oftheminimum
ultimatetransverseload,andheldupfor2minutes.
Thisprocedureshallberepeateduntiltheloadreachesthevalueof80percentoftheminimumultimatetransverseloadand
thereafterincreasedby5percentoftheminimumultimatetransverseloaduntilfailureoccurs.Eachtimetheloadisapplied,it
shallbeheldfor2minutes.
TheloadappliedtoprestressedconcretepoleatthepointoffailureshallbemeasuredtothenearestfiveKilograms.
Thepoleshallbedeemednottohavepassedthetestiftheobservedultimatetransverseloadislessthanthedesignultimate
transverseload.

MeasurementofPoleCoverforPCCPole:
Aftercompletionofthetransversestrengthtest,thesamplepoleshallbetakenandcheckedforcover.
Thecoverofthepoleshallbemeasuredat3points,onewithin1.8metersfromthebuttendofthepole,thesecondwithin0.6
meterfromthetopandthethirdatanintermediatepointandthemeanvaluecomparedwiththespecifiedvalue.

Themeanvalueofthemeasuredcovershouldnotdifferbymorethan()1mmfromthespecifiedcover.Theindividualvalues
shouldnotdifferbymorethan()3mmfromspecifiedvalue.
Iftheserequirementsarenotmet,theworkmanshipwithreferencetoaligningoftheendplatesandprestressingwiresand
assemblyofmouldsshouldbeimprovedandinspectionatpreproductionstagetightenedsuitably.

Overheadlines:
ThegeneralprecautionsduringstorageandhandlingofshallbetakeninaccordancewithrelevantIScode.
Whilelayingtheconductorshallbetakenfromtopofthedrumandtherepeatedinthedirectionofarrowonit..Careshallbe
takentoavoidcontactwithsteelworks,fence,etcbygivingsoftwoodprotection,usingwoodenrollers.
Propertoolsshallbeusedduringstringingwork.Duringstringingoperationstandardsagtableorchartshallbefollowedand
careshallbetakentoensurethattherearenokinksintheconductor.Jointsinconductorsshallbestaggered.Midspanjointsin
conductorsshallbeavoided.
Afterstringingtheconductor,itshallbeclampedpermanentlywithshackleorstrainclamps.Anangleorsectionshallbe
selectedwhilepullingupconductors.

Jumpers:
Whilestringing,sufficientlengthshallofconductorsbekeptatshackleterminationsformakingjumpers.Jumpersshallbeneat
andasfaraspossiblesymmetricaltorunofconductors.Theseshallbemadetopreventoccurrenceoffaultsduetowindorbirds.
PGclampsmaybepreferredtobindingofconductorsatjumperlocationorservicetaps.

CrossArms:
ThecrossarmsshallbemadeofMSStructuralsteel.Thelengthofcrossarmsshallbesuitableforaccommodatingthenumberof
insulatorsonthemwithspacingofconductor.Agapofminimum50mmshallbeleftfromthecenterofpinholetoendofcross
armoneitherside.ThecrossarmshallbecompletewithpoleclampmadeofMSflatofsizenotlessthan50x6mmwith
necessarynuts,bolts,washers,etc.Thelengthofcrossarmforcarryingguardwiresshallalwaysrunnotlessthan300mm
beyondoutermostbareconductorofconfiguration.
Crossarmsshallbeproperlyclampedtothesupporttakingintoconsiderationtheorientationoflines.

Porcelaininsulatorsandfittings:
TheporcelaininsulatorsshallbeconfirmingtoIS7311971foroverheadlines.Thisshallbeglazed,crack/burrfree.
Theinsulatorshallhaveadequatemechanicalstrength,highdegreeofresistancetoelectricalpunctureandresistancetoclimatic
andatmosphericattack.

Allironpartsshallbehotdipgalvanized&alljointsshallbeairtight.Pininsulators/shackleinsulators/discinsulatorsshallbe
erectedoncrossarmsandDironclampshallbeusedorasspecifiedbyEngineerincharge.Shackleinsulatorsshallbeusedin
conjunctionwithDironclampswhenconfigurationofconductorisvertical.

Thefoundationshallincludeexcavationinalltypesofsoilandrocksandbackfilling,RCC,reinforcement,formwork.
Excavationforfoundationsforpoles/stay/strut:Afterthelocationofsupports/stayarepeggedaccurately,theexcavation
