SHINKEN GATA
HISTORY OF SHINKEN GATA
KOTSU
When studying the techniques from the Shinken gata, do not think of these
techniques as if they come from any particular school. Even though many of
them come from the Kukishinden Ryu, and the Chosui Ryu Dakentaijutsu,
they are no longer part of these Ryu-ha. They are Shinken Gata.
When you start to do the Shinken Gata, remember that it is Shinken Gata,
and nothing else. Once you start to think of schools you will no longer
understand Shinken gata.
Always study Shinken Gata as though your life depends on it. Then Then you
may start to understand the Shinken Gata.
Some say that you must use the feeling of the Gyokko Ryu when doing the
techniques.
The Shinken gata was created possibly by Ohkuni Onihei from the Kukishin
Ryu, and the Chosui Ryu. He was Soke of Hon Tai Takagi Yoshin Ryu, and
formulated the Hon Tai Kukishin Ryu Bojutsu, which later became the
Kukishinden Ryu.
It was described by Takamatsu as being the closest you will come to real
fighting during training.
