CHAPTER 5 SUMMARY

Erikson's stages of psychosocial development, as articulated by Erik

Erikson, is a psychoanalytic theory which identifies eight stages through which
a healthily developing human should pass from infancy to late adulthood.
Social cognitive theory is the view that people learn by watching others. In
psychology, it explains personality in terms of how a person thinks about and
responds to one's social environment.
Emotional intelligence is a type of social intelligence that affords the
individual the ability to monitor his own and others emotions, to discriminate
among them, and to use the information to guide his thinking and actions. Selfawareness is the ability to recognize a feeling as it happens is the keystone of
emotional intelligence. Mood management is the ability to change mood from
good to bad and vice versa. Self-motivation is trying to feel more enthusiastic
and developing more zeal and confidence to arrive at concrete achievement.
Impulse Control is the essence of emotional self-regulation is the ability to
delay impulse in the service of a goal. A people skill is the ability to feel for
another person, whether in job, in romance, and friendship and in the family.
Socialization is the process by which parents and others set the childs
standards of behavior, attitudes, skills and motives to conform closely to what
the society deems appropriate to his role in society. Identity Achievement:
After a process of active exploration, adolescents have made a strong
commitment to a highly-developed set of beliefs and values. Identity
achievement is characterized by high commitment and high exploration.
Identity Diffusion: Adolescents have not yet attempted to find their identity,
nor do they have a clear picture of what their identity may be. Identity
Foreclosure: Adolescents have blindly accepted and committed to values and
beliefs taught to them by their family, community or significant others without
exploring alternatives.
Identity Moratorium: Adolescents are actively
experiencing a crisis which has led them to explore their identity and values.
Gender based beliefs are ideas and expectations about what is appropriate
behavior for males and females. Gender stereotypes are beliefs and
characteristics typified in the behavior of males and females and which are
deemed appropriate and therefore acceptable. Gender roles are the
composites of behaviors typical of the male and female in a given culture.
Gender identity is the perception of oneself as either masculine or feminine.
Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child aside from the biological
relationship. Authoritative parenting is a style of parenting that stresses selfreliance and independence. Authoritarian parenting is a style of parenting
that stresses obedience, respect for authority, and traditional values.
Indulgent parenting is a style of parenting characterized by show of
affection, love, warmth, and nurturance but with little supervision. Neglectful
parenting is a style of parenting characterized by little warmth, nurturing and
supervision. Role model is a person looked to by others as an example to be
imitated.

When I read the topics that been discuss in this chapter, I thought that this
course would be serious challenge for me. Because as we know that it is easier

to understand how important physical growth and development is for kids but
what about the social and emotional development.
So its challenging for me because it will depend to me on how Ill teach
and guide them which means as result for their learning is depend upon to me.
Social and emotional development is very important. So, we must be a
good model to the children because what we do they will do it too because they
thought that everything we do are right.
In emotional aspect, we must show to them that we love them and give
them a time to know what they want and find their interest. In children, we
must be a good parents and dont punish a child by giving them a bruised and
it might be affect their emotion and the way they think.
Making friends and socializing with other people will help them to know or
to find their selves. And also, we know that some children shy. So, by socializing
helps those to enhance their personality and avoid their being shy in front of
others.
Like me, Im little bit shy to my other classmate but Im trying my best to
socialize or interaction with other people.
- positive

As we know that all topics that been discuss in this chapter are very
important to us. But there still disadvantage.
In parenting, this would be hard part as a parent because this so important.
But as we know, some parents are doing cruelty to their children when they
caught their children doing something they dont want to, they will punish their
children by punching, etc.

Parents without love to their children are unworthy to be parents. They

ignore and dont give any attention to their children, and it might cause or
affects the emotion of the child and affect their learning.
Children that been abuse by their parents and relatives are shy to interactive
with other people. Because of what happen to their lives, they shy to show their
self to other people.
A child with family problems are not thinking well to their lesson that been
discussed.
Social and emotional development of child will affect when they been ignore
and dont feel the love form their parents. And when their parent is
overprotected to them.
