Review
This week in phonics we will start
with a review of what we have done
over the past two weeks with unit 6
the short i. We will review all of the
letter blends that we have had with
this sound. Then, we will move on to
unit 7 of Oxford Phonics World 2
focusing on our last sound for the
term, the short u sound. During this
unit I will introduce the
sounds/blends; u, ug,ud, and up.
We will play a variety of games for
the students to practice their reading,
writing, listening and speaking skills
where they must differentiate this
vowel sound from the others we
have learned thus far. We will also
work through unit 7 in both of our

Activity Time

Activities and Games:

This week are going to focus on prepositions. We will do lots of demonstrations using a fish and a bowl, as is
featured in one of the worksheets for this week. I will place the fish on various positions around the bowl and
ask the students where is the fish? They must answer using a full sentence i.e. The fish is under the bowl.
I will then ask the students to come and place the fish in the correct positions that I call out. We will continue
to practice this exercise and also using classroom objects until the students are comfortable using
prepositions within a full sentence.
This week we are going to play follow the leader game students have to use their bodies and classroom
objects to physically describe prepositions of place.
We are going to play the locations game where students have to find classroom objects as the teacher calls
them out, e.g. Touch a bag on a chair.
Worksheets:
This week I will give each student a handout that features propositions along with a picture for each
preposition. We will sit in circle and use this handout to do a lot of pointing and repeating until they are
comfortable. We will then do the second part of the worksheet which has questions such as filling in the
missing words, reading practice and spelling.
We will also do a worksheet that involves drawing pictures of objects in response to prepositions that are
called out.
Songs and videos:
This week we are going to watch a video about prepositions that has plenty of opportunities for me to ask the
class questions. It is a good video that includes all of the prepositions as well as using various personal
pronouns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_lccM0SbfI
We are also going to listen to a prepositions song which is a fun way to learn and to remember about
prepositions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx8i-Wq_jtc
