Academic Session 2: Ill Just Do It Later Awesome or OK: Handling Homework and
Organizing Your Time like a Pro
Where: Library Media Viewing Room (Rm 006 in lower-level of the library)
When: Tuesday, August 11, from 2:30-3:00pm
What to bring: Pencils/pens and a notebook (10.5 inches X 8 inches/26.7 centimeters X 20.3
centimeters)
Designated groups (sit with your group members when you enter the room):
Group 1: Jiechen, Chetali, Min Vu, Jie Yang
Group 2: J.R., Daniel, Yaya, Ganlin
Group 3: Jevic, Jie Ren, Wejdan
Activity Instructions:
1. (5 minutes) On a page of your notebook, write downas quickly as possible
everything you can remember from Module #2 of the summer program. So, you must
write as much as possible about college course syllabuses, time management as a
student, and interactions with professors. Do not worry about grammar, handwriting, or
other technical features of Standard English when completing your writing for this short
assignment.
2. (5 minutes) In your group, discuss what you have written and then choose two or three
important concepts, ideas, strategies, or questions to write on the whiteboard, using the
marker I give to your group.
3. (5 minutes) Read everything that the groups write on the whiteboard, and discuss the
material with your own group. What did you forget from Module #2? What do you think
are strong habits to maintain as a student? Why?
4. (10 minutes) Once we finish our short discussion, open to a new page of your notebook.
Take notes about what Greg Strouse, Coordinator of the Learning Skills Program, shares
with you about handling homework and organizing your time.
5. (5 minutes) On the slips of paper I give you, write down one question you have about
this academic session. Any question will work wellas long as it relates directly to our
subject.
Homework:

Choose one of the course syllabuses provided in Module #2 to re-read in close

detail. On your blog, write a paragraph that either A) explains the strengths of
your chosen syllabus or B) explains what you find difficult to understand in the
syllabus. Then, write a second paragraph in which you explain how you might
use the syllabus as a student in that specific course or how you might get some
