INTRODUCTION
1.1

This method statement is developed to cover the Radiographic Testing combination

of Lo-Rad equipment and Computed Radiography Testing (CRT) equipment.

1.2

This method statement is covered by Radiography Testing procedure and Computed

Radiography Testing procedure.

1.3

Objective :
i. To achieve safe distance 3 until 5 meters using Lo-Rad equipment during
exposure time.
ii. Minimize waiting time for RT result. May get RT result in few minutes after
scan the exposed imaging plate into CRT software. No chemical processing
will involve as in conventional film processing.
iii.
Minimize time for finalizing and interpreting RT result especially for critical
and urgent RT joint.
iv. No using of conventional RT film. Replaced with CRT imaging plate that can
re-use many time after previous shoot.

SAFETY
2.1

All radiographers shall be registered with AELB and operated within the allowable
permits.

2.2

All radiographers and assistant mandatory to wear film badge or TLD badge
everytime involve with radiography testing work.

2.3

The perimeter of boundary beyond which no radiation level is in excess of 0.75 mR/hr
(7.5 Sv/hr) shall be cordoned off with yellow rope (where practical) and warning
sign boards and flashing lights shall be placed at strategic locations.

2.4

The radiation level shall be monitored by using a calibrated radiation survey meter.

2.5

Understanding, familiarization and compliance to Care Ion Technologist Sd. Bhd.

radiation safety program which is approved by AELB is mandatory for each
technician involved in radiation exposure.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Weld or surface of object to be inspected shall be as follows:
3.1

Free from scale or weld slag.

3.2

Surface irregularity whenever possible is to be removed or dressed such that the

resulting radiographic image is not masked or confused with the image of any
relevant discontinuity that may be present.

3.3

Temporary tack welds to be ground.

3.4

The finish surface may be flushed with the base material or may be have uniform
crown.

3.5

Methods or preparation shall be such that over heating or loss of material integrity
does not occur.

3.6

Surface shall satisfy the requirements of the applicable materials specifications, with
additional conditioning, if necessary, by any suitable process to a degree that surface
irregularities cannot mask or be confused with discontinuities.

PRIOR TO WORK
5.1

RT equipment setting for RT Lo-Rad combined with CRT is same as preparation for
RT conventional (refer Radiography Testing Procedure).

5.2

For additional, weld or surface to be inspected will wrapped with Lo-Rad Mazel Mats
to achieve the safe distance 3-5 meters. See Figure 1.0.

DURING WORK
6.1

Same as Safety Procedure required by AELB during conventional RT work.

6.2

Refer to Radiographic Testing procedure and Computed Radiographic Testing

procedure..

6.3

Only qualified RT technician allowed to work in barricaded area. Outside barricaded

area is safe for non-radiation worker.

6.4

Once the exposure complete, the imaging plate will sliding onto the CRT scanner to
transfer the image into CRT software. May choose the option either to maintain the
image in imaging plate or erase it for re-use.
