6. Is Music Theory already being taught by the applied music instructor?

Will it just be a repetition and added burden for students?

Answer: Yes, but in Music Theory the students will become more familiar with
music vocabulary words and of what they are playing. An example is that the
students will be able to demonstrate confidence and firm understanding of major
and minor scales and chords as they play them.

7. Why Music Theory is being recommended by the academy?

Answer: Music theory training starts with learning the vocabulary and language
of music. Each element can be understood as written in music notation, on the
instrument, and when heard in sound. These three ways of knowing and
understanding are not easily connected because the paths of learning differ for
each. The combination of music theory lessons with instrument study and ear
training tend to make the most progress and creates BALANCE for musicians
because these skills reinforce one another.
